I don't know if this topic has been brought up before or not... But do you really think, that as endless as our universe is, that we are the only living (and somewhat intelligent) life-forms in the entire cosmos? I mean, what about crop circles, Roswell, Area 51, etc...? They can't all be scams, can they? Just curious, ya know. Because, at least, I believe in "alien life." It's somewhere out there... is has to be... don't you agree?

Area 51 is a top secret Ait Base that developed the U2, the government purposely made up the UFO's in rosewell and such in order to distract attention from the U2 project, And they did a damn good job.
We can't possilby be the only living things in the universe considering there are over 100 billion planets (not countring moons) and .01% of those are predicted to have the exact same atmosphere as Earth (which is only compatible to Carbon based life forms and it is entirely possible that there are other based life forms) and even if we werent created through some lightining strike composing amino acids it is very farfetched to think of how old the universe is that no other ones were created like that.
And on another note, I watched something on the discovery channel about the earth 200 million years from now and it was very thought provoing. Invertabrets (squid/jellyfish) will rise onto land and become the dominant lifeform, to us it will be very hard to tell them apart from eachother but they will take place of the ever fading mammles. One particularily interesting one was a squid like thing that swung from trees like a primate and was able to communicate with other members of it's species through schreeches telling them when danger is near. And the last living mammle species is s poogle which is much like cattle to the silver spiders, they feed them seeds caught in thier web until they are fat and then eat them. Imagine talking to Squids and being herded by spiders.

We're probably not alone in the universe, but I also don't believe that this incredibly advanced species out there somewhere doesn't have better things to do than turn cows inside out or anally probe rural farmers. They're probably chilling on their planet wondering the same thing.
On an unrelated not I wonder what an alien would be learning by anal probes at this oint that 1 out of 10 people enjoy it.

One of the surest signs that intelligent life exists in outer space is that none of it has tried to contact us.

I find it hard to believe that we are "all alone" in the universe, considering how large and how old the universe it. However, we're bound to have different definitions of "life" and "intelligence" than other people (for lack of a better word) out there. Older planets would have older life, life that possibly evolved to be much more intelligent than us, but not necessarily.
Quote of the day: @Nysssa "What is the word I want to use here?" @freakapotimus "Taint".

Good topic. Since about the age of 14 I have been interest in this issue reading up on all possible statements of factual (or maybe fictional) information gathered around the world and thinking of the matter quite seriously. I have to point out this wasn't because I have watched too much X-files of something, but rather natural intelligent curiosity.
I think I have posted some stuff on the issue of "God" being a certain more advanced life form in one of the threads yesterday. I think it was "Are you there God?" or something.
I do believe we are not alone and things are often to complicated for our rather primitive minds to comprehend.

Sorry, for the double post. Here's what I wanted to post really:
This will be probably disregarded, due to my not-entirely-sober state and the silliness of the whole post, but I was going to just ask, if anyone ever considered the same thing I often have. What can God be really? Please, do not take me for some sci-fi weirdo who watched too much x-files, I just have read loadsa factual info on the paranormal stuff and here is how some area of thought formed (going to be brief). Is it possible that what God is to people (a holy spirit) is not really what it was. We could assume that someone did create our planet in 7 days or more, but that something was not a spiritual force, but rather a physical. Could it be possible that we were created by some advanced civilization? Jesus on the other hand, was a worker of miracles, son of this God. Who after his death, somehow ressurected and rose to the sky on a cloud... Do you think it is possible that this was some sort of an advanced physical force, advanced beings being sent on this planet.
Hmm, can't really write anymore, drunk mind doesn't function, but I do have more to say really. Anyway, maybe in some 100,000 years time we could (unless we are all destroyed by some nuclear war) achieve such a high level of evolution, so as to be able to travel somewhere out far in the universe, possibly find a mediocre life which we could then work on and then send our little "Jesus" to them as a preacher of our "godly" word to the new civilization???
Hmm, if anyone doesn't ignore this and doesn't see me as some sci-fi obsessed queer, say what you think.

I believe in no jesus or god,but as to the question that you proposed about what is god well he is energy if anything. In school you are taught that energy never dies it just changes. We are a mass of energy that never really dies we just change. So god must be the same if he exist.Grabs Bong::
Yes, if you do not believe in God as something Holy, you could think of him as a mass of energy. But what am I proposing (it is not necessarily my belief, just an assumption of possibilities) if that this God, which created us, watches over us and sometimes decides to interfere, is some "experiment" of a more advanced civilization. In the sense that, maybe Jesus was not the son of this mass of undying energy, but rather a messenger of this civilization, instructing us what to believe, according to their desires. It is kind of a radical point of view and many may not take it seriously, dismissing the whole "aliens" subject as being retarded. But, knowing our rather primitive evolution (after all we don't use like 8/10 of our brain's capabilities), it is possible to say that there are older and more advanced form of life, who were able in one way or another, create us (I do not believe in evolution of man as we know him today, from some sort of microscopic organism, even over the period of millions of years), and watch over us, only to interfere, just like in the case of Jesus at a point in time when we are ready to accept a certain amount of information to guide us.

alright somebody get the straight-jacket ready, cause I'm about to spout my theory.
Why do aliens look so much like humans? What are the chances of two completely different planets having a paralell evolution? My answer: Aliens are just humans from the future. In the future, someone is going to invent a time machine. Those future people are going to want to study todays humans as much as we study prehistoric humans. However, they will not want to disturb the past, because there is little of value there except for information (assuming the paradox theory of the time-space continuum is a total load). So they come here, study a few individuals, and leave without creating a large scale disturbance to the lives of the abducted the same as ecologists do today.

I DO NOT THINK YOU REQUIRE A STRAIGHT JACKET! hehe
Yes, it is a possible theory, which has more than onced lurked through my head as well. Those people who dismiss aliens as non-existant are simply suing the human logic to the extent we can at the moment. Because our way of thinking is primitive really, to what it could actually evolve when we start using our brain (even as it is now) to all its 100%!

another question:
Is there terrestial intelligence other than humanity? Are "animals" such as dolphins, elephants, whales, and possibly giant-squid (Krakens are proven to exist, and squids ARE the most intelligent non-vertibrates) capable of some form of logic or sapient thought? It has been proven that dolphins, whales, and elephants use high/low frequency sounds of a comples nature to communicate. Is this language? If it is, does this mean theses "animals" are capable of coherent communication with humans? I think this is much more likely than extraterrestrial intelligence by far.

Very interesting theory, Funk... Actually one of the better ones I've seen/heard/read.
Here's what I believe: No, we're not alone in the universe, it's mathematically all but impossible. That's about as much energy as I care to put toward this kind of subject, though. It seems to me to be a vast waste of thought to spend any reasonable amount of time theorizing on anything that can never be proven. I'd rather spend my time thinking of things that make me smile, like race cars, pasta, and perfect boobs.

Ugh man, don't start about boobs. I have been obsessed with them since summer. I mean it was quite disturbing how I was alright with it all and then since this summer all you could hear me say was "tits, tits, TITS!". Anyhow, I think the aliens subject is very interesting and deep as it allows endless process of thought.
Funk has a good theory there about aliens being nothing but humans from the distant future. The aliens do look like humans and it has been analysed before that over years of evolution we will eventually look something like that. We will lose hair as we do not need it as protection from the cold, as we use our hats, our head will increase in size (maybe due to larger brains!yay) out bodies will gradually lose their physical strength as even now we can leave the most complicated task to some machines. Maybe in the future we will need no physical effort to live.
One of my other theories is that the creation of Earth is somehow related to aliens. It is quite interesting how so many civilizations before managed to achieve fundamental discoveries in progress and then vanished without a trace. Take south american civilizations for example or the Egyptians, who were quite advanced in medicine, architecture (Now did could they really build the pyramids on their own with the technology they had?). On some ancient Egyptian carvings, you can even see something which resembles a light bulb with a wire attache to it. Some other show the likeness of an aircraft.
Nowadays, many people claim to have witnessed some sort of extraterrestial activities on Earth. Now, these may have been regarded as some tricks of the God in the earlier centuries, we now see it as some other intelligent race, trying to communicate with us in one way or another.
I believe it is possible, that those guys could have actually created us and monitor our progress. Once a civilization became too advanced, they would get rid of it (maybe we have just been given a chance to survive a bit longer and here we are, with spaceships and stom bombs). As I have stated before, it could be so that they send their messenger, Jesus Christ, on Earth to teach people to believe the things they want us to believe. After his death and ressurection they took him back.
Of course my theory can be argued as silly and not supported by facts. But what definite facts can be given on this issue except guesses and opinions.

All right i know im opening myself for an attack on my "paranioa".
We are not alone definitely not,the universe is so vast. How can humans be so shallow about religion though,if god is the creator of all did he also create the lives of aliens in other galaxies.
I believe in the big conspiracy of the new world order, the idea that the government will eventually make one government, one religion, one army for the world. It may sound great but then why is their still a need for the army if the whole world is in unity? The government definitely know we are not alone and that is the reason for the Illuminati,to unite the world to fight an alien race that is coming. Its just my theory.

It has been proved that chims speak in simple sentences such as "Climb tree, quickly" to get out of danger. The worrying thing is that some chimps have declared what is war on each other and killed all the males in a group, along with all the babies for fun and moved on, without mating at all.

no way are we all alone... there's gotta be some other life-forms out there...
according to the second poster, there would be 1 million planets with sustainable life...
i mean COME ON... how can humans be the only race ever????
what we should do is send things into black holes... cuz i have a theory that they are actually wormholes into different sections of the universe... (that bastard stephen hawkings stole my idea... bastard...)

AAAHAHAHAHAHA, dont you know anything about astronuclearphysisist, get with the times man. Stephen Hawking was the one who belived that wormholes didnt exist, he even made a bet that they didnt. Wow good up Bum (now that's a new phrase for me) I always found it interesting that so many people who claim that man is evil because we have wars don't that animals can as well. Weasel will kill for fun too, slaughtering domestic chickens and not eating any of them. Interesting you have to wonder if that means these particular animals are farther along the evolutionary chain or lower because of these actions...and where that puts us.

Hmm, I'll jot my thoughts down real quick-like.
I was watching television the other night, and I saw for the first time some of the images that he Hubble telescope has given us. One image was of an extended exposure to one exact spot in space for..eh. A few days? Hours? Something like that...and it came back with a picture that showed what ended up to be ofer 1500 galaxies.
Galaxies. Or solar systems much like our own, I'd wager.
If there's no intelligent life, I'm sure there's potential for it. And I also happen to believe there -is- intelligent life.
that's it for now. I could get into the theology of it, and all that, but nah. I'm too tired.
