Best Specs for under $1000? 2007-05-26 18:18:01 Reply

I want to build a new computer. I want it to cost under $1,000 USD. I only need to build a new machine, no monitor or anything else. However, it will need to be complete with:

1. Motherboard
2. Processor
3. Power Supply
4. Case
5. Memory (2gb and up)
6. Hard Drive (200gb and up)
7. Good graphics card (at least 256mb)

There may be other things I left out, but I just wanted to go over the major ones. I am buying another copy of Windows Vista as well, but I already have it and I paid $110 for it, so deduct that from the $1,000 which leaves you $890.

I'm usually stuck on AMD, but I still don't know enough about Intel to make the bold jump to Core 2 Duo. Let me know what you think the best PC I can build for this price is.

Dude, are you serious? You just built him a socket 939. Thats the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. Not only is 939 PAST EOL (aka it is completely discontinued, end of lifespan), its ancient technology.

I'll find you a real build.

Thats $165 for the CPU and I did include it in the final price, I just mistyped in the post. The "final price" is the accurate amount that you would pay (pre-tax or shipping)

Um, why are you buying another copy of Vista?

What do you mean another copy? I only have one other copy, and it's already married to a different computer (not the one I'm selling).

Oh yeah, MS screw you with product activation. I stick with 98se and not having to 'activate' my software. Better yet, Apple sell OS X for either $129 single user or 5 user at $199. Now THAT is a good deal. Imagine having to buy Vista Ultimate 5 times...

I thought $65 is really cheap for a core 2, even a low-end one. Did you mean perhaps...$165?

Perhaps, your town may have a recycling depot. I dont mean to be cheap, but you can find some good stuff there. I've got 2 gigs of ram from there. And a 180 gigabyte hard drive. You can conserve some cash there and spend the money on better graphics or better processer.

I already checked into it. I know Charlotte, NC has one but that's really too far to drive to save a few bucks like that.

Tiger Direct is gotta be the cheapest place I've seen. I bought a barebone kit (cheap incomplete set with some crazy specs) back in November with rebates it ended up coming to like 160$. But I was too broke to buy the last two missing components, RAM and a HD (not that I would buy a new one anyway).

Intel is generally the better one, for video gaming.

Um? No it's not. In fact I can guarantee that Intel is better suited for office related uses while AMD is better for gaming.

Faggot. I have Vista installed via Boot Camp for games and VMWare Fusion for IE, used the same copy for both installs. The crack was easy as hell and works.

Bad idea. You shouldn't talk about piracy on the forums. It's in the rules.

Meh. I bought Vista and only installed it on one physical computer, I just cracked it because I'm not going to pay twice for something I regret paying the first $200 for.

Intels makes a true quad core with two 4 completely independand cores. I think, I stand to be corrected on this, but I think AMD uad core right now is to dual cores together, so each set of two shares the front side bus or something. I don't remember, but regardless, Intel at 3Ghz, four cores, AMD isn't even close. Don't bother arguing it, it's fact. This is farelly recent cause like about a year ago it was the opposite, but this is how it is now.

Actually the reason why AMD hasn't gone to true quad core yet is because AMD currently has processors that output the 'same' as the Intel quad's. Simple specs go check the AMD/Intel sites for a comparison. I just did this the other day when discussing the benefits of buying individual parts compared to ordering a premade comp.

Why don't you go look up some specs, tell me which AMD proc can surpass Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX6850, this baby can overclock to 4 ghz man. This thing is a behemoth. Absolute domination of the competition with it's new front side bus speed of 1333MHz.

I'll look into it later. I'm running late for school. :(

Now I'm not an intel fan, their older chips at motherboards and cracked them, but right now it's just a fact. In the top end market, Intel is th obvious winner. No questions asked.

I think your jumping to conclusions to soon because you refuse to ask questions.

Core 2's kill the dual core AMD's... However, the Quad core AMD's are fucking awesome, and beat the intel Quads (which are just 2 C2D stuck together).

Bollocks. Intel beats AMD in every possible way these days, from power consumption to performance.
AMD used to be better for gaming. That was about 4 years ago, when I built the computer I have now (yes, it's an AMD CPU).
