Would you rather be here when the earth implodes in a ball of toxic dust, or have the security that, hey, I died 20 years ago, the next generation can suffer?

Hastening the eventual demise of the planet isn't exactly the way forward, because I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't want to be around at the exact moment it happened. And, who knows, sci-fi geeks may be right, and somehow the planet gets saved by some new technology in the future, so isn't it worth a fighting chance? Trashing it now won't solve anything.

Now, erradicating the human race overnight, that would; of all the dominant species the planet has had, we're experts at fucking it up for every living thing one way or the other. Evolution gave us the tools to erradicate our natural predators, and by doing so, we started a cycle of death that is claiming new species every day and will, eventually, take us with it.

Does that make me Pro-Dinosaur now?

yes, yes it does. Remember, half of evolution is the extinction of animals that are not suited to their environemnt. If humans are the greatest animals, then causing the extinction of other species is proof of our dominance. I say kill all the other animals, and replace them with machines. I have also noticed the fact she's a slut. Many Greek people like putting their genitals in the earth after breakfast. And our mother earth seems to be happy with it.

Basically? If everyone recycled, it would make a HUGE dent. Not everyone recycles, so, it doesn't make a big enough dent to show skeptics that it works.

yet more proof that noone cares about my "trash mines" concept, which states that whether you recycle or not, the resources will just sit in the dump till someone realizes the potential of mining useful reasources from the trash, creating a more efficient and productive company that individual recyclers can.

last time I checked, Cannibal does it because HE thinks its cool. He could care less what anyone else thinks about it. Why does everyone assume people post because they need acceptance? I post to help excersize my mind, not because I think it will make people like me.

I'm a lower class guy (13k a year, gross), but the faci is that the wealthy pay most of the taxes (graduated tax system / tax brackets etc). Therefore, if the tax cuts are spread perfectly evenly to the payers THE WEALTHY GET ALL OF THE TAX CUTS. It would be different if we used a flat tax, but that system is just too hard to cheat to ever pass, let alone all the money the accountants would lose.....

OK first off, the argument for NOT recycling is selfish and pessimistic. You aren't the only one on this living planet, you have a responsibility to ensure that your friends enjoy it as much as you.
You may have kids, your friends and their friends may have kids. These kids will inherit a wasteland if nothing is done. Do you want that for your own family, to see just "how much" Daddy has done?

You say the Earth will be destroyed in a billion years or so. With current predictions, true. But if you hasten its demise, then we might not have the tech to escape to another planet, or as someone said earlier, possibly even stop the catastrophe in another way.

Finally, recycling can't hurt, can it? At most it'd take a few minutes of your life each day. And if you're existential/nihilistic, hey! Something to do with your time.

There are new technologies coming out everyday, that reduce waste and rely on infinitely renewable resources, e.g. wind, tidal, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal, and soon to be big, fuel cells in cars that create NO CO2, only steam.

but what if by poisoning the earth we are only making the species on it more robust? What if the various gene altering and cancer causing substances are accelerating evolution through increased mutations? What if by pouring motor oil into the gutter, I am helping to breed an intelligent race of rats who have learned to avoid such dangers? I'm trying to take this one step farther. There is no evolutionary constant. There is no "speed of evolution". Evolution happens as fast as it has to, due to the inherent will of living things to continue living. So then, while yes, many species have and will continue to go extinct, biodiversity between noncompatible breeding species serves no evolutionary purpose. By paring down the playing field to a handful of "super-adaptor" species, the breeding population of the individual species goes up, thus allowing for faster and more competitive evolution. Thus evolution would in fact speed up to compensate for the desruction, and would fully compensate for losses incured throught pollution. To whit, look and the common city rat. As an all around species it replaces the dog, cat, rabbit, and fox. so then its population can swell to the size of the combined populations of the replaced species, and therefore increase the size of its own breeding pool, allowing for greater genetic diversity within the species. And throught this process we achieve a species that is more robust and capable of survival.
