As much as I could care less about 30 people who died in a continent several hours away from me, it doesn't help the situation any more to say so. In fact when there's several other people here already giving their condolences, saying "it's very hard for me to become emotionally attached to something that does not affect me" just makes you look like a troll.

Now, putting all levity aside, this is a terrible tragedy. I just can't help and look at how close this date is to 4/20, the day of the Columbine Massacre.
Here I am, bored with everything.

Ok, ending the gun control arguments.
1.The reports I saw said he had two 9 mm handguns. If he lacked a prevous record they could have easily been bought legally.
2. Yes he did that much damage with handguns. This says that you don't need machine guns to kill lots of people so you plain don't need them.
Now focus on the matter at hand

MORE UPDATES: Latest I heard is that they have trouble identifying him because he blew his face off - well, I'm assuming that - what they actually said was his face was "disfigured beyond identification". Eyewitnesses claim that he was an Asian male in his twenties, armed with two handguns and was wearing a "vest" (bulletproof?) underneath a black leather jacket. He was also wearing a maroon baseball cap. His fingerprints came up clean and he was not carrying any ID or a cellphone. That is the Norris Building shooting. Police are not even sure yet whether there was another shooter - they are examining the shell casings from both shootings.

That's the personal responcibility of the security personel and those responsible for employing and training them. It's not political.

HA! That's total bullshit! Where do you get this crap info from anyway?
Switzerland has a very high gun count per capita, yet they have very little crime. Now look at Washington D.C.. This city is the most gun-restrictive place in the country and, not surprisingly, it's also one of the most dangerous places in our country. The biggest myth about gun control is probably that it lowers crime, which it does not.

I wonder If this guy was genuinely pissed off or if he was trying to "1-up" the Columbine shooting. Either way it's a sad sad day in America.
I think that the saddest thing about this is tommorow people going to schools all over the country are still going to be assholes to each other, since nobody is going to learn anything from this. I'm not saying everyone needs you go around being nice all the time but you know what I mean.
I think the worst thing about this shooting is now schools are going to go over the edge when it comes to things like this, you know, things like getting expelled for even saying "shoot".

I do not find the political part sad. I find the lack of training and the responsibility of the security team sad. I thought that security was supposed to protect, not just as a deterring method.

They couldn't do that because they were hiding outside of the buildings in defensive positions for basically the whole ordeal. This was Columbine all over again except at a much higher degree. The cops just sat outside and allowed the gunman time to prey on his victims because that is what the usual doctrine entails. But it makes no sense to do that because usually cops are supposed to cordon the area in order to contain the criminal, but allow for negotiations. But that doesn't work when the criminal's entire motive is to kill as many people as possible and end their own life.
What the cops should have done was immediately assail the gunman to end it as fast as possible.

I'm thinking that he meant what a nice way to celebrate the absence of the assault weapons ban. Even though the weapons used today wouldn't even have been banned under the Clinton AWB anyway.

I won't get into it though, because some asshole who thimks he knows everything is garunteed to oppose me. Anyway, I hate that things had to come down to this, and me condolences go out to those involved.

Such a waste of life.
22 people who hadn't even grown up to see life for all it could be worth. I know deaths happen all over the World every day, so before anyone goes off on a tangent about that, forget it.
Isn't it actually against the law not to have a fire arm in Virginia? It's friggin crazy that people are actually able to bare arms so freely. It's like fighting fire with fire. Although futile, I hope this never happens again.
My deepest sympathies to the families of those lost in such a needless, tragic way.

Didn't say you were trying to act nonchalant, although my wording probably implied it and for that I apologise. Besides that, it doesn't seem like you have a lot to offer to the thread besides your nonchalance, and repeatedly stating as such is even less helpful.
In what way could I possibly be a troll. So I'm not affected by this story, I can't post here?
The definition of a troll is someone who posts deliberately offensive or challenging posts with the intention of causing arguments. Look, when you keep saying "I'm not affected by this", it flies in the face of the other people who post here who ARE somewhat affected by this. That's why I said your argument makes you look like a troll.
Plus it hasn't been that long since the incident, so we're better off saying nothing at all if we have nothing sympathetic to say. People are still torn up by Columbine and 9/11 so it's a dodgy issue.

What i don't understand is how 30something is the WORST shooting spree massacre thing in American history. I was thinking today in lecture that, out of the 170 people in the room, if I pulled out an automatic I could hit at least 80. How do they only kill 30 people.
I do not condone killing.
