Is it just me, or does this statistic imply a 1 in 30 chance of dieing? And how come so many more American Soldiers have died than British ones? Do American troops have a higher profile than British ones? Or does killing an American soldier give insurgents more respect than killing a Brit?

I thought I had posted to this thread...
Guess I didn't.
According to http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/ir aq_orbat_es.htm, the US, in May of 2007, will have 155,000 troops in-country and another 30,000 in theatre. That's just ground units, mind you. Add in a couple thousand more for the naval presence (10,000-ish?), and about 17,000 (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/i raq_orbat_air.htm) for the Air Force.
If of that, there had been 3,000 casualties, I wouldn't be shocked. HOWEVER, this is just the current presence. There have been thousands upon thousands of other units in Iraq (meaning thousands and thousands of different people), so, the chance of being killed or even wounded, is slim. Very slim.

That sounds like an order. Well you have no physical power over me so if I want to join the military and have no intention to die you can't do shit.

wow... i know this has been siad a thousand times already but dude, you have no idea what you are talking about. It sounds like your parents are liberal ass hippies who make you listen to their "lets all get along" rants and it has gotten to you. I fully intend to join the army rangers in a little over a year(i will turn only 16 next month). every one blows the number of casualties out of proportion.
