Sony has had to apologise and take a game with a shoot scene in a Manchester cathedral. Do you think religion has gone too far or is this game just stupid?

“For a global manufacturer to recreate one of our great cathedrals with photo-realistic quality and then encourage people to have gun battles in the building is beyond belief and highly irresponsible.”

Okay thats just dumb.
It's like asking permission to make a WW2 game with a battle inside of a concentration camp.

That part sounds almost like the church is endorsing the game.

I believe the computer generated graphics are based on the cathedral.
They never actually went & shot footage of the place.
So its the "Politically correct police" raising our awareness to their stupidity again.

I haven't seen the game yet, but if I can get one for my playstation 2, I'm going to make that 1 more game sold when I buy it.

Maybe there is a place for feed back & we can request other places of worship from other religions. Like a great 'Al qaeda terrorist takedown in Mecca', that would be cool !

Those who have only the religious opinions of others in their head & worship them. Have no room for their own thoughts & no room to contemplate anyone elses ideas either-More

The way this story was just shown on itv news is ridiculous. ?gthe ultra violent computer game SET in a cathedral?h it isn't SET in a cathedral, the cathedral shows up in half a level, you wouldn't say casino royale's SET in an aston martin or the shining SET in a hedge maze. They discribed the game as if it's nothing but a giant blood bath of killing and bullets, they also said that the violence is the only reason people are buying the game (which just isn't true)

I went to that cathedral loads of times when I was young. An inter-species firefight would have really helped to liven up those dull services.

Technically, they probably have a valid compaint, but I think the COE is probably just trying to get attention.

Of course the irony here is that they are creating great publicity for the game. I bet that some execs at Sony could have kissed the COE when they saw that segment on the news, EVERYONE is going to be talking about Fall of Man now. It's like Manhunt all over again, on the downside Jack Tomphson is probably going to be on the phone to Manchester first thing in the morning.

I remember playing one of those wwII First person shooters, and It was realistic in a sense that sometimes there were fighting in a church. (with the grave yard, pock marked with bomb craters, and you could hide in them). So why isn't the church freaking out in that case. Your hero, a soldier has to go through the church into the pew sanctuary, and up to where ever the Nazi machine gun is, and has to go kill a monster soldier that is threatening world peace. So how is that diffrent from a fictional hero killing a monster soldier that is also threatening world peace?

Because, you know, shooting in a cathedral is worse than killing a street full of people.

Saying that your church is used by the defenders of humanity in a global crisis isn't exactly bad publicity for your church. But it's even better publicity for Sony when the game gets more exposure!

I think that the Church is right in one sense, because it IS an actual lcoation, and Sony didn't ask permission to use it. But their whole argument about what the scene promotes is just bullshit. Nobody's paying any attention to the fact that they're in Manchester Cathedral. They're paying attention to the giant fucking aliens running towards them.

In my eyes a last stand against an evil alien species in a church shows hope and God verses Evil.

Don't see what the problem is, allthough they should of maybe asked the church first.

The guy's trying to pin all gun crime in Manchester on that one level of R:FoM - as opposed to, say, the general drug dealers of the Moss Side area and the gang violence that springs up from it.

Although somebody else has pointed out that the gamne's been on release for three months now, so if it took that long for the bishop to reach the cathedral level (which is the second or third level, isn't it?), they must be a really bad gamer.
