Why do they try to prove religion wrong?
Religious people, have to teach others about their beliefs.
This isn’t true for atheists.
I know some atheists don’t even bother unless someone is pressing beliefs toward them, but some atheists try so hard to prove it wrong anyways.
Why?

I've actually asked myself this question before. I also wondered if atheist regard God as a supersititon then why are they so desperate to erase His name from the public forum/arena. It's ironic, atheists bitch that religious people try to convert them, while they're trying their most earnest to disprove my God.

Most atheists don't actively try to disprove religion, you just only hear from the ones who do.

Presumably because they perceive religion to have an adverse effect on society.

Atheism is the lack of religion, which is religiously practiced. That's how it's practioners have been able to sway the ACLU into defending them and their attempts to get God thrown out of the public schools, public courthouses, our currency... because it goes against their disbelief in said God.

The definition of religion I use (Don't know when I learned this... 5th grade maybe?)
A group of people with common beliefs.
For the definition I use, Atheism would be a religion with the belief of the lack of a God.
Damn you semantics!
But I see where your coming from :/

Atheists usually tell someone that they arne't a religion as they don't believe in a god.
Buddhism does not believe in a god, but rather a messenger, yet they're a religion.
Therefore, I can conclude that a religion is a set of beliefs. And since everyone has their own set of beliefs, atheism can be labeled as a religion.

Why should people pray to Joe Pesci? Is that a religion?

You're grouping atheists (a diverse group) into one pile(extremist atheists that do not necessarily make up the majority). Not all of them are so petty as to try and erase "God" away from everything. However most atheists are more eager to keep separation of church and state because they are a minority group and are sick of following laws based on someone else's religion. The atheists who proselytize probably proselytize for the same reasons many religious people do, because they think they have "seen the light" and want to "show others toward it". I am agnostic, but like many atheists I am very much interested in separation of church and state because I don't want to live under a theocracy. The reasons some atheists push back with their beliefs is because some religious people push them with their beliefs.

People just talk religion... it is, after all, a human thing.
but it's presumptious to believe that all atheists want to prove God is non existant or whatever. There are quite a few that don't care if God exists or not, and are quite comfortable to live and let live.

A group of people with common beliefs.
So the Democratic party is thus a religion.
As such, though, most atheists don't carry common beliefs, they just share the common disbelief in a God. There are many types of Atheists: Stoic atheists, humanist atheists, nihilist atheists, existentialist atheists, Buddhist atheists, so on and so forth. And these can all be mixed and intermingled.
For the definition I use, Atheism would be a religion with the belief of the lack of a God.
And if you are going to use religion in that (albeit incorrect) way, then yes, you are absolutely right. In your incorrectness.

Not belonging to a religion isn't a religion, that's just foolish doublespeak.

Yeah, i've always been asking myself the same damn questions. Why do atheists say Christians are "pushy" and we're zealots who try to convert everyone we see yet they're the ones who go " God doesn't exist, you believe in thin air, just be an atheist."

It is pretty easy actually. It is like how people who are against something often debate about the subject. How can you not see this?
Do you think people who are against torture never talks about torture? People who are against immigration never talks about immigration? People who are against racism never talks about racism? Obviously, if you just thought a little, you'd see that it is perfectly logical for people of both sides of an issue to talk, not just the people on the "yes" side.
As for atheism being a religion, it is just an absurd claim. There is no doctrine or set of beliefs for an atheist to follow. There are no selected atheist leaders, nor anything else that makes it appear as a religion. There is no holy days, no animals you can't eat, no names you must not use in vain, no stuff you must do to reach the afterlife, no book you must read, no prophet you must listen to. You can call atheism a philosophy or even a lifestyle, but calling it a religion is is just something people do to bash atheism and striking where they think it hurts the most.
Atheism is a negative. It tells what people DON'T believe. Do you believe in an afterlife filled with monkeys? Not? Perhaps your religion is Nonafterlifemonkeyism then? Classifying people after negatives is just absurd.

Exactly. Atheism is just a minor part of some people's philosophies, it's not even worth mentioning. If religion were to disappear, we would have no need to classify people as atheists.

Correct me if i'm wrong , but dont athiests believe all religion is wrong? especially the idea of god. I think its agnostics who take a more laid back aproach to religion, like "there may be a god/there may not be a god." So it would be normal for an actual athiest to challange these beliefs.

Thats true with me. I tend not to think about religion ontill someone tries to convert me or tell me what I'm doing is wrong.
Well in what you are talking about atheists will say religion is wrong just as religious people will say atheism is wrong.
In this case, the door swings both ways. It all depends on who you are talking to.

That depends on the definition of religion, which often varies today

But they don't necessarily believe in one.
And many atheists do claim that a religion is the belief in a higher power.
So, atheists can kiss my ass, and you can too for trying to defend them pitifully.
