Anyone from Newgrounds go to Virginia Tech?
I saw this on the news when I went to get lunch and came back to check and see if it's online / posted already. Not too sure about all the details yet. All I saw on the t.v was an obese police officer running with an M16, so I figured something big must be going down if they handed that dude a gun.

I'm allready ready to bet that the eventual number of victims will be under 20. The first raports might exxagurate. But nonwithstanding, it's a tragedy. Wonder what happened.

Goddamn it... Columbine #2.
I wonder what the story with the shooter will be this time. Is it another poor, picked on outcast who listens to too much KMFDM or Marilyn Manson, or is it some delusional twat with an apocalyptic view of the world who thinks hes acting out his destiny? Either way I hope the shoot the motherfucker right now before he does any more harm.
Yay, Obama won. Let's thank his supporters:

In a country where you can be given a gun for opening a bank account it's hardly a surprise you get occurrences like this on a semi-regular basis.
Gun-toting maniacs.
Very sad though.

Yeah, I wonder if that has a part to play in this- after all it is just 4 days until the anniversary of Columbine. Since I moved to the States last Summer the number of school shootings has amazed me...

For a start there are at least two shooters as it was a simultaneous attack in two places in the campus, but no doubt they will find something to blame it all on- music/movies/games, any of those are likely to take the brunt of this. Of course it can't be the parents fault for bringing up such a messed up kid...
Anyway, RIP those who passed away today.

It sounds like they caught one guy. I don't know if the two separate shooting areas were done by different people, but when I saw the news they said they were still searching for a second shooter.
It's too bad stuff like this has to happen. It often makes me wonder...considering I live in a large residence myself, and visit my school's engineering building at LEAST once per day, what are the chances of something like this happening to me?
Ah well, let's hope things don't get any worse.

I knew some misguided child was going to bring that up. I am willing to bet that the people in this shooting did not legally attain their firearms, thereby making your little gun-control jab irrelevant.
Gun-toting maniacs.
People who buy guns legally in the US are the least likely segment of our society to use guns in crime, especially an unprovoked shooting like this. "Gun Toting" Americans who legally buy their firearms don't go on rampages, the people who do such a thing usually attain their firearms through the black market, which makes gun laws irrelevant in the issue.

And I KNEW that you would be the one to reply to it.
Gun-control, or lack thereof, is clearly a massive factor in the amount of school shootings that occur in the US. This is surely a fact, no? In the western "developed" world, nowhere is it easier for a young person to attain a firearm than the US.
I know you're blindly patriotic and America can do no wrong etc etc but strict gun control laws, like those seen in Europe, would clearly lessen the amount of these type of incidents.
I know you'll reply in some ultra-pro constitution diatribe but try your hardest to let this one go sweetheart.

Yeah, but the criminals don't really spawn them out of thin air either, do they? Legally purchased guns get passed down to criminals via teft or illegal sale. Would be a lot harder to get them if there weren't so many lying around*.
*this is a me-ta-for, doesn't mean I actually think people are stupid enough to literally leave them lying around, just statin that there are lot of legal guns that are rather loosely guarded.

There was a school shooting in Montreal just last year, and one prior to that at the Polytechnique.
So yeah.

Gun-control, or lack thereof, is clearly a massive factor in the amount of school shootings that occur in the US.
No it's not, because most of the school shootings and other violent crimes are committed with certain types of firearms that are legal in other countries.
This is surely a fact, no?
Nope.
In the western "developed" world, nowhere is it easier for a young person to attain a firearm than the US.
Yeah but that doesn't have much to do with the actual gun laws. The US borders Mexico, and gets an influx of smuggling from Central and South America which are basically a gigantic ammo cache.
Gun control has proven to be ineffective in curbing gun violence in the US because the criminals, the people who actually use firearms in crime don't obey the law in the first place. Creating stricter regulations on firearms only effects legal, law-abiding citzens who don't commit crime with firearms. Gun control in the US has proven to do nothing to limit gun violence.
In fact, if you look at the crime rates in certain parts of the US that have different gun laws, the places where gun restrictions are tighter actually have higher crime. All firearms are illegal in Washington D.C. in the urban areas, yet they have an enormous murder rate. But in places in Texas you can own chain-fed Machine guns and gun violence is almost nonexistent there. This is because when people OWN guns legally, they are unlikely to commit crime with it.
The type of person who commits gun violence in the US wouldn't obey gun regulations in the first place.
I know you're blindly patriotic and America can do no wrong etc etc but strict gun control laws, like those seen in Europe, would clearly lessen the amount of these type of incidents.
Wrong. In fact, during the Clinton Assault Weapons ban between 1994-2004, gun violence actually went up, and then went down after Bush refused to renew it.
I know you'll reply in some ultra-pro constitution diatribe but try your hardest to let this one go sweetheart.
No, because I can't let it go when an uneducated, misinformed child with no glimpse of reality makes a political point founded on ignorance.

Apparently one of the dead students was the new boyfriend of the shooter's ex-girlfriend. Anyone back this up?

Agreed. Killing people over a girl seems pretty fucked up.

When I saw this topic I was listening to "Time to do some killing". Now I'm listening to "the cut" and I can clearly hear "HELP ME!!!" and "you can't buy publicity like this" so it's quite funny.
You wanna gun? If you're desperate you'll get it! You wanna shoot people, I'll watch it, have a good laugh and move on. Simple. If I'm in a shooting, I'll still have fun, as proven by the Kings Cross Showgirls shooting.
Now we have Mr-Pope showing the lack of gun laws in America and Cellardoor trying to prove him wrong. The fact is the shooting was RIGHT because it is the NORM to hear about school shootings in America (i love caps, they're so strong....) therefore the shooters followed the trend and did the right thing according to the Lore of the Trend, at least for America.

This is NOT a Columbine #2. At least 22 people were killed and at least 21 wounded. More dead then Columbine. Holy shit this sucks. I hope any NG members were not killed or wounded in the shooting.
RIP
