There are just so many small minded people that get kicks out of abusing others, this is becoming more common in the west, and the ff flow to the eastern cultures isn't helping.
From school bullies to the Mafia to even government decisions. It happens anywhere and possibly everywhere in one form or another.
There is so little education on culture in schools (High schools would be the best place to teach it I think) and so little respect (generically).... that's it. RESPECT
I have to go on a large tangent on you for this one.
Culture does not mean the same thing as respecting another country's decisions and ideals.
Ever heard of the Korean Hate Wave that occured shortly after the time the Korean Wave hit Japan? A particular comic artist published his opinions on touchy subjects like the Japan Occupation and the conflicts the two countries have had in the past. Not only that, some Japanese publishers have edited out any trace of the fact that the Japanese have done all kinds of brutal experiments and torture on the Chinese and Koreans, that even several particular historians (Japanese) have protested that change because it is wrong to rewrite history in order to glorify their own country.
Racism gets us nowhere, that is a fact, but being ignorant and forgetting the past events is plain foolishness.
I also hate racist people. The last one I met I told to go fuck themselves (In 2 languages, I wanted to make sure they understood)
It is much easier to speak to the younger people about these matters as they are most likely to experience war yet. Especially in this current day and age, you can speak freely to any Korean about the violent past for their opinions and they'll be angry about it but not as furious as the older people who have actually experienced through the terror of their own Korean Culture going through genocide by the Japan extremists.
Do not get me wrong though. I am for a World Peace, but it is not something as simple as setting down all your weapons and setting aside all differences. That kind of ignorance might even achieve the opposite and thrown us into a world where hands only know how to pull the trigger.
As said by my best friend; "Forgive, but not forget."
