This is where your post went wrong
lol ah, but even then, the idea of "consciousness after death" contradicts Atheism ;].. I don't know, I guess whatever works for people. No one says they have to explain themselves or the inconsistencies in their ideals :[..
No it doesn't, many people have the wrong idea of what atheism really is. Take the word apart (not that theres much to take apart) A and theism. Theism is defined as belief in a god, A makes it negative, as in Belief in no god. That's it.
Atheism is belief in no god, and nothing more. Even though it is technically defined as a religion, it's not, because it's more of a single belief, one can be atheist yet still believe in an afterlife. As belief in a god is not needed for belief in an afterlife.
So where do athiests go when they die? It depends on the person, because atheism is a single belief that is accompanyed by many others to form what someones beliefs on existance are.
What can a thoughtful man hope for mankind on Earth, given the experience of the past million years? Nothing

Actually, logically, you'd put more importance in living if you don't believe in an afterlife. They should live life to the fullest, Religious people would have the mindset of an afterlife, so thus don't worry about living a full life as much as someone who thinks we rot in the ground.

If you ask someone who has got a job they like and a loving family life and spend their leisure time doing what they like, "what's the point in living," you're a fool. Life is to enjoy it, and try to be nice along the way.
Atheists go where everyone else goes when they die.

Yeah, but what is LIVING to you?
is it having material possessions or is it making the time you do have with your family and friends worth it?
Its it spending all day in NG or WoW or is it doing something helpful for the community?
Is it smoking pot and drinking with your buddies or is it keeping yourself healthy and fit?
Is it "Whatever, i do what i want!" or is it doing for others?
What is life all about to you?
are you saying religious people are lazy? that we dont care about life? COme on dude, if you think that, meh, thats just being ignorant.

Atheists die. We then rot in the ground, are cremated, or some other form of doing something with their body. Since there is not any "Spirit", we do not "go" anywhere.
There is a war going on in you're mind. People and ideas all competing for you're thoughts. And if you're thinking, you're winning.

Well, they might either rot in the ground, or go to limbo(if they are good, and if there is a limbo, and I'm not talking about the game with a stick).

What I think is that they'd just not be anymore. Instead of being (alive), they just wouldn't.
If there truly was a Hell or Heaven, they wouldn't believe it...they'd think they'd be caught ina dream/nightmare that never ended.

Indeed, religious people looking for a divine purpose in life miss out on a great deal by not understanding the true meaning of life. If you reckon God gives you a purpose, then you're nothing more than the purpose given to a knife, eg cutting bread. And if you reckon you've got a purpose in the afterlife, you could well be the toilet cleaner.

lol ^^...
listen, can anyone please EXPLAIN to me in further details about their "Atheistic" views? I'm not here to argue, just to understand. One of the golden rules in philosophy and religion is "arguing about what religion is right or wrong is taboo, and only leads to anger and spite." I just want further insight on your beliefs and point of views on existence. Because so far, I've seen one or two people come into this thread supporting Christianity and about 9 or 10 people hating them for it :/...

No it's not, that's a completely misconstrued thought. Atheism is simply the belief that there is no god, no more, no less.

come on cool points, they are hating christianity, they are only showing their belief that religion is useless. They arent saying christians are lame and stupid for believing (or whatever) they are respecting us, and giving their insight and thoughts, as those who are christians are doing.
lol i love it when people discuss religion....its a never ending conversation that usually ends in "ITs just what I believe"
I lol all the time at it.

I`m nopt going to take more time out of you young man, but love is important in evolutionary terms.
Love is the kew to our survival. Without love, mother would leave their childs to die. Etc...
Love is fundamental.

There's a big difference, because atheism is a singular belief, that can be accompanyed by other beliefs, or by a whole nother religion entirely (such as buddhist atheism). No atheism isn't a religion, it's just a belief.
