You are correct. Another quote from the movie was "1000 nations of the persian empire descend upon you". You see various asian countries other than persia itself fight against the spartans in the movie. Those guys were ninjas because the guys who made 300 wanted to show a variety of fighting styles fitting the different countries. I'm not 100% sure on this but I think the japanese were the first to invent fireworks, rockets and other explosives and in 300 they had explosives. Nuff said.
