I was in history today and we were doing this easy trivia game for canadian history or something but whoever stood up first got to answer..Anyways, my history teacher started saying the question.she rymed off the four members of the Classic Rock Band Rush. and three of my friends and I stood up quickly to say who the band was..we noticed everyone else in the whole class had NO clue what was going on or what the answer was. there sitting there going "who, whos geddie lu? or is it lee?"...lol... But my teacher was like "really?"..
Goes to show that Rock is hiding but not afraid to show it. There are us out there! we are like a light that keeps the world going...so..feel free to comment and RockOn..
Ps-my fav band is Led Zeppelin and Sabbath..
I'm not surprised that young people don't know about Rush. They're not really part of their demographic. Which is what music is all about these days. If it won't make money for the record companies, it won't get made. You won't see awesomely talented bands like Zeppelin or Rush anymore as they're not aesthetically pleasing, despite being musically superior. Bands like that are often relegated to obscurity, which is sad.

Bacon vodka? It's more likely than you'd think!
It's not gone, it's just shit today.
OLD rock, the good stuff n whatnot, that's gone.
If the question was about one of today's "rock" bands I'm sure everyone in the class would recognize the names. I'm with you though, I love classic rock and the good OLD stuff but I can't stand most of todays bands. It's just not the same, who knows if it will ever be again.

Well put.
I'm tired of seeing the same band with the same songs, just with different names.
I can't stand most of today's "mainstream, popular" bands
They try to hard.
Just play some damn music.

Most of it is but not all of it. I personally have a lot faith in Wolfmother to carry the torch.

Try listening to Priestess.
Probably the best new rock band to come out in a very long time.

Very true, very true. First time I heard them I was like "Zeppelin"?
I just exaggerating to make a point, but it's quite true that it's not ALL bad.
Good point.

Tom Petty is one of the gretest solo rockers ever.
Oh, I thought this thread was going to be about the great one.

Shit. me too
It isn't totally gone, it's just evolved in many directions, and devolved in one major one. Unfortunately, it's the devolved path that kids like these days, and thus, the one that's in the spotlight the most. Blech :(
Luckily, the advent of the Intrawebs at least makes it possible for more unsung (literally) bands to get a bit of the spotlight.
