(Lucid Dreaming is a dream where you control your dream and you have full control of everything instead of just watching your dream. You pretty much step into your dream. (Instead of wasting 1/3 of your life sleeping you can take control of it to do whatever you want inside the dream.))
Lucid dreaming.... Isn't it all what we want to do?
But how is this done?
There are many ways to do this.
1. While you are lying down keep thinking to yourself 'I'm going to dream now. I'm in a dream. I'm aware of my dream'
2. Visualise. Imagine yourself doing what you want to do in the dream (eg. flying to the beach.)
3. And alot more. Try searching for them if the above ones do not work.
If this does not work the first time do not worry it is normal. For some people it can take as many as 35 tries! But it is worth it.
There are many reasons why people want to lucid dream. Some examples are as followed =-
Adventure,
Excitement,
Social Practice,
Stopping nightmares,
Problem solving,
To get away from reality.
So you may aswell try it.

I had a lucid dream once. I could halfly controll myself. It was something about robots, and i knew from other nightmares that i had to die to wake up, so i went and got shot.

I can usually control myself in a dream. I just don't know it's a dream till i wake up. I had a dream that I was eating a toaster strudel XD.

these are not ways of doing it, these seem to be tips that may help you getting a lucid dream
1. While you are lying down keep thinking to yourself 'I'm going to dream now. I'm in a dream. I'm aware of my dream'
A help would be to get one of these mp3's with washes and drones in the background of a voice saying "I am aware that I am in a dream" etc.- they're around, just try getting one. (btw they're awesome for fx in music :D )
3. And alot more. Try searching for them if the above ones do not work.
Well one of the most important things is the reality check once in a while- like, stopiing and checking if anything unnatural, weird or impossible is happening around you (doing this in real life might make you do it in your dream- and then, "hey, I'm in a dream yo")
If this does not work the first time do not worry it is normal. For some people it can take as many as 35 tries! But it is worth it.
Fuck that number I've tried for 4 years and not gotten one once
Adventure,
Excitement,
Social Practice,
Stopping nightmares,
Problem solving,
To get away from reality,
VirtualFuck⢠which so many people think about it when they hear about it for the first time
fixed it for you

it's kind of a psychological thing too, some people have it natural ( like meh :D )
and some don't.

When I become aware enough of myself to try this, I end up waking when I try to do something (or sometimes just when I become aware). How do I stop this?

i never have nightmares lol :P
i just get incredibly surreal dreams instead

i think i think similar to david firth tbh :P
because most of his animations (the creepy ones like salad fingers) are like copys of my dreams and apparently based from his!

I've had lucid dreaming to an extent a few times, though I wasn't in complete control. I guess its sort of like the Matrix -- you have to adamantly KNOW you're in a dream, not just believe it.
So I normally don't have full control of these dreams because I can never get the knowing part down. The closest I get is believing, but not knowing for a fact that I'm dreaming.

This topic is very interesting. My dreams are usually Lucid tho. Did you know one sign of sleep deprivation is that you see grey parallel, squiggly lines?

I've had them a few times.
Incidently, does anyone experience a feeling like they are battling for control over their dream with their mind? I drifted in and out of control of my dream a few times once. One second I could move around and do stuff as I willed but then I couldn't and everything happened invoulantarily.

If you mean you wake up not long into the lucid dream this is what to do.
Grab something. A rock. A cup. Something on the ground. Just anything that you can grab.

I can control about 80% of my dreams. But there was one that stood out,
I was dreaming that my family was being kidnapped, so I ran into my
house to save them. But then I'm like: this isn't what my house looks like!
So then I figured out it was a dream, and had complete control. I literally
spawned a big screen t.v. and started watching, until I woke up.

Holy crap..
I tried this with whatever I could rememeber before I started to sleep.. didn't get anything.
But I was dreaming something about Halo, and I was like "omg im dreaming", so I starting thinking to myself, I'm in a dream, I'm in a dream, to try and control it or something.
All of a sudden, there's this static like from a microphone or something, real loud in my ear, dream ends.
Can't wait to get this to work. :D

I can always do that. When I'm in a dream, works better when it's a scary dream/nightmare I can tell I'm asleep and dreaming. Like in this one dream, I was being chased by like zombie things, and you never wanna get caught because you know it's bad. In the dream I remind myself it's a dream and control my body to wake up from a nightmare. I found 2 things that can wake me up.
1. Blink in the dream purposely, almost always works.
2. If blinking doesn't work, I always just shake myself in the dream. Then when I wake up I'm shaking so I think I can control myself through my dream. ^^
I feel so special that I can wake myself up.

I have lucid dreams sometimes, but I find it nearly impossible to control. After I realise I'm dreaming I start to wake up, and have to struggle to stay asleep, and I still have problems controlling lots of things in the dream.
