If you were to ask 100 people in my school whether or not the cared about politics, 1 maybe 2 would answer yes. To me this is shocking. Because politics is the future for america and the world and yet they don't give a hoot. And maybe once one of my teachers said anything about politics this whole year. The rest of the time when they're talking about current events, they're talking about American Idol. I say that we have to teach what needs to be taught. And let students make their own decisions on they're political party instead of their parents telling them what to think. That's all.

I think kids are stupid. Michael Savage would say the liberals in the education department are dumbing our kids down so they'll be reliant upon the government when they go out to work and a byproduct would be kid's apathy toward politics. I tend to think Michael Savage is entertaining

Going off your age, gonna assume your in highschool. Honestly, when I was in highschool, I could care less about taxes, who was gonna be president, war in Iraq etc. Simply because:
A. I had no influence over it (Voting)
B. Didn't affect me directly (Taxes)
C. Coudn't affect me indirectly either (Draft)
It's not that those kids don't care, just they don't have a reason to care. Only when something hits home does really catch under 18 years old children. For instance, I bet, if the school were to implant a new rule or something like a dress policy, then they would actually try to particpate. I remember when board of education was talking about a new calendar for the kids to return earlier than usual, and all of us all of sudden became politicians rallying to not have it.
It's the school system job to just provide the information to the children, such as current events,and/or politics, but whether or not they are going to care or even listen for that matter, it's pretty much on the child. Thats why, sometimes can't blam the school system for everything. Some teachers try his or her hardests to prepare the student, but still, when it comes down to it, the child has to be the one to listen and implement. I'm not talking about the kids who have learning disabilities, I'm referring to kids who pretty much school was onthe bottom of lists and the new madden was at the top. Of course, some of this carries over to the parents as well. Just too many factors to explain why.
LOL. Kinda funny, I remember sitting on my business law class in highschool and she was talking about this and that on how the goverment runs, and all I was thinknig about was what I'm gonna do when I got home or talking to my friends about the new 64 game (yes, 64 was the shit back then along with playstation, there was no xbox available in mid 90's)
So I guess in call, age groups have different interpretatnios of what is current events. For instance
My thoughts of current events at this age:
10: What time batman comes on
15: When does that new game come out
18: (finaly start to get into politics, some) Damn, this gas is expensive as hell
22: Worried about the draft and how the goverment keeps forcing schools to go up on tuition

actually my old HS had a politics course (voluntary), along with Russian & Chinese class... but everytime i walked by that class room i only saw like 4-6 kids at the time, even in my senior year there would only be a max of 10.

Allow taxpayers to take the per student funding that the government gives to public schools to any school of their choice and open up education to the same competition found in a free market and maybe we can get some decent schools to interest students. Otherwise, I guess you can just suffer your way through another six years of lunch time Pokemon tournaments and peer editing the worst drivel you can imagine. Like papers that start with "Ask 100 people and they'll all say..."

Wait, your profile says you're sixteen. I'm in seventh grade and I'm thirteen. So I'm not agreeing with you because you're stupid, in that you were either held back a few years, or that you lie about your age.

That's basically the mindset of most kids these days. Pretty much ALL of the kids at my school would rather sit around making unfunny drug references than discuss things that are actually relevant and important to the world.
Me - Hey guys. Did you hear about the killings in Iraq?
Them - Guns are cool. I want to shoot somebodies head off so it explodes!
Me - But, there are innocent people dying; we need to deal with-
Them - Lets go get high.

Really? What about school funding, drinking ages, smoking ages, legalization of drugs, and universal healthcare?

As AAraven said - politics effects everyone. Its how countries and states are ran. I think its good that you(topic starter starter) are taking an interest in politics at an earlier age than most would. You'll know what you want and who best represents what you stand for, go forth and kick ass.

most kids dont care anymore maybe decades ago they did but now theres to much distractions and some of the teachers only teach what its required to be taught and dont make any attempts to teach them about other things that matter now, not 100 years ago. i mean sure we need to know about things that happened in the past to learn from them but he need to know more about current things and know whats going on to at least try to understand whats happening.
