Essentially this is an argument over whether or not a private buisness has the right to refuse service if the refusal is based off of prejudicial matters [as opposed to the all too common "No shirt, no shoes, no service" which of COURSE is understandable.
Being a libertarian, [or 50% socially permissive] i beleive it is fair that they can do this as long as it can be done in any way shape or form, so if it can be done because a person is straight, it can be done for the following reasons:
- homosexual
- man or woman
- black white latino asian etc.
- christian, jew, muslim, buddhist etc.
- Age
- Other
There are obviously things here that would if used in the same situation [you cant come in because your black] would bring up other issues that were adressed in supreme court cases, [Banning of segregation]
if in the case that people cant handle the rejection of racial, sexual, or other social dinomination's and the acceptance of others in private buisnesses then i'm afraid that we have to hold the standard to everyone.
It percludes me however, why a straight person would want to go to a gay bar, since the concept of a bar is to socialize with your attractor factor.

The 1964 Civil Rights Act doesn't ban discrimination in places of public accomodation on the basis of sexual orientation, but it does in terms of religion, ethnicity etc.

Yeah, I have no idea either, but the focus here is that this is fine but if it were the other way around, it would be considered discriminatory and horrible.

They might ad an addendum to that act in the future.
And never the less, a legal expert may use laws against segregation as a basis of argument against what the people in this article did should something like this every reach the supreme court. [or other court if this was in the united states, i read the article awhile ago so i forgot]

Funny I just saw on the news a lesbian is sueing eHarmony for not allowing gays on there. Heh. Gays say they don't want to be treated any differentl.... but they single themselves out every chance they get.

you could have come up with dozens of much better examples to support your point. i hope you realise that the example you mentioned is detrimental to your statement.

I probably could have come up with a better example. BUt oh well.
I guess I can see where you are coming from, but the fact is eHarmony is a private company. Forcing them to allow gays would be like forcing a womens clothes store to sell mens.
O yea you failed to explain how my example was so detrimental to my statement.

Not really. The example he mentioned shows that gays and lesbians want equal treatment, whereas the whole thread is about how they want to be allowed to single themselves out.
Seems to prove his point to me.

How could they tell that their straight?
Anyway, the flaw that they found in the system of the law is useful for this bar, but in a sense shouldn't this be emphasized on all pubs that want to keep strictly gay's in or out.
I mean, if you flipped it the opposite way and had a straight bar that banned gays then it would be a scandal and homophobic. The law that they are bending, bends it in a way that can set them up and push them down.
While I don't think any bar would start refusing gay people, if one did follow this motion... it would be totally gratified, and fun to watch the media spill over :)
