By "You" I was referring to the zealous evangelical Righties, which I lumped you with, for obvious reasons.
But where did they originate? Who's Moses, now?Did you not read that?
I said that the reason why I follow those ones are because they are re-stated in the New Testament for people to follow. All except "keep the sabbath holy". Or did you just skip that?
But YOU ignored the real question: Where did the ten commandments originate? The Old Testament. If this is not a part of your Church's official doctrine, why are they included in the ceremonies therein?
As are many of the laws cited by modern Christians as being "Concrete Laws" that are unmovable, and supposed to be applicable in a modern context. So, are you going to kill someone and claim "what? Those Biblical laws do not fit modern times!"?
Hey, your Church is the one who claimed the Old Testament had a figurative meaning. Perhaps "Thou shalt not Kill" is a grand metaphor for Beavers frolicking in a stream beneath Golden rainbows, whilst praising Moses.
Just when the fancy hits 'em, right? Sometimes it's "THE OLD TESTAMENT IS THE WORD OF GOD AND MUST BE APPLIED TO MODERN CODES OF ETHICALITY!"Have I said that?
Again, "You" refers to Evangelical Righties, whom I have lumped you with. I've seen countless attempts to discredit abortion and homosexuality through the use of Leviticus and other Old Testament books, then they turn around and say that the Old Testament isn't true doctrine.
Could you please clarify this contradiction for me?
The only time people should use the Old Testament is to read how it leads up to the New.
Hurray! Stupidity knows no bounds!
Indeed. But enough personal criticism, okay? It doesn't make you cool / badass, despite what you may think. Let's stick to facts rather than emotions.

well the Sabbath can be seen as just a holy day so Sunday for Christians should technically still be kept holy.

Not the Church I go to.
You're "lumping" every christian religion into one.
What are you saying though? That many of the New Testament 'commandments' can't be that of the Old even if the Son of God gave them?
Are you saying we should Murder? Steal? Disrespect your parents? Lie?
Face it, they're in BOTH except "keep the Sabbath Holy".

I practically agreed with everything you said! that there are those who will do as you say. However, why are you bitching about the 10 Commandments when all but 1 are repeated in the New Testament? As if some laws can't be kept?

The bible says that homosexuality is sin in Leviticus, but the bible ALSO says that all sins are equal. So we're all just as much a sinner as any homosexual is. The bible ALSO says that if we repent our sin and ask forgiveness from our saviour that our sins will be cleansed. So even if I do happen to get a haircut, I can ask forgiveness for wronging my God.
THAT is what Jesus did for us, he is the forgiver of sin. He was the ultimate sacrifice for the sin of man, the last lamb to be slain, the last man to be put to death for sin. Before Jesus, men were punished in earthly ways for their sins, such as death and sacrifice. Read the book of Job, read the book of Leviticus, and THEN read the 4 books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. And THEN come to a conclusion about what the Bible does and does not say about sin and how it is dealt with. As a matter of fact, you might as well read the whole fucking Bible.
You may view such things as cutting your sideburns and wearing clothes of mixed threads being sin as very silly things, but they are still wrong, and I don't see anything wrong with them being wrong, as a matter of fact, letting my sideburns grow out and my clothes to be 100% cotton, would really never bother me at all.
I thought that would be clear to anyone who sat down to read the Bible for more than an hour or two, but apparently not.

You're "lumping" every christian religion into one.
They all believe in essentially the same thing. There's Catholics on one side, Protestants on the other. I ASSUME you are the latter, but it doesn't really matter. All of the protestant religions are pretty much the same, except for how often you receive communion, and other minutiae.
What are you saying though? That many of the New Testament 'commandments' can't be that of the Old even if the Son of God gave them?
I'm saying that it's a contradiction by the Churches to claim that the Old Testament is "unaffiliated" with the belief system of the Church, but then they go and cite passages, and crib philosophies almost word-for word to emphasize points made for political aspirations.
Are you saying we should Murder? Steal? Disrespect your parents? Lie?

Yeah, they're in both. Thus, you believe in both testaments.

Homosexuality? I personally don't care. Why? Because that's not my life and no one is being hurt, though I don't agree with it.
Alright, perhaps I was wrong to group you as a blind follower, but the fundamentalist Evangelicals as a whole believe in the points stated above, and I have seen them attemept to discredit homosexuality as a sin, based on passages from the old testament.

Stop it. I'm not ripping on moral people. I consider myself a moral person. I'm just not "moral" in he sense that is defined by the bible—an unquestioning follower of the faith, that is.
You make me sick. All you do is pretend that you're so self rightous

What does a preacher do with every sermon?
on every good christian on the planet. And for what? What? What is the point?
Proving to the world that it ISN'T necessary to live in constant fear, and that we can finally start to make advancements to humankind that have been largely absent or stagnated due to religion. I'm not talking about small achievements, either. You'll notice that as the Church's influence has slipped over the past 200 years or so, more technological / agricultural / scientific advancements have been made, including the Industrial Revolution, MEDICINE, Aviation, and too many others to list.
So you can go around screwin horses?
What does that even mean, haha?
So you can get a cheap little laugh?
Laugh? Hardly. Hope for the future? Definitely.
Do you know whaat the world would be like without christianity? Europe, Asia, the USA? They wouldn't exist. Think about.
Think about religion's influence today in comparison with 200 years ago. It isn't nearly as powerful as it used to be, ESPECIALLY Catholicism. And what has occurred as a result? The rise of the United States, and other Democracy-based states. Au revoir, theocracy.
I garentee you that this post will be deleted or I will be banned again for this kind of thing.

How is it any more manipulative than what you're saying?
It's true that in some things aren't as followed through. Such as everything as that letter said.
We can attribute that to several changes the teachings of Jesus who was, oddly, breaking all the rules of his time. (Yet, he claims that he isn't breaking them... but fulfilling them...)
And the rest on post-Jesus influenced indoctorations such as the Epistles and etcetra, etcetra...
You claim nitpicking...
But I say you're just part of the crowd.
Follow through with the Old Testatment, or the New Testament.
Otherwise, it's just plain hipocritical to take a few things from the older one, because it suits your tasts, and fill in the rest with the other.
You're only speaking about a tiny speck in their eyes, my fellow...

most people follow what they want in the bible.
they see homosexuallity, they say "it is wrong, says so in the bible"
you take another thing, like burning a bull, they go "well thats rediculus" you say its in the bible and show it then they say "well, the bible was made a long time ago, we dont have to follow that one"
the bible isnt straight foward. it has alot of holes and sometimes contradicts itself.
that is one reason i dont follow a religioun. im not athiest, im spiritual. i do believe there might be some god or some energy out there that could govorn the universe, wether it be a supreme being or a fource of nature.
i also believe that why ever you believe in is true, as long as it doesnt harm others. like if you believe there are multiple gods, then there are. if you believe there is one god, then there is. if you believe there is no god, then there isnt. if god is a supreem being, then why does he/she/it/? have to be one thing. a supreme being could be multiple things at once, and each one is singular.
i also believe that what come around goes around, aka karma, or a form of karma.
i also beleive that it doesnt matter what you belive in. you belifes dont define you, it is what you do that does.
i dont challenge other's belifes and say that they are wrong because we wont know for sure till we are dead.
and i also believe that if there is a heaven, to get in you dont have to be straight, christian, or follow the bible word for word, you just have to be a good person.
do i think i am right, well i dont know. as i said, wont know for sure untill we are dead.
i dont want people to belive in what i believe in, i want people to belive in what they belive in.

I've been good to people all my life and all I've gotten for the past few years is shit. Constant crap. You know my reasons for saying what I say, don't act like you don't. It wasn't even directed toward anyone specific. Think bigger than yourself.
Hell, I don't even know any of you people. But this is where somone like me can say what he thinks without being shut up or banned or delet- wait, that's what happened to me. Guess I better keep looking.
I'm going to do something to bring the world to a realization of where it's going, and how that will end. I just don't know what to do yet. So fuck you, fuck the internet, fuck Newgrounds.

The Old Covenant no longer apply to Christians. You are supposed to come to an understanding of why those laws were written and keep to the underlying principles, but should not worry about the specifics of the law itself.
So, in deciding whether or not homosexuality should be condemned, we should ask what the underlying principle is. The Old Testament calls homosexual acts "wicked" and an "abomination." Only the latter is used in the context of the statement of a law, whereas the former seems to render a moral evaluation of the act.
Romans refers to homosexual acts as "degrading," "shameful," and perverse. Romans says that sodomites (i.e., homosexuals) will not receive the kingdom of God..a harsh condemnation of the homosexual lifestyle.
All in all, there is no other conclusion than that the Bible condemns homosexuality, although I also believe that the Old Law condemns it. It says homosexual acts are an abomination to God, which is apparently the reason for the law. Did homosexual activity cease to be an abomination when the Old Law expired?

Memorize, even Jesus told us that the Old Testament was still in effect, just not in the way it used to be. Now, think of a State and a county government. Jesus is the state, and the Old Testament is the county. So, they're both in effect just as they were, but some of Jesus's law has overwritten what some of the Old Testament law put into place.

Keep the Sabbath Holy? Ok... that was a Jewish law from the Old Testament, which fell on a Saturday. Today we are told to "reserve a day for the Lord".

Yeah, I don't care who answers this just so long as I get an answer. Why is it that on this forum, you can EASILY bring up the search bar and find any one of the over 1400 religion christianity, bible, and Jesus topics to bump and post in, yet you whiny little assholes KEEP FUCKING MAKING NEW TOPICS ABOUT THE SAME DAMN THING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN?!
You know what? I'm not apposed to making an official religion topic anymore! Because at this point, I'd love to send several dozen of you little shits off on vacations from the BBS so you can quit bogging down this place with the same tired old "TEH BIBLE SUXXORZ LOLZ" topics, and we can get BACK to discussing real issues!
