I seem to recall a sexually risky furry flash which made it past judgment and was later deleted due to people complaining about it, finding it offensive, on a website which is supposably offensive. This is a site where pointless violence and mocking tragedies have front page status but if anything seems in bad taste sexually, it suddenly gets removed. Granted you guys do have an adults only section, so kudos to that. However, there certainly is a bigger green light for violence here than there is for sexual content, which seems remarkable stupid. Just what the world needs, more violence.

So, if allowing pointless violence, and flash which mocks tragedies, on this site makes Newgrounds great. Then not allowing overly sexual or controversial sexual material on Newgrounds makes you guys hypocrites.

Thank you Tom. I'm proud that I helped protect this game when it was first submitted not because I loved the idea behind it but based solely on its gameplay. Things come out on this site like Mr. Happyface or whatever the hell that is that are just sickly killing children and although this is based on a real life event I kind of treat it the same and am like eh whatever. It is in poor taste to make it about virginia tech but really to me its not that much worse than a lot of other stuff on here.

Yeah but newgrounds doesn't condone total free speech, they discriminate against anyone who speaks out against a subject they don't feel strongly about. This flash isn't bad at all, newgrounds isn't full of people wussy enough to complain about it so they won't take it off, but there are many instances when the mods or us newgrounders have discriminated against an opinion, and would not accept the points of view that were expressed.

Newgrounds has "selective speech" if they like it, then good, but if they don't, then too bad. This is simply hypocritical. Nothing against newgrounds, I'm an avid user and fan, but free speech is controlled here.

The sad thing is that the game is actually really crap - it's not even like a guy made a good engine and used this controversial issue as an outlet for it.

probebly not because it was offensive, it was most likey deleted due to being crap.

Movies have been removed from Newgrounds in the past because of their use of real names and/or real photos, so there's no solid foundation for saying this game *can't* be removed.

And while i'm not particularly offended by it -- or anything on the internet, for that matter -- i'm all for the rights of people to defend themselves against people like Lambourn who invade their personal lives and exploit the names of people they care about for attention.

You know, I understand for a fact that this is a free country. America was made based on the single principle that we ought to be able to do what we want to do, but when you have people like PiGPEN and that guy responsible for V-Tech, it makes me feel stupid living in this country. Everyone should have a choice in what they do, but if people abuse this right, start killing people, whatever, we really should just take this amendment away. Free choice of action and speech does not give you the right to go into a crowd of people and kill them, and the right to bear ams amendment is what is making me mad about that. Plus, if PiGPEN wants money, he should shut up, not try to take advantage of other people and work for it. Does he honestly think that people would actually give him money to take it down? We don't even know if he would take it down! Only a sick person would make a game to kill for others to enjoy. Give some respect for the victims and their families.

I do not like the game. imo the gameplay was lame, and it was in bad taste... but I see what you mean. He has a right for it to be up here.... won't change the way I rate it though.

What makes NG great...? Availability. Any person is allowed to put anything up... within reason. Obviously, there are some things that make many people upset, and should not be toutched on. Hell, this site contains many things that people would rather not see. But the straight fact is that this stuff is on here, and it gives this site the versatility to enjoy having the better things of NG.

Newgrounds does follow free speech and pretty close to it. The flashes that got taken down were possibly due to being blammed to death.

If people really don't like a flash, and it gets enough negative votes/reviews, what is the point of keeping dead weight?

As much as I agree on the right to free speech, I still found this game dispicable and insensitive toward the people whom have lost loved ones in that massacre. Everyone has the right to say what they want but theres a limit, and this game crossed the line. People are still mourning the loss of their family and friends and this game was released far too soon after the incedent. Sure as much fun as it is going around killing innocent people on a video game this was based on a real event and killing innocent people that actually existed is not cool in my opinion. Besides if you want to go kill innocent people thats what GTA was made for. Oh and I disagree with you Ross. What I believe makes Newgrounds great is the incredible flash movies and awesome music that we recieve each day.

But u seem to be missing the point. Whilst madness is waaaaaaaay more voilent than this game it wasnt based on a real event. People enjoy Madness because it is full of senseless killing and brutality. Hell the plot doesnt even make sense but people enjoy seeing an animated massacre. Besides the V-tech slaughter occured like only a month ago or something so of course it will raise some controversy. Also if a family member or friend of a victim saw this game they could sue Newgrounds. I say take the game off because I dont want one of my favorite sites shut down due to some jackass whom has no respect for the dead.

NG will never be shut down no matter what, Tom has worked way to hard for all these years to have this site taken away from him.

I hope Tom will save some for me. I have a friend who worked for take two but was layed off due to the fact that the company had spent so much in legal fees fighting off Jack Thompson. I would love to get back at Thompson for all the trouble he's caused.

Cant we try to be nice to people here? Personally I find it quite bizarre that anyone could find amusement in it. Although humour is not something we have a choice over. If we find something funny, we find it funny.

Regarding the case at hand, I think its simple;
Nothing should be automatically banned, the newground system allows us, the collective, to vote things down ourselfs.
If, on mass, we think something is exploitative, shit and purely there to get attention, we can just keep voting it down. Some sort of cut-off score should delete things after a certain number of votes.

Remember, everything is a balance of rights.
Freespeach is a right that should never automatically be taken away.
However, the families and friends of the victims also have rights, imo, to be respected and not too have their horrors used for the entertainment and ego of others.

Which right is more...err.."right" is upto us to choose.
But we shouldn't forget that its a balance, not a clear cut thing.
