4.07 / 5.00 10,082 ViewsHey newgrounds, this is something I've been meaning to tell you for a while now. It takes 5 months to make a flash thats awesome, but since these noobs that didn't enjoy it and don't even know how freakin hard flash is, they blam it to hell. I mean, I have sumbitted like 25 flashes, and 2 of them passed because they were submitted on a certain holiday. God, I am so pissed. Its torture to get something through the portal. They expect me to draw it like an artist on a COMPUTER, and then draw it on each frame. Newgrounds used to be about funny stuff, not graphical art.
I hope I've made my point.
Well... if these never passed are for some reason. It needs to be voted by 200 users passing with more than 1.50/5.00. This Newgrounds and it works fine already, seriouly.
It probably will be better in waste your time learning new skills in Flash and try to do something that you like but that the others like too. I know what did you mean in this thead.
Good luck.
you say you've gotten two to pass but yet I dont see any submissions of yours.

What point were you trying to make? That shitty flash is good? What?
Na, some of my stuff I've made in a day and it scores above 3. 5 months is ridiculous, nothing that takes 5 months to make will get blammed. Eventually you will improve your skills, and you will get recognized for it, but not if you go when the goings tough. I was pissed when I didn't get awards for duck luck 1-3, but I kept making them and then i got front page and daily first. Just keep at it.
i made a flash in a week and it passed, with a crappy 2.50 :P
Yes, they expect you to draw like an artist, because animation for the most part - is art! :D
If you dont like using a mouse, go buy a wacom tablet.
If your drawing currently sucks, go buy a sketchbook and study.
If you would rather not do any of those things, go be a screenwriter. Its just as rewarding, especially if you're good.
i made a flash in a SINGLE DAY once, an it passed with a very nice score, despite the fact that it was only 15 seconds long. the art and animation were nice, though, and it was synced to music, so everyone loved it and voted well. i speak, of course, of Conquest. yeah, im showing off my flash. SO? >:C

Yeah, well I made a flash in 7 hours, and it barley passed, but it had reviews like . . .

Ok, this is incredibly original! Which is not by any means a common thing to say these days. You have stumbled upon something that can be HUGE. I sure hope this passes, I want you and others to get the urge to make an entire flash movie with this great idea. I wish it wasnt so short, it would've been weekly feature material

lol, it was dumb to censor it in the first place, but don't you have anything better to do than run to the reviews and serach for it??!?!??!?! yeah me neither...nice work!

If I didn't give the date, you could still easily find out who wrote it . . .

hes right that its very frusterating indeed... but thats sort of how you build your war wounds in a way... its so hard being a new artist because people approach your work on a bad note to begin with .. its just the ng way... and so its tougher. but as you become more experience you naturally get better at flash and you finally clear that hump.. and start building a small fan base and so on.. with enough persistence and you can become the next whatever... where you have a fanbase of guardian angels...

Making successful flash isn't that hard. It just has to be good enough. If you that desperate to get something on the portal make a soundboard. I made one in my year and a half of making crap flash and it got through. But you shouldn't get all pissed just coz people don't like your flash. In fact show us some of your flash and well see if they deserve to be blammed.
Taste my Walrus.
(it's pronounced 'Jay-Ko')
at least your not alone here.
I've mentioned this in a previous thread before, but I'll restate it here again anyway.
I've submitted my latest game Perfectus Volatus just a few days ago, which I've put about 2.5 months of effort and planning on, and I've just found out that it got a lower score than games that spawn out a sequel every week with same concept slightly tweaked (yes the spin series, i'm sorry for pointing fingers).
NG nowadays had become a harsh community, it's really frustrating for me to see the score of a certain submission being far from equivalent to what it actually worths.
I was indeed pissed when I found out my game got a really low score, what's even worse is that I'm getting insults from the reviews. I'm just simply telling myself to try better next time.
So Luis, you're saying that you need a group of people who know you and vote 5 on everything you do to be a success?
Whatever happened to judging a work by it's own merit? All of this I'm OK- You're OK reciprocation by-proxy is really starting to rot my socks! I don't make movies, I write scripts for movies, but I can see how this buddy system could really ruin your day.
M.
This is Newgrounds, You hafta give them something that'll keep 'em entertained for around 5 minutes.
When you make an animation, you aren't making an animation to show other people how hard it is to make flash, or to make people laugh(but that can be a goal), you're ENTERTAINING people. Just ordinary people.
These people who watch your movie, these non animators, they don't care if you spent years perfecting your flash, they will blam it if it doesn't provide them with the proper entertainment they want. Who the fuck cares if you spent 6 months on an animation when it burns your eyes and is not funny in the least?
People don't need to know how hard it is to animate, what you need to learn is to make flash movies that people will be entertained by. Remember that people don't care how long or hard you worked on your flash, they care about how much enjoyment they get when they watch it. If I was an engineer and I spent 10 years working on a chair that stuck a pole up your butt, would you buy my product just because it took me 10 years to make, or would you buy the chair that took 2 days to make and is cushiony soft?

You shouldn't be. When your game gets a low score without the mass blamming of crew, you deserve the score you get.
I made a game for Christmas a while ago, and I put my heart and soul into it. Only one thing though, it was one of the most unentertaining pieces of crap I have made. Ever. It got a bad score ,<3.5 . I was angry until I came to the realization that a game isn't about the work you put into it, its about how good the game actually is, and how much fun it can give the viewer. My games no longer strive for awesome graphics, or the greatest engine in the world. That doesn't matter anymore. What matters is that my games can give enjoyment to those who play them.
Your other account is Piemix right? Well your stuff is shit anyway man, I don't want to be negative and all that, but there's a reason why your stuff is not getting through, you don't have enough experience to make something good. I'm waiting till I get a load of experience with flash and I know how to use flash properly, even though I've been using it for 3 years :P But still, you can't really say stuff like that, and nearly all members know exactly what they are doing when the BLAM jooo! Please don't cry, NG is actually kind and if you want to get a flash in the portal, wait till clock day, it should get through then.

Im just saying that its a fact of life and no secret frankly that once you are well known you get more leniency... theres alot of stuff out there that isnt necessarily 'successful' by newgrounds vote standards but in actually is really novel and promising... its the nature of the beast... to say the portal is a measure of what is or isnt a good movie/game is pure bullshit... theres all sorts of loopholes and personality quicks to it that make it so that the system is never truly fair... its stupid i agree with you but its a reality.
Case and point, video game parodies are nothing new to the portal.. hundreds to thousands of people have made em ... in a 'fair' system you'd think that as more and more people churn them out it would saturate itself and would reflect on peoples voting habits... it does HOWEVER.. if say LegendryBullfrog comes along and submits a parody of the SAME video game being parodied REGARDLESS of how harsh they are being with everyone else submitting theres users that will vote 5 on LF's stuff simply because its him... they wont even bother to look at the movie.. they feel some sort of duty to 'protect' their idols and their work.... Im not hating on LF, he is more or less just a cog in the grand scheme of things.. its not his fault people do this shit.. i dont *think* he tells thousands of people to vote 5 for his movie no matter what... its just how the portal and its reviewers are..
Truth of the matter is the reasonable reviewers and people who actually take the time to judge each by its own merit are few and vastly outnumbered.
In a way though you sort of expect that... the internet is sort of this place where most people have the attention span of a fish. they'll watch the first 10 seconds or something and figure its not worth it and just vote 5 or 1 or whatever.. and move on to other shit. part of that is also do to the immense amount of crap that clogs the portal's arteries.. i couldnt spend a day going through the entries coming in because for every 1 good entry id have to waste my time with 20 purposely 'crap' entries. Shit that is submitted that has no business being submitted... im sure we all have seen it at one time or another.

I agree with Lou to some degree.
I think there is a shit load of kids on here who should not be allowed to rate peoples movies so harshly, since they have no idea how hard it is to make a flash. At the same time, I do think the system works pretty well most the time. I mean if your movie is crap, these guys will gladly tell you and have your movie blammed. If your movie is good, it will pass, some people wont like it, but most people will.
The thing is I think everybody needs some overly harsh comments. This is even better when you're starting out. Think of it as a filter, the strong dedicated animators make it through and the weak offended ones will stop animating. That may seem harsh, but honestly I don't even want to see a movie from a kid who wants to quit because some other 12 year old called him "gH3y".
I wouldnt have barely gotten any better if I didn't get such harsh reviews a few years ago. I mean that stuff hurts, but if you know this is what you want to do, you have to work past it and make something better.
I really don't believe you have worked as hard as you say you did on your movies though. I mean 5 months each for 25 movies? Newgrounds hasnt had a portal for that long. Just suck it up and try harder.

Portal is stupid. - CHIKUNHED

Motion passes. Legendary frog is a no-talent hack.
Newgrounds is full of shit films and retards - Luis

Motion passes. Newgrounds is a stupid system written by monkeys for retards who post shit and deify pedestrian animators by name alone.
Finally we can agree on something!
Louie, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

The portal was programmed by a few really smart guys with a good idea.
Thats not at all what Lou is saying.

Well i dont think that the portal is programmed by monkeys necessarily, it was built in good faith, to give users a sense of power and greater power as they become more engaged with the site(ie leveling up) but like any service on the web its bound to eventually be exploited.
A good example is YouTube... it was concieved as a place where people can share videos or whatever... they figured limiting people to 10 mins per video would hold off people from submitting commercial shows/movies..... nope, theres people who go through the trouble and slice movies into 9:59 min chunks ...
People will always find a way to exploit the system. Always. Its the nature of the internet user. I think that people just need to not take the portal so personally... theres tons of sites out there to plug your things where the audience isnt as harsh or biased... for instance DeviantArt you can make a movie about a turd and you'd likely get 20 positive comments on it regardless of how effortless it is... its userbase is more merciful. Each site sort of has its own personality and you just gotta keep that in mind when you are submitting. Dont necessarily get depressed about it.
well we ALMOST agreed on everything.

maybe you just need to work harder on your stuff?
if you take 5 months on your work without havign a cleu what your doing it will eb blammed, if you take 5 months and know what ru doing, dont suck and make soemthign worthy of beign saved, it'll be saved..
i did Canada's Really Big in 11 days... it got an award and a huge score... but i had over 2 years of EXP before doing so.

Learn from the reviews man.
It's like if you try out for football, sure, not everyone makes the team, the BEST make the team. Newgrounds is a huge damn football team dude, which isn't alllll that difficult to make...
Unless you have some syndicate out there that hates you, and mass-votes your movies to hell...but few people are that hated.
Like I said, learn from reviews, and improve...NG isn't that hard to succeed on.
Ignorance is bliss.
Read the reviews. Why do your flashs get blammed all the time? Im sure its in the reviews..
