I was listening to the Democratic Presidential Nominee debate and every canidate said that we should limit the profits of the insurance companies and gas companies.
WHAT????
Do they not believe in a free market system? As much as I would like gas prices and healthcare to go down, it's not right to say "Ok, you guys can't make more that X amount of dollars". It's socialism at it's finest. Why are democrats getting so much attention for their plan of socialism?
I do it for the lulz

Republicans can be just as stupid, if not more. Bush is a great example.

Bush isn't a very good Republican. If he had more spine, like a good Republican should have, he'd be a much better President and much more popular, even with anything and everythign he has already done.

Maybe it's to prevent price gouging or arbitrary premium increases.

Most Republican's are better then the democrats, But Bush is just stupid. Bill O'reilly Is a good one, Sure he IS NOT fair and balanced, but he's still smart.

Precisely. 2 industries well-known for playing on peoples fears, or playing on futures indexes. Since when does price regulation = Socalism? Heard of words like Anti-trust or Monopoly? Maybe it's linked to Compulsory Health Insurance and Petrol Subsidies or Taxes?

The problem is that any competition between oil refineries that had previously encouraged fair prices based on availability of raw crude oil is now gone.
A lot of oil refinerie mergers have in the past decade that has made it so that only a few big companies and a few tiny ones control the entire US oil market. On top of that they all work together as a team by selling and buying overstocked supplies to keep prices ballanced across the board.
If this trend continues, one of the oil refineries like Exxon is going to continue buying out and merging until a monopoly has basically been formed. It's like what happened to Microsoft when they didn't provide any room for apple to compete. Except in this scenario the price of gas is a lot more effective on our standard of living than the price or availability of a PC operating system.

Or maybe it's to buy votes from people who blame the oil companies, not the big SUV they drive to work every day by themselves. That grumble every time they have to buy $100 worth of gas every week. It's certainly not their fault! It's gotta be the big oil companies! Never mind that there are some of us that can get 1000 miles out of $100 worth of gas.
Or maybe it's to buy votes from people who build and own homes on isolated spits of sand abutting the ocean, then blame the feds and insurance companies because their house gets destroyed, then stupidly rebuild in the exact same spot (if it's not underwater).
So often times it happens, that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we had the key...

Well yeah, those are two completely viable reasons as well.
I'm just saying that it's not necessarily because all democrats are socialist communist facist pig-dogs bent on destroying the American way of life.

No, they're just people who put their political career at a higher priority than common sense, by coming up with solutions to "problems" that don't really exist, that only leads to actual problems.

you know what? fuck politics. I think things would be much easier if we got rid of parties so that we would have people who really give a shit about our country running for office instead of douchebags like Bush, Kerry, and Bin Laden :)
