My birthday is coming up soon and I know I'm getting an instrument. The problem is, I can't decide between something like a B.C. Rich guitar or a mandolin. I'm pretty experienced at guitar so I thought that maybe I could try something different to expand musically. Which one do you think I should go for?

I play the baritone which is basically the trombone but with valves. It's a higher version of the tuba.

Play the drums... Theyre always fun... And there are thousands of ways you can keep adding to it, to expand your experience. I'm working on building up my set right now ^.^

My friend has a huge drum set of like 25 pieces. Its pretty crazy, mad fun to play cause theres always something else to hit.

Did i mention you get to hit things with sticks? I mean come on, when else can you hit things with sticks and A) it sounds good, and B) you dont get in trouble for it (usually)

Can't, my brother plays them in my band already and they sound dull.

Dull? Hardly... What type of Drumset does he have? And what type of drum heads? Drum heads can make all the difference in the world.

Perhaps he's just not very good? Drums are the last thing that should sound dull... Have him experiment with other things than just basic beats, thats where it gets dull... And make sure he puts his emotion in it... Drums are like a piano, without emotion its just meaningless noise... But if you really put your all into it, they can sound epic.

It really depends on what kind of music you want to play. The mandalin offers a real nice folkish sound which is good if you want to do some Celtic type music. If you get a guitar do not go with a B.C. Rich. If you can get a cheap Ibanez or at least a Fender.

No, he's great. He can play a lot of Rush stuff, I just find the drums to be shallow personally.

Don't listen to the fools bashing BC Rich. When they say "All BC Rich guitars suck", they're probably referring to the Bronze series, which I think is actually now a separate brand name, rather than series of BC Rich guitars.

If you can afford one of the higher-end BC Rich guitars, by all means go for it.

I personally know some very proficcient musicians who swear by BC Rich guitars.

Yes we are right. I was refering to the bronze series anyways...I should have been more clear on that:P Jarrydn is right though. If you can get a higher end B.C. rich like the platnium series warlock then go for it.

Ok, would the Jacknife be a ripoff? Also, for metal guitars under $1000, what would you reccomend?
