I argued with myself a bit about posting this as a thread because of csa-boy's, and while I did post this as a reply I honestly think that a good number of you need to hear this, because you speak of something you don't really know much about.
The confederate flag is NOT a racist symbol. Taken from my post in csa's thread. You know, there really isn't much out there that gets me really pissed off, but US citizens lack of knowledge about possibly the most important event in their country's history is one of those things. So please take the time to read this.
The Confederate flag is not the only one that looks like that. If I remember correctly (and I may not) that design is known as St. Andrew's Cross. Any other flag with such a design isn't viewed as racist. Why? Because the country that uses the flag isn't primarily known for the support of slavery.
Also, this flag, it wasn't designed as the symbol of hatred to blacks. It did not mean/symbolize racism. It was the flag that was chosen by this new nation. The reason its viewed as "racist (which is total bullshit) is because the country's biggest known fact was that it was fighting for slavery. It was a nations flag, not a flag used to symbolize hate!
I for one, am proud of this flag. Even though they supported slavery, the people under it fought so bravely for their beliefs. Those beliefs were NOT SLAVERY! THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHT TO SECEDE FROM THE UNION! Lincoln just brought up slavery to keep the legislation supporting the war, because he wantged so badly to reunite the nation.
I don't know if I sound like a blabbering jackass right now, but I don't care. I truly think it's important for you to know this stuff. Thanks.

Well, it's not racist. Formerly a resident of Georgia, I saw it a lot. It's not racist, but flying it just shows that you're a low-class ignorant hillbilly.

Its still an anti-American symbol. Also, why didn't you just post this in the existing thread?

The reason they wanted to succeed was because the South wanted slaves, but the North didn't. Yes, the Confederate Flag is a racist one.

Agreed,I saw a lot of those flags when I went down to Mississippi and all of the houses flying them were beat down old shacks with red, beaten up 4x4s trucks in the front

Considering the Stars and Bars is the A State Flag(Can not remember which one) I do not see why people find it racist.

Formerly, it made up most of Georgia's flag. It was changed because African American groups found it insulting. Today, Georgia has what is considered by general consent to be the worst state flag in the US.

You have an actual reason to have it up it's historicly related. And also If you use the same logic then the nazi flag does not show haterd to jews.

The swastika, though maily remembered for Nazism, has been a symbol in many cultures. Ancient Hindus used it as a symbol of peace. It represented the sun in many Native American cultures. I'm not saying you should wave around swastikas, but just be aware it's not an entirely evil symbol.

it depends wich way the swastika faces if you see it like it's in Keizer forum sig then it stands for the way the nazis used it. However if its facing backwords then it stands for the way the ancient culters used it.

Regardless of whether or not the flag represents racism, it DOES represent a dissenting movement in our country that embodied racist policies. That dissenting movement was later defeated and ceased to exist. The Confederacy is no longer part of the United States, it is gone forever, and our country is a whole hell of a lot better because of this.
Flying it is both unpatriotic and dumb, in my opinion. It would be like a German today flying a Nazi flag and questioning why people suggest that such a thing is antisemitic, and bringing up the fact that the swastika was actually an ancient Hindu symbol...
Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:
-The compliant mainstream media for their pro-Obama propaganda.
-Black Panthers for their intimidation of voters.

Yes, it was the flag of a nation. A nation both rooted in and based on the dehumanization and slavery of Blacks. To say that it stands for "Southern Pride" would be like saying that the Nazi flag stands for German Pride.

They wanted to secede from the union so they could have a nation based on slavery.

Going by that mentality would mean you feel the usage of the swastika is fine as well. Do you?

Yes. Lets. Because that's wrong. Participating in a war doesn't mean you necessarily believe in its cause.

He just said that he's proud of him because, and I quote, he "fought and died for the sole purpose of protecting what he believed in".
Do you see why you're an idiot?
He just SAID that the relative he's proud of fought because they believed in the cause...therefore this isn't a case of "I was just following orders" or "I had no choice", this is a case of "I WANT TO KEEP ME SOME SLAVES! YEEEHAW!!!". =/
Jesus christ, read before you post, is that so much to ask?
Who said he believed in that cause? People serving in Iraq believe in defending their country. They may not believe in killing, or deposing dictators, or anything like that. But they DO believe in serving when their country needs/wants them. I guess I should have been a little more clear. But still......
You really should go fuck yourself, you arrogant piece of incestuous, flaccid, rotting, donkey-fucking, masturbating bag of smashed assholes.
