Aim/deadaim Question 2007-05-21 17:03:57 Reply

I have DeadAIM 4.5 installed for AIM 5.2
(incase you do not know, DeadAIM is a program that modifies AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) to add a handful of features. It's an older program and no longer being updated because all of the features it adds are now in AIM)

While the new AIM software (version 6) includes many of the features offered by DeadAIM, I prefer the older AIM client for a number of reasons (less resource heavy, more organized, much cleaner, faster, preferred template, etc.).

To conclude my scenario, I shall now begin to state my question:

AIM has now released a feature known as "Offline IMs" (ability to send an instant message to another user of the service while they are not signed on to AIM). With my older version of AIM, when I send an instant message to someone who is not signed on, an error message pops up stating that the user is offline and cannot recieve IMs.
**This error message pops up on my screen, it is not sent by AIM or stated anywhere within the AIM conversation. It pops up on my screen without needing to connect to anything.**

I want to know how to disable this window from popping up, allowing the IM to be sent and handled from there. Because the messages are saved to AOL's database full of offline IMs, so I believe if I can disable any blocks that are occuring locally from the program, I can have the message get through and then be handled by whatever function is used to save messages to sent to users not found to be signed on.

Basically, I'm looking for a patch or walkthrough on how to be able to allow offline IMing on AIM 5.2

THANK YOU!!!
~Jeremy

I really doubt it's possible, unless you somehow relay your conversations through a server running a more recent version of AIM... but that's far too complicated. Your only option is to install the official AIM client, because not even GAIM... I mean Pidgin IM.... can do it.
