My girlfriend is French Canadian, I enjoy French culture and generally like the country of France.

But in my experience it is true that a lot of French tend to be rotten assholes, to smell, to have bad teeth etc... Also, I think their view of the world is very isolated and wacky, they basically rewrite history to glorify everything France has done, and ignore everything bad France has done.

Talk about WWII and basically they will say "mistakes were made at first, but then we fought the Germans and kicked them out of France". They will make no mention to the fact that after only several days of fighting at the onset of WWII, the German Army was sipping coffee in Paris and fucking French women after the French got their asses kicked and surrendered. They will make little reference to the fact that they were liberated, they will instead say that everyone else just helped a little.

New France ceased to exist decades before the US was formed, and New France was a very, very small populous colony, they didn't pwn my country. Unless of course you're confusing the American CONTINENT with the nomenclature 'America' for the United States. It's just that a lot of public schools don't put emphasis on international studies/history because most Americans don't care and tend to disregard it because they don't see it as useful to their future careers. So Americans don't really get in-depth history study until they get serious about it in College.

Our society tends to look inwards instead of outwards. That's because the world tends to focus on the US as well. It's not arrogance it's just how it goes. There are some people that know more about the US than they know about their own country, so theres no surprise that Americans tend to focus on the US more so than they do the rest of the world.

The country of FRANCE helped the US in the Revolutionary War against the British Empire, not New France.

And the French bitch and moan about working more than any other country. This is even though they have no more than a 35-hour workweek, which is usually shorter than that. Americans work 46-hour workweeks on the other hand, and whine much less.

I'm a French Australian, I think that most French people are fine (depends on the area).
For example, if you go to Paris, they're total assholes, but I wouldn't blame them, they have really crappy weather over there and they work like crazy. In any case, the French from down south are very friendly.

Maybe you should read a history book. The French were vital in that they supplied Americans with rifles, but they didn't enter the war with troops until the end. And even then, that was only in conventional battles. The vast majority of military victories in the American Revolutionary War was in gorilla tactics, and small incursions by American civilian militia. The large battles at the end were really just the last throes of the British, and a chance for the French to actually fight the kind of war they liked, and not get involved in the gorilla war that preceded it.

It is a dramatized movie mind you... but it is not historically inaccurate in the underlining account of the war as a whole. The main characters were exaggerated of course, but the movie didn't rewrite history, they added a sub-plot to a historical event for entertainment purposes.

Actually the US did win mostly by itself because the US negated all the advantages the Brits had at the time by using unconventional tactics.

Americans didn't fight in straight rows with matching uniforms, they didn't rely on technology, numbers, or heavy equipment. Americans had more proficient tactics in sabotage, ambush, sniping etc... The US targeted British officers which disrupted their chain of command, the US destroyed British supplies, attacked British food sources etc.. that is why the US won. The US fought with modern tactics against an enemy that was still fighting based on 16-17th century doctrine.

In France, even in the history books, they say that the French defeated the Germans by themselves thanks to the resistance movement led by Charles De Gaulle.

It's easy to neglect the importance of your allies.
I mean, the French were split into two groups; those who didn't care if they got invaded, and those who did. Now the person in power at the time was willing to accept German occupation so he didn't fight back, he just surrendered because he didn't want a bloodbath. In the end, the "resistance" didn't like the idea and so they (the French) pushed the Germans out of France from the south.

^ Now that is the OFFICIAL account of how the French got rid of the Germans.

In actual fact, I'm sure there would have been a lot of assistance from allies. But that's left out.

So My guess is that it's the same thing in the United States, the history books are written in such a way that it embellishes the US more than it deserved. Nevertheless, the US would have been nothing without the weapons supplied by France.
