why should we have to pay outrageous prices for food that costs less than half of what it costs at the movie theaters? they said that they will convict people who bring thier own food, and do you know what thats called? extortion.
we should have the right to eat what we legally bought wherever we want and not be considered as convicts.

Actually, you have to have a little bit of sympathy for the theatre owners and the people that work there, because that overpriced food IS their income. They get little if any cut at all on the sale of movie tickets, so they have to jack up the prices on basic snack foods in order to compensate and cover their expenses.
The theatre owners are the ones getting the raw deal here, not movie goers.

If you don't like it, just sneak snacks and drinks, I always do it. I'm not going to pay fucking 8 bucks for a cola and 10 bucks for popcorn.... I would rather buy some shit in the grocery store, put it in my pockets/sleeves, and there you go, you just saved yourself tons of cash.

Just don't eat at the theaters... popcorn alone is like 800 too 1200 calories in one sitting. That's why I don't eat there anymore. Price is too high, and besides... it makes me fat(ter.)
Partial reason why the food costs a lot: movie hoppers...
Pay the price of a ticket. Watch one movie free... skip to another one without payingg.
And then there's people who come from the backdoor and don't pay at all.
Nothing's free... and the people who pay for their consequences are the people who are going to purchase food.

I suggest not going to the movies at all. It's a waste of your hard earned money, and it's the worst kind of date you could have with a chick. Not to mention most hollywood movies suck ass...

I don't know about you all but I am lucky enough to have a drive in to go too. $15 bucks a person for 3 new movies is dirt cheap. For this reason I don't mind the concession stand prices and if I did there is a $5 dolor permit I can but to bring in as much food as I want. We need more drive ins is what I am saying.

If you go to a theatre to watch a first time presented movie (the ones the DVD isn't out in stores yet).
The Theatre pays 100% of the box office to the company that owns the rights to the movie.
BUT only for the first part of the run. it is a sliding scale, that as the movie stays longer in the same theatre, the amount of money paid to the owners decreases (but not too much)
THe money needed to keep the theatres operating comes from the concession stands.
That is why for many years you couldn't buy 'chips & cheesies' in a theatre only popcorn, it costs more for the box than it does for the contents of a popcorn serving. The mark up on 'chips' is too small.
Unless it is playing on an IMAX theatre I perfer to wait for the DVD & watch it at home, no crowds, my own food & beer, much more convient.
I agree with the poster about the drive ins, we don't have any around here any more.

i agree completely, and i do, but frankly, at my theater, they started screening in bags and coats, so im kinda screwd on that option
and to the post about "private property", arent houses private property? we cant force people to only eat our food.
and to the post about the sympathy for the workers, heres an idea, they get payed by the hour, and if you should be sympathetic, its the rich theater owners who take the money and are losing it in snack profits.

Theatres are paying out the butt to play the movies, and they make little money off of the movies themselves.
So in order to stay in business, they have to raise the prices of food. It is not extortion, it is not greed, it is survival.

Umm..actually, you can. If you tell someone not to do something when they enter your property, yet insist on doing it after you warn them not to, then they're trespassing.
Theater food is no different than any other good. If you're not willing to pay the price for it, then don't buy any.
Besides, the average movie is only about 2 hours. If you can't sit through one without eating, then you have some sort of metabolic problem.
So often times it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we had the key...

OR, if your patient enough, you can wait 'till it comes on on TV or DVD and just eat your regularly priced food at home.
