Real friends vs Online friends 2003-05-24 00:17:15 Reply

ja so this is a lame question, but im curious as to what people think. i have a bunch of real life friends, and i also have a ton of friends online too. the sad part is, though, that the majority of people i meet online are actually cooler than the ones i meet in real life. like even if the people i talk to online are losers, they still dont seem as bad as my real life buds. of course real friends are better than ones over the net, but i think i get to know people online on more of a personal level than i do with people i meet in real life. online, everyone tells you so much about themselves, where in real life you have to pry and pry to get anything out of anybody.

anyway, who do you like better? do you have more fun hanging out with your buds at a party, or out cruisin? or do you get a kick out of chatting it up with someone you dont even really know? express your opinions here.

My real life friends are a little more annoying but I love all my friends the same. I just feel that I can say more here and get away with it because if I were to say a few things that I said here to my friends, they might get annoyed with me. On the forums, I'm a little more honest than I'd like to be, but it still feels good to get all that crap out.

I dont like talking to people on like for a friendship, cause they can tell me whatever the heavan they want, They could be lieing straaight to me and I would have no clue, So I think "real life friends" that are able to be seen without the aid of a compueter screenare better

I prefer real-life friends, of course, I really don't have many online friends. You really can't do anything with somebody that you'll only know online; whereas with a real friend, you can usually chat with them online also.

Most of my online friends are my real friends, like biteme. We cruise around alot and go get high, you can even ask biteme.

Interesting question, but for me its a no-contest. I like reallife friends better, because I can do things with them. We can go play basketball, other sports, to the movies whatever. I can't do that with online friends.

I prefer real friends - I don't really know that much about any online people, cause I kind of get annoyed when people try to confide with me over the net and I don't even know them... I'm not there to be a free counselor.

Ummm, that's all, yeah! Real people rule!

ya that is whats so weird. i know loads of online people. not all from NG either, but from a bunch of places ive been. quite a few of the people i talk to i know for real, but most are just aquaintences or peopls from NG. i consider a lot of the people i talk to as close friends, and i tell them stuff that id tell any real life friend i trust.

Well since about 95% of you live halfway across the world from me, I'll say I prefer real-life friends although they're not as cool as you all.

i like to have both kinds because i feel more open online, but i can actually do stuff with real life friends. if i could meet all my online friends in person that would be great because i could actually do somethin instead of just talk. then if i could talk to reallife friends online without knowing who they were that would be cool too since you could tell them stuff and not be all imbarassed.

I've only got like 2 online friends. I like real-life friends more because I feel I know them on a much more personal level then I do with people I meet online. Don't get me wrong, meeting new friends online is great too, I just don't meet many.

Hello soulrifter.
I think that's just an impression.
But online, you have the possibility to REALLY know the person you are talking to (except if he/she's playing a role or whatever like a real loser). So online, making real cool frenz is kinda better, specially girls. They are cool and comprehensive.
In real life, it's not the same...
Virtual people seem nicer than the other ones.
But we don't have to be blinded by that, keep in mind that you can feel the real ones, but can't the virtual ones...

oh well definitely man. i wouldnt trade my real friends for anything. i was just kind of wondering what other people thought. ive met so many interesting people online, and ive gotten to know a lot of those people too. most ive never seen a pic of even, but it doesnt matter. also, getting to know girls on a personal level instead of obssessing over their physical appearance is a cool experience.

I totally agree.
That's the best thing about meeting people online, I mean... girls.
I quickly fall in love with these people, fuck the physical appearance and all, it's just their mental that interests me at that point... That's why I went out with lots of interesting girls on the net, all of them lived near me, and I did meet some, it was fascinating... Cause once you get to trully know the person, their appearance doesn't even count a bit. That's cool.
That's why I love to meet girls online. But most of the time, when you meet guys, and you're a guy, they're like the sickest, stupidest, more boring dudes ever... Their only wish is to talk to "hot" girls and shit...
Anyways ... I agree with joo about the girl thingy.
And neither will I, change my real friends for some online ones. :-)

i think real-life friends are better. as someone mentioned before, you can trust real-life friends more, its easier to tell when they are lying. not to say online-friends arenn't bad but its easier for them to decieve you.

i have many online friends and i trust them a lot, we talk alot and it i've come to know them as i would a real-life friend. but you always have to stop and think if they are lying or not. for this i just use my better judgement for what sounds farfetched and what seems realistic.

holly crap that is a no brainer!i mean i really like some of he people online, but if i had to choose never to chat with them again, or nevere to see my freinds again, i would throw my computer out the window in a second then i would piss on it. how can you ask something like that? i mean chating is cool and all, but can you sneek out with it at night? and if you kiss your computer do you feel anything except stupid? my freinds mean a whole lot to me, you can not replace contact and human emotion.

Personally...I don't really have any online friends, cause I'm too mean and moody to bother trying to make them.

Actually...I have a few...I lied...but, like Brainy Boy said, Real Friends > Online Friends.

Although, I have met some really cool people online, and I've done webcamming/voice chat with them...so, all that's left is to meet face to face.

It's actually a bit more tougher than expected.

For instance, if say you have a bad rep at school, get picked on, or whatever, then you come online, and suddenly, you are cool! Everyone loves you! No one bugs you cause you are short, or have braces, or acne, or whatever. You are one of the cool kids now!

Then you go back to school, and your life is a living hell. Those are the people who like online friends better than real friends.

It's quite an interesting concept. A lot of people are different online, than offline, so they excel more in the online social ladder.

A long time ago, back in my Yahoo Chat days, I valued my internet friends FAR more than my real-life friends. But all those friendships have kind of vanished because people got bored of it. I never met any of my internet friends in real life although I did talk to most of them on the phone regularly. There are a few problems that arise with internet friendships. Sure, your not eye to eye so it's easier to share your deepest secrets with one another. But you can never tell if they are being completely honest with you, I admit I had a few run ins with people pretending to be other people and I will never be certain of whether the people I spoke to were ever who they say they were. Also at the fact there r 2 main points of a friendship, informative contact and physical contact. The informative is the talking and stuff which is EASIER online, I admit, but it is also POSSIBlE in real life and easy if you let it be. The physical is pretty much what it says. You can't cuddle your internet friends or see they're facial expressions or anything.
In the short-term, internet friends are great if you feel like pourin your heart out without too many strings attatched, but really it's better if there's someone who's known you for a long time, who knows your bad habits and can give you a hug if you feel upset and can give you a shoulder to cry on literally.
Now I prefer my real life friends.(no offence guys :P)

Can you hug online friends?

No.

Can you have se...I mean...uh....hmm. Cuddle time with online friends?

No.

While real friends are often better and closer, there are a few friends I've made online that have become great offline friends, too. And there's still others that I can talk to a little more openly than my real time friends, because of the simple anonymity of it.
