So in the early afternoon, I was watering plants.
And I heard the "squek" sound-- which I associate with hummingbirds. And all of the sudden I see the little thing, and it goes to the water. I'm perfectly still, just enjoying its presence.
And it tried to drink water from the house, but instead the water knocks it to the ground. I laugh and it flies off away.
So I'm still watering the garden, and when I put the hose away-- I see it again. It's on the clothes line, and it's fucking adorable. I spent about 10 minutes in the sun just watching it as it groomed its feather and even sneezed.
And then it starts to fly, but it comes over to me!
And I lifted my hand with the index finger for it... and then it flies away. I thought at first I scared it, but no. It comes back a few seconds later and it actually sat on my finger!
And it was there for minute, and I was so fucking awed by this moment. I mean, it's not like you can catch hummingbirds. And it's a beautiful thing... colored like a finch (not blue like the ones I've seen in commericals) and it loves to groom its feathers.
I took pictures of hummingbirds upclose years ago... of a mother feeding its baby on the clothes line. But I never coaxed one to come to me. I'm gonna find it on my old PC...

Well... it does actually make sense when you think about it. I think that that could be a possible slang term for gay sex in the future :o

That’s really nice to hear. I have seen hummingbirds while I was at my Grandma’s house in Nova Scotia as a young kid and I stared at the hummingbird in awe as it was flying around my Grandma’s flowers. Hummingbirds aren’t around where I live so I don’t think I’ll ever have your experience with those cute little critters. Sure, I had those kinds of encounters with dragonflies but not hummingbirds. It was really nice that you had that encounter.

i have stood by the hummingbird feeders onetime and put my finger out and they land on it to eat.
and there was a time a humming bird got into my dads shop and couldnt get out so it flew in circles until it got tired and started spiraling down and my dad caught it in his hands.

Anyways, your lucky.
He's probably afraid of them. =( Has nightmares of giant hummingbirds chasing him down and sucking the blood from his body like pollen from a flower.
Which makes me wonder how awesome a B list horror movie would be if it were named Attack of the Giant Killer Hummingbirds.
