The Mayans consist of a different society and culture to ours meaning they have different intepretations of what will happen. Many cultures waited for the end of the world in 999, others in 1999. Some also believed the Devil would rise on the 6th of the 6th 06 but it never happened. Just because one society says something will happen doesn't mean it will at any stage.

The way I see it, if the world ends as the Mayans predict, it's not like I can do anything about it. So I'm going to prepare as though nothing special will happen--and if it does... well, I'm dead. :D

The Mayans actually didn't think the world would end in 2012. That's more of a misunderstanding of the end of the world as we know it . They actually thought that sometime around 2012, the entire world's spiritual beliefs would drastically change with a fusion of spirit and earth/matter. They saw this event religiously as the coming of the god Quetzalcoatl, who is often depicted as a fusion of bird and snake. Many other religions unrelated to the Mayans, and even some modern religions, believe a significant spiritual event will occur around the same time (2010-2020).

Besides, they didn't say the world was gonna END in 2012, they said there was gonna be a change in world order. I, being a scientific thinker (with some theological and philosophical angles) highly doubt there's gonna be anything extremely significant happening in 2012.

I heard about this like 4 years ago, and I was freaked out as hell for a month or so. i hardly left my room cause i though my life was pointless.

Now I don't care. When 2012 comes I'll probably say. "It's gonna suck if the world ends."

I can't say I'm not worried though, I mean the possibility is always there.

if i go into the date and time and change the year it only goes up to 2099,

after that it goes back to 1980.

Maybe the mayans knew they would all be killed way before then.

The Mayans predicted that on December 21, 2012, the earth would line up with the sun and the center of the galaxy. And astronomers have confirmed it. The astronomers say that when that happens, the magnetic poles will move, causing the Earth's crust to move too.

That asteroid is not big enough to cause "the end of earth" itself, though it might be quite devastating anyway. I think it is actually degraded to grade 0 on the Torinoscale. Every asteroid has that grade I think.
