I don't know how many of you are gamers here, but I've been one since Kindergarten and have had to listen to quite a few rants on the subject over the years and was wondering if anyone else here had an opinion on this. Particularly non-gamers since a lot of these rants have been from people who've never gamed in their life.

Buddy Jesus!
Video Games aren't bad, no matter what the Senators say. I think, when I run, I'll do so on a Pro-Gaming platform as was suggested. That is, as long as no rumors about inserting Alabama ever arise from Ol' Shrikey.

Uh, Judge, I think that Shih was talking about role playing games...you know like Dungeons and Dragons...not an anctual video game...so, uh, yeah, what do you think about role playing?
Shih, all I have to say is that everyone wants to play D&D, yet I have been trying to find people to play Vampire: The Masquerade, no one wants to play that...which fucking blows goats, yeah, d and d is cool, but I like Vampire better. So, either way, I am in favor of roleplaying...(especially in the bedroom) >:)

Hell if I know what's going on, I just assume all video game threads are about how people think they're bad.
Yeah, games are fun. Nation States.

Hell yeah! I'm a gamer, I've also study the debate for years, and own numerous books on the subject, the laugh out loud funniest is "Playing with Fire". I suggest you check out the "Dark Dungeons" tract under no longer published, here.

Something tells me I should have figured cannibal to be one of the "Vampire" crowd. You don't run around in the park at night, do you? If so, that'd be just the saddest thing ever. When a D & D gamer/nerd (such as myself) makes fun of you, you really need to reconsider what you've been doing with your life. It's like the social hierarchy in high school filtered down to the nerdy guys playing D & D at the bottom, and then they turn around and give the pseudo-goths a wedgie. You know what I mean?
That being said, if you play Vampire on a table-top, it's pretty cool, but not really my style. If I had to go the route of White Wolf, I'd pick Wraith, or Mage.

My only problem with White Wolf is the d10 system, my god, it's great for easy converting, but it's mindnumbingly unversatile. I do play Aberrant, but I think I'm the only one in the world who still does....

No way, man! I love(d) that game!
I can never find anyone to play it with, anymore. I only played a few times, and then the GM up and moved to Washington.

Nah, I never played Shadowrun. I've done some Rifts games...
You know with a couple of gamers, and IMs. I'd imagine we could get some kind of NG group going.
Oh, and all you White wolfers will love this.

I never bothered with Changeling, though my friend plays on Yahoo. He's got a focused hobo who uses a frog as the source for his power. Or something...

Alright, alright, that's enough. Back to the topic at hand. I think that a lot of people just fall into the crowd mentality of "fear what you don't understand." Kids can turn into whackos by playing D & D no more or less then people who sit around playing "Bible Adventures" for the NES (Worst game ever...*shudder*).

I liked Bible Adventures, the Baby tossing part was great. Yeah, people fear what they don't understand, and they can talk to my +3 sword of clubbing. That's a seperate story however.

Abberant Is the best game that White wolf has made yet. I used to think that I was the only one who played it. I've found a few people around where I live to start playing it.

I liked Aberrant, but I thought Trinity was better. Don't even want to fuck with my cryokineticist man.
On another note has anyone ever played Obsidian, damn that game is cool, ridiculously complex combat system though.

I'm a gamer! ANything from RPG's, fighting games (LOVE Tekken), or something as stupid and childish as Pokemon, I love my games. *hugs her PS1* I specialize in violent games though (never would've guessed that, huh?) It's a great way for me to release my aggression in a non-destructive way. Otherwise, I'd probably rip apart my room and then burn the house down. Or maybe attack my friend's step-fucker... *cough* I mean step-father. ^_^

Sure, I know what you mean, you can call me a pseudo-goth all you want, it really don't bother me. Yeah, I know not many people play Vampire, everyone plays d&d, wow, big woop, I choose to play and associate myself with a darker set of individuals, not wanna be wizards or mages. I'm not trying to start a war here, just saying, I like Vampire, and no I don't hang in the park in the dark...who would do that? A graveyard in the dark...that is different...but who doesn't do that?

I bought a PSone at the beginning of the year, just to show you how retarded I am on the whole video game scene. Dont even get me started with those extra complicated board games.

Whoa. I never realized fellow Christians (I am one in case you wondered) had such an unenlightened attitude towards D&D. I never played it, but I know a guy who is a DM and he said that he would get me in a game. It's silly that fundamentalist Christians oppose themselves to anything that happens to be popular at the moment. I have heard that everything from Bugs Bunny, to the Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, and Pokemon are all the devil. They are not the devil! Someone told me that they are just trying to not let anything be more important than God. Well, it would help if my more strict Christian bretheren were more honest and just said that. I already know I have to keep God #1 in my life, and I don't need spiritual McCarthyism tying me down.

One of the more confusing arguements I ever heard a Christian use was that becuase D&D has references to demons in it, it was obviously satanic. The main point of D&D is to be a hero and oppose the forces of evil.

I'll tell you, greatest RPG of all time: Final Fantasy VII. Best so far for PS2 that I've played has got to be Xenosaga, even though you spend more time watching it than playing it.
I went through that Ultima Online phase, too. Let's not talk about it.

Man though, it's amazing how much time Ultima sapped out of me that I now donate to Nation States. Even though NS has its massive flaws, I suppose it's all right for quelling the thirst for RPG until Final Fantasy X-2 comes out.

I used to be a pretty big gamer, but then I got into music really heavily. Instead of buying video games, I buy studio equipment. $500 for a stand-alone CD recorder, $300 for Microphones, a G for a 16-04 VLZ pro Mackie board. But when I tell people,"I have my own studio" they are a lot more impressed than if I said,"I have all the major game platforms ($700) and a shitload of games ($50 a pop). Plus, now that I have good equipment, people pay ME to play with my toys. You just cant beat live sound, not even with a big stick.
