I heard that one of the witnesses was a columbine survivor. Talk about irony.

The killers at Columbine didn't seem very interested in killing people after a certain point. They actually shot at more inanimate object than people while wandering the halls during the last half of their rampage. Cho seemed very intent on taking out as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.

Often university rooms classrooms do not have windows and I know that for a lecture hall of 200 people there are only 2 entrances in most of them.

Oh, yeah, less than 24 hours after the shooting, "Wacko Jacko" Thompson said that he knew violent video games were behind this. Later it was revealed that Wacko Jacko was wrong. So as long as jack thompson made an ass out of himself, the shooting wasn't that bad.

Ya, including the killer(Chao). I also blame the president of the school for leaving the school open after the first two people got killed. He assumed he just wanted to kill his girlfriend, and everyone else was safe. Guess what, he was wrong, and cost another 30 people there lives! There was no reason for that school to have not gone under lock down.

Yeah! I heard about it!

There was like 2 hours between the two first murders and the shooting in the school... they could have all left the school.... thats so fucking sad...

I have a buddy that goes to V Tech, on NG he has an account called intrik2 (I think that's what it's called), and he told me that a lot of the classrooms lock on the outside of the door, and that was one of the reasons why the German teacher, and students, got killed.

you probably would of gotten shot trying to do that. virginia tech has a policy against concealed weapons, which is kind of retarded, but i'm actually pretty surprised that nobody had a gun. 9mm won't really kill someone unless you hit something important, but fuckers are handy. you could go redneck and carry a sawed off under your coat, but that's a bit conspicuous.
that only really works if you're gonna do a vigilante killing. and then you need a wad of money to carry around

I feel very sorry for that person then,Imagin going through two of the worst tragedies in us history,I wouldn't be surprised if that person was in therapy.

Well... if you didnt see anybody getting killed... its not like if it was gonna affect you very much.
Just being in the school during the shooting is not really disturbing... well maybe a little... but not enough to go in therapy.

My city has pretty loose gun laws, and we have a very small murder rate.
I noticed you mention this earlier and remember thinking, gee I could have sworn that I heard statistics before stating that Texas had a fairly high murder rate. So I took a look, and maybe it's just a coincidence that the first 5 links I checked out stated that Texas has a murder rate almost consistently double of that of Washington's.

Dude, are you on crack?... Let me make this easy for you; You do realize that 'District of Columbia" is Washington D.C. right? That's where the President lives in that big white house. Washington D.C. (a federal district) is different from Washington State, where I live on the other side of the country. You know, Washington.. with Seattle, all the rain, the home of Nirvana, South Garden, Alice in Chains, Jimi Hendrix, Microsoft, Starbucks etc...

So if Texas has such a low murder rate, specifically when compared to Washington could you provide your sources? I'll keep looking... just to give you the benefit of a doubt.

YOUR OWN SOURCE

Take a look. Texas DOES have a much lower murder rate than Washington D.C, about 6 times lower:

#1 District of Columbia (Washington D.C mind you) : 3.597 per 10,000 people

Washington D.C. (which is a federal district, not a state) has the tightest gun control laws in the entire country (all guns are illegal) yet it has the HIGHEST murder rate.

#16 Texas : 0.597 per 10,000 people

Texas has very, very lax gun laws as I'm sure you're aware. It has about 1/6th the murder rate as Washington D.C and is at number 16.

#33 Washington (the STATE) : 0.302 per 10,000 people

Washington State, has a much lower murder rate, and is where I live. And my state's gun laws are similar to those of Texas. We are a blue (Democrat majority) state, but we still have a gigantic gun lobby and moderate Democrats who opposed a bill that would have enforced California-style gun laws, numerous times. Hell, our last Mayor was a member of the NRA.

Then you look at the state with the LOWEST murder rate:

#51 Maine: 0.136 per 10,000 people

It's #51 (among 50 states and 1 federal district), it has the lowest murder rate in our entire country yet Maine has been continually criticized for it's lax gun laws by delusional liberals. Maine has probably THE LEAST AMOUNT OF GUN CONTROL in our entire country. Maine has NO permits or licenses required for any firearm, and no waiting lists, yet it has the LOWEST MURDER RATE IN THE COUNTRY.

Don't you see that? The tighter the gun control, the higher the murder rate. Counterintuitive? not really, because when law-abiding citizens are disarmed, criminals who don't obey the laws in the first place have free reign. They have defenseless citizens to prey upon. All gun control does is make it so that the only people with guns are the criminals.

Further validating this is what happened in the UK:

After the Dunblane Massacre in Scotland in which 18 children were killed, the UK banned handguns in 1997. This actually caused UK handgun crime to GO WAY UP.

UK handgun violence continued to go up exponentially . Then in 2003 (6 years into the ban) they had TWICE the amount of handgun crimes than they did in 1997 before they started the ban!!!

So it seems that if you really want to lessen gun violence, you should be pro-gun based on the statistics.

I just got done watching the video on Yahoo... wow that guy was a nut job. The stuff he was saying made no since... and when it did it was twisted. I wonder how people get to that kind of stage in their life. I mean It must have been a mental illness or the guy just cracked. Also I think I heard one of my friends that they are trying to put the blame on violent video games again... After I finish this post I'm going to kill as many old ladies as I can in GTA just to piss them off :D.

We'd have to sacrifice our rights in order to prevent people from ever seeing or hearing about these things. It's unfortunate that tolerance means accepting more than we would like to so that we can live free lives.

At 4/18/07 10:30 PM, Zack wrote: I just got done watching the video on Yahoo... wow that guy was a nut job. The stuff he was saying made no since.

My thoughts exactly dude, I just read the article over at MSNBC and it's really kind of sad.

In one quote there he says "i didn't have to do it", then in the next paragraph he says "when the time came. I did it. I had to." Maybe thats just semantics, but he obviously wasn't thinking clearly, that's for sure.

Another thing:
The material does not include any images of the shootings Monday, but it does contain vague references. And it mentions “martyrs like Eric and Dylan”

You know, I was worried that this guy might be seen as an inspiration to other troubled kids in the future. The fact that he mentioned them kind of makes me think that there is a good possibility that some misguided soul might look up to this guy as a hero, or martyr. I don't think I really need to say this, but he is obviously neither.

Dude, Zack, I'm on board with you, man. I think this guy was probably suffering from some kind of mental condition. Depresion, psychosis, who knows, but he obviously wasn't right in the head and it's impossible that he could have been thinking clearly when he did this.

The article said that it looks like he had prepared the DVD well beforehand. I'm not really sure if most of the other school shootings were planned well in advance or if they were sort of spur of the moment. Actually, I'd bet that Columbine took some planning. But, it's really creepy that this guy was planning this while he was roaming the halls with his classmates just days before.

It also makes me wonder if he recognized anyone who was in the classroom, or if it was just an opportunity type of thing. I know the exact details are still a little sketchy, but it almost seems like he was a robot during the whole thing. I mean, he must have thought about it, because he obviously wanted to maximize the death toll. If he was just batshit-crazy, he would have just started blasting away right after the first shootings. He didn't, he calmed down long enough to send a package, walked into a building and into a classroom where people were probably cornered. This tells me that he held in his rage while he walked past everybody along the way, knowing that is he started blasting then that people would scatter. His intent was probably to kill as many people as possible. Did he stop when he did because he was down to his last round? I don't know, but if he did, that would make sense. Or maybe somebody in the classroom was a specific target and he went into a frenzy after taking them out. I guess it's still too early to speculate, but the more I find out about this whole thing the worse I feel about it.

I don't mean to come off as disrespectful to anyone out there, but it might actually be better if we just take what lessons we can from this and move on. I'm not saying "just get over it", I'm just saying that I hate to see shit like this sensationalized in the media. I guess it's probably too late for that anyways. There were pictures of students at VT on the front page of a local Japanese newspaper this morning. It's like a car crash, everybody has to look.

Wow, you need to calm down. I know the difference between the two I just seem to have not read your post closely enough and once I saw you use the state of Texas as a comparison to Washington I assumed you were comparing state to state not state to city, as a city typically will have a higher concentration of violence. I missed the D.C. part and as you can see in my reply I said Washington not D.C. If you had said something like Houston compared to Washington D.C. I probably wouldn't have missed it.

That said, D.C. does still have an exceptionally high murder rate even compared to other cities. I never said your statement was wrong, I even said I'll give you the benefit of a doubt... not everyone is out to get you man, seriously chill out.

I'm going to stop with this off topic crap now as I'm sure it's irritating to everyone and will likely make Maus's banning finger twitch.
