Well... I'm HEARING what I'm basing that on from the News on TV right now. And since misconceptions about pistols vs. SMGs is pretty common among people who don't know much about firearms, I can say with a degree of certainty that whatever news source made the initial claim was wrong.

I've seen similar mistakes on the news before.

Anyone seen the actual video of the shooting? Some guy recorded it and turned it in to CNN on the I-report thing. Scary stuff :(

I think they interviewed a girl who faked dead who claimed the shooter had both a hand gun and a black rifle.

Look at the picture I posted. He (who we think 'he' is) has one actual rifle which is the M4 style AR-15. But he also has two SMG's that someone could mistake for a rifle, and both of which are black.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict with reason that this is the guy. Eye witnesses said it was an Asian who did the shooting, and it's not exactly common for Asian Americans to own such firearms.

Also, it is said that the initial shooting happened after he was looking for his girlfriend or something. And if you look at his live journal, he has all sorts of wacky EMO-romance style poems and comments.

So I'm not claiming this as fact, but I think we can safely say that it is him.

I agree, I know my guns pretty well.

I was agreeing with the fact that it was not two 9mm pistols, but he did use a rifle.

Everyone said he had a rifle anyways, so it couldn't have been.

Actually I was watching CNN about 2 hours ago and they were interviewing a girl who was in the room he shot up pretending to be dead. She claimed he had two pistols. If that's all they had to go by at the time, it seems like a pretty good source. That's not to say he didn't have other weapons though.

Owsley posted this livejournal that was supposed to belong to the shooter.

It has pictures of multiple guns, a collection of Russian WWII-era Mosin Nagants as well as the the HK UMP and FN P90 SMGs, Taurus .40 pistol, and AR-15 in the picture I posted.

Thirty thousand people go to VT, and if someone's planning to shoot up a bunch of people, they don't have to be a gun fanatic, they just have to find some guns.

If the guns used were the exact guns seen in those pictures, maybe, but as far as we know, it was juts a couple of pistols. You don't need to be a gun collector to have pistols.

Ok, right now they are reporting that the victims were shot with a SMALLER caliber projectile in .22 caliber.

.22 or 22/100ths of an inch is equivalent roughly equivalent to 5.7mm which is the round that is fired by the FN-P90, in fact, look in the picture at that livejournal, he has a box of ammo for it.
