Surely you could do the same with two or three cheaper monitors though...

I personally don't think it's worth the money when a couple of 100 quid TFT's could do the same job. Multiple monitors would probably be more effective aswell, becuase you wouldn't have to worry about the positioning of each window as much,plus the overall size would be larger.

The main benefit of the monitor would be for games, videos and the like, I don't really think spending that much to improve your internet browsing is really worth it.

I never understood the point of having a resolution higher than your eyesight can handle. I seem to top at like 1024 x 768. We have monitors at school ( macs, of course, what else would prompt people to sucking so much? ) and the resolution is set to impossibly uselessly high it's not funny.
You have to drag the mouse for a mile to get from one corner of the screen to the other and to click on things is like playing darts.
