Indeed, this thread is largely trainwrecked. Shit for the students. I kinda understand the mindset of spree killers, it's very much a 'fuck the world' suicide. But it's disgusting, anyone who would kill people like that has something very wrong with their worldview and morals and mental state.

I for one, cannot understand spree killers. Why is it nessesary to take other people who don't have the "fuck the world" mindset out with you?

I live quite close to Virginia Tech and it's the only thing on the news here (Christiansburg is around 10 miles from Blacksburg). =o

And I hate to say it, but guns don't kill people, people kill people. I don't think the problem lies in the fact that guns are around, though it obviously is part of the reason the casualties are so high. The high publicity of shootings has created a model for others to follow, so that each shooting is substantially worse and spawns copycats. It is a social issue, not a gun-control issue. If people weren't put down and oppressed the way they are in this country, it woudn't be a problem.

You know, what pisses me off about this is the response by the Police. The Police are now supposed to respond immediately and try and neutralize the threat due to the lessons learned in Columbine and other shootings. But It seems as if the police were too afraid to do anything and just sat outside of the school in defensive positions while the gunman had time to round up students and execute them.

Since these kinds of shootings are done by people whose GOAL is to kill, rather than negotiate, the police are supposed to try and kill the gunman as quick as possible. But I'm seeing all kinds of footage and eye witness accounts on the news and the police did jackshit for 2 hours, they just sat behind trees or behind cars like fucking cowards. This gave the gunman time to kill as many people as he did.
