thank you all. But really I am not going back to this project! It is a class with a very strict schedule. If you have advice please don't TELL me to do these things, because I can't. Just give me general advice for any future projects I will have based on what you have taken from my posts.

On that note it seems you guys don't think I have spent enough time animating it. I agree. I only had 4 hours! This being my 2nd attempt with Maya its not that bad is it?

if you don't have anything interesting to say, don't say anything at all

no, now bad with maya at all, but you do need to get to know the 12 principles of animation, it'll greately improve your work when animating

a fighter for a game ive been working on for the past month, pretty much all the enemys in this game are done this way. anyway i usually just like building them so they are all more detailed then they need to be, this one is just a wip. but i love the shape of it. anyway here it is. space fighter.

I realize you're just starting out falz, but one of the best bits of advice I can give is to learn to stop making excuses. Your excuses were perfectly normal, and probably unavoidable, but employers could really care less. They don't care if your grandma died, they just want it done on time and looking awesome.

You'll probably get into a job where you've only got 4 hours to make something professional, on some software you've never even heard of, and that's what you're training for.

actually that is about industry standard. It's not uncommon to have to model a character, all it's gear, a functional and complicated background, all unwrapped, entirely rigged, already lit, and ready for animation all in about 1 to 3 days. considering that all the research notes and reference is ready. if not you''ll have to do all those as well.

Not easy, but if you have the drive, it's worth it. >.>....and if your working for a studio, it'll be all done on their computers which can also be very out of date sometimes

I recently made an animation and submitted it to YouTube. It also features a music artist from our own Audio Portal. Here's the link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeuK I3vkRSk

Hope you enjoy and thanks very much! (Pic below is from linked animation)

well it wasn't bad. But it could have been more fast paced. Don't worry about the physics of space, with it being Science Fiction. you could easily make stuff up.
And go for a few sound effects, the music alone kind of broke it.
still looked nice, just needs some tweaks.

Come to think of it I should post more of my animations

i loved the design of the ships very stylized, although I did find it a little slow too, I really liked the attention to detail like the correct thruster being fired etc, what was the render time on that?

Actually, the wrong thruster fired to stop rotation... I finally realized that when I watched it for the 10th time... blast.

Anywho, each 10-12 sec shot took about 1 hr to render. The work was definetely in the modelling.

I'll draw up another with the same models and it should be a little quicker (read: rather more fast).

I gotta agree, it's the rendering that will kill you, especially when you get in to advanced materials like raytrace. sadly it's one of my favorite materials to play with so my renders take about 1 to 5 minuets to render each frame. also sadly I'm a high poly modeler, which doesn't help either.
So I feel the burn as well.
still nice stuff you got.

This took me about 3 to 4 hours to make, although it would have probably only took me 2 hours if I didn't have to render it every time I wanted to preview it. Here is the full pic.

either way I'm having some trouble believing that this is your work. What proof do you have saying it is your work.

kinda seemed obvious since I doubt anyone with that amount of experience with 3D would take a whole year to make that. I mean, it's the same model in different colors and poses, that shouldn't take more than a month to make

He did make me lol a bit

I don't consider myself too experienced, but all that would in theory take less than a few weeks. Long hours yes, but not a year.... I shudder to think of something that takes that long *looks at a pixar film* D:

some people can model a guy in a day to a week, depends on the character, but mostly the person. But that chick was just imported into poser... and well... posed. Quick CG artists normally have a base mesh they tweak, then bring into zbrush, give the guy character etc.

Here's my first attempt at using Cinema 4D:
Yes, I realize it's quite simple, but I liked how it turned out.
Working on more complex stuff as I'm typing this.
So more will be coming.

here is my next project(my final). The lighting is kinda bad and I didn't really spend much time mirroring the object. my next post will be the completed model. any suggestions?

Not bad I like it, but it looks like your forearm is detached from your upper arm, but it could just be the lighting.
Also Here is a render of one of my new characters for a short animated cartoon I'm working on with a small team (me and one other o.0')
It's no where near done and I don't want to post much yet, but I will eventually. Since I'm pretty much modeling everything I'm wanting to keep it a to my self for a quite bit.

I never realised you had this done, haha! You shoulda' said, and I would have timed the music perfectly to the animation. Anywhooo, great work!

This is a quick 2 day progress shot for a freelance Job Im working on, the door and large gates have been proposed to be changed, I've still got loads to do on it. It's not to be a realistic render with dirt etc, but meant to almost show the potential of what to expect.
