Kman - PS3 exclusives are great, but they sell very poorly.
Mr.Moose ( Havent called you that in a long time ) - Not just shooters. Cmon but even using shooters as an examply, CoD4 was about 1,3 million sales on 360 against the 400k on PS3 or so. and MW2 sales are about double that ATM. I think last time I saw it, it was over 1.9 million preorders on 360 and 500k on PS3.
Well Call of Duty 4 is a bad example. Americans tend to love shooters, the xbox 360 at that time I think had the biggest install base in the United States of any nex gen console or close to it, most people that like shooters owned a 360. Not to mention Xbox 360s were a lot cheaper than PS3s.
The PlayStation 3's user base was more diverse through out the regions, it had the smallest install base in the United States out of the nex gen consoles (still does), people who owned/own PS3s tend to differentiate their game interest more so than 360 owners (at least from what I have observed in sales). And of course, the price was higher.
I'm not saying the PS3 version of MW2 will come anywhere close to the 360's (which it wont). I have seen the VGC estimates on pre orders as well and that doesn't include the day 1 and week 1 purchases. But games like Devil May Cry, Resident Evil 5, Tomb Raider, PES Soccer, Fifa, etc all sold better on the PS3 because the PS3 does better in the regions they were developed in and applies more to their user base. Games like Madden, CoD, Guitar Hero, etc will probably always sell better on the 360.
When it comes to exclusives, Microsoft knows how to market and sell. That's something Sony is just starting to learn with Kevin Butler.
