I believe that religion forces people to act way too proper, and influences things that might not even be helping people gain entrance into heaven (granted there is one), such as praying, or forcing people to always wear clothes because it's "indecent".

I believe we should use the "Whats Mine Is Yours" philosophy.

What this means is that there is no possessions. People make things, use them, and also let anyone use them anytime they want. If everyone does this, it will create a circle of sharing, and no one will be hungry, unsheltered, or unnecessarily rich (also granted that no one is a jerk and destroys stuff for the hell of it, or tries to rise to power). This will also end war and conflict.

I think this is a good idea, no?

Not bad, I'm crossed between Agnostic and Atheist. I can't pick my side yet because I'm still defining if the 8 years of religon class/church put the thought of god/afterlife in my head, or if I believe in it.

I see Religon as the weak man's shield. Everyone want's happy thoughts, like God will watch over you and protect you, like the whole "Thank god I survived that car crash" shit, or the idea that you will see your friends/family in heaven when you die so you wont feel lonely.

That's just my stance

Tbh if I wanted to be loved by an imaginary friend I would invent one. Loving relationshiops are so much more fulfilling than one you can't deny is invented in your head.

I am catholic myself and I can say, religion is made up so people wont do evil things. Like, do not steal, do not kill, don't be envy of someone, etc. Not following these rules will get you in hell, now we don't want that, eh?

Religion has been used to do great and terrible things.

Atheism has a small group of people that want to shit on everyones' achievements, and think that people that believe in God are idiots, even though it's just an opinion.

It's not that I have no opinion, it's that whatever I use to defend myself will easily be fought off by some douche I can't beat because he's so much cooler than me for some reason.

I suppose that would be a better way of saying it.

Any religeon can be a good one provided it's not the kind that's based on some book that insists that everyone believe in it. I'm not a fan of overzealous Christians or athiests for that one reason, since there's no real proof for either. Granted that the atheist prediction seems a bit more likely if you consider it a matter of probability, but even then it's just speculation, and The idea of nothingness after death isn't exactly a positive thing. I read a salvia experience off Erowid once that did a pretty good job of explaining what that would be like, and heaven seems to be more optimistic overall.

I'm one of those as well, so he's not alone. And I've met Christians that don't give two shits about anything, they use their "belief" in a God to justify their actions.

Some people think cities are beautiful I think the natural land is beautiful. I'd rather be out camping enjoying nature.

Here here. Both are great in my book.

I'm sure He does't choose my reactions to the world. But he helped me decide.

Ah, I can't engage upon here, because when I rationalize with people I tend to do it with the general acceptance that Christianity is "bullshit", for the lack of a less demeaning term, and I'm too tired to take the perspective of someone Christian. So I hope you'll excuse me here.

I feel lucky. I really do. I feel lucky that He would create me, that He decided I'm worthy for this world. I feel loved and appreciated. All you feel is that you're tough enough to survive. But I am not blasting your decision. It's very logical. All I'm saying is that you're missing out on the greatest love.

The greatest love, in this case, is a purely psychological function, which, by chance, how do you know we don't achieve it through different means? Perhaps it's not the exact same, but perhaps it's equally rewarding?

I don't believe you'll go to hell.

I have great respect for you then. You are an example of the intelligent, reasonable Christians that makes my faith in Christianity not quite reach rock bottom.

I just think you're missing out on how great it feels to be loved by someone so much.

I think you're mistaken, my boy.

People just have their own beliefs. If they trust their own religious ways, let them go with it. If they choose to be atheist, just let them be. It's all a matter of either opinion or logic with some people.

Amen, hallelujah. Everyone can have their own beliefs which get them by, as long as their beliefs don't become imposed upon others or lead towards harming others.

This is a logical creed that we can all agree on, is it not? Atheist, theist, and, to a lesser degree, Agnostic alike?

The fact that it's merely his belief is entirely implied if it's not distinctively stated. Read his post, and you'll realize that it's not factual.

But then again, what is fact?

First off, Atheism is a religion so the "can the religion" doesn't mean much. Why are you telling people to shutup about their religion when you just posted all that about yours?

Secondly, if you are going to call yourself an Atheist, I seriously recommend reading this. Knowing what it is really helps. I thought for a while that I was an atheist, then i read that and decided that I may just be completely non-religious. People are too quick to call themselves Atheists just because. Maybe it's for attention, maybe to piss people off, maybe because they honestly aren't sure about god and such things. Anyway, that link has some good stuff, worth reading if you truly want to know where you stand and if you are really an atheist.

I enjoyed reading your post :D

First off, Atheism is a religion so the "can the religion" doesn't mean much. Why are you telling people to shutup about their religion when you just posted all that about yours?

So, let me get this straight: Being completely devoid of religion makes one religious? Get your terms straight.

Secondly, if you are going to call yourself an Atheist, I seriously recommend reading this. Knowing what it is really helps. I thought for a while that I was an atheist, then i read that and decided that I may just be completely non-religious. People are too quick to call themselves Atheists just because. After having read Earfetish's posts for the past three or so years, I can say with faith that he does not call himself an atheist to gain attention. Nor do I. I'll speak for myself in this case though.

I don't particularly care for the term "atheist" due to the negative connotation that coincides with it often, and whenever someone asks what I believe in I'll tell them, or if it's relevant to the conversation at the time. I won't go around going "LOL I'M AN ATHEIST RELIGION IS 4 STOPITDS!" though.

I am an atheist because I do not believe in a higher power. No deity. No religion. I believe in many philosophies that can be extracted from religions and philosophic doctrines, but I don't believe in any supreme being of any sort to attempt to explain what I don't understand.

Capice?

I agree Atheists don't need a faith to enjoy life. My Mother who is Christian has argued with me on many occasions that everyone needs something to believe in to keep them on solid ground. But I've thought long and deeply about it and the only thing I believe in is myself, I don't need a higher being to watch over my life and help me in timed of hardship.

That's because we Christians don't even bother with whining about other people's beliefs. We accept that not all people will choose to be saved, and let others have their own beliefs.
It works both ways.
Please, don't start something.

LOL! Christians don't push their religion on others?
That's been happening since...forever.
You let others have their own beliefs...like that time that you invaded other countries and fought wars because you were trying to convert people who's beliefs weren't those of the Christian religion? Go take a history class, American Imperialism. Social reform had everything to do with Christians trying to push their religion onto everyone else. They wanted everyone to be just like them...kinda like Hitler. And yes, it definitely still happens today.

What I meant is that the poster was implying that Christians are okay, provided they don't force their views on others.
By pointing out that Atheists make more topics about religion than Christians, I was saying that Atheists on NG are the ones forcing their views on others.
