Oh lord, there is really not much difference between grunts and jarheads, both are as lethal as the other and both have the same technology to kill with. No marine is tougher than a Canadian soldier though, and I stand by that statement.

So you study Military Science without actually being in the military? Does anyone else have the mental image of the small, mean-spirited child that would hold the big bully's coat come to mind?

Speaking as an acitve duty Marine who is about to make this 3rd push into Iraq. We have different missions and styles. As Marines there are about 190,000 of us right now I think. We are not made to be an occupational force like the Army. We go in and do our little blow shit up thing and then we keep pushing and let the Army stay there for occupational operations.
Now the problem comes in when the Army can't hold it and we have to come back, like Fallujah, thats what pisses off most of us. Just imagine hearing "You know that city were we lost 200 Marines and let the Army take over.......we get to go do it again!"
Or having mortars or artillery rounds coming in on you and realizing it's the Army firing on your position because their computers broke. Or Jessica Lynch's convoy having their GPS go down and having no idea how to read a fucking map and what wasn't it like 8 soldiers died because of that? And because her weapon was to dirty to fire.
It's these things that makes the Army look bad. Not to mention in garrison them walking around in their BDU's smoking, talking on their cell phones, and eating while walking. You do that in the Marines uniforms and stand the fuck by if I see you.
Who is better? Can't compare the two branches different missions. But who needs ALOT better training and needs to stop depending on TECHNOLOGY and learn how to read a fucking map! The Army.
Oh and before I forget
OOrah, YUT YUT, Devil Dog, Semper Fi.
The marines are very good at what they do only because of one reason.
THEY GET HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All tactics have multiple kinds of units.
If you were to attack a city this is what you do:
Send air force to bombard the heck out of the city from the sky. Then use artillery to bombard the city again. Then you would send in armored units to take down what are known as first stage survivors with a little help from some infantry units. Then to take down the last survivors you send in the full infantry force.
As you can see all branches work together.
A soldier from the army or the marines might say some things about the other military branch, but, if he was actually a true soldier, would never say his branch is better than the other.
It can take a hundred days to make one ally, but it can take only one day to make a hundred enemies.

Actually you are very very very wrong. Have you ever heard of a MAGTF? Marine Air Ground Task Force. It is basically combined arms, we have our fixed wings blow shit up, ground arty fuck shit it, then we send in the ground combat element which is armor and infantry together with helo's giving close air support. So when the Marines go in somewhere we do about 90% of the work.
I'm not saying we are better than any other branch. You can't compare us and the Airforce. But as it goes for the Army, I have never had a good experience nor have I been impressed with anything I have seen from them. I do know some good Soldiers though.
Just wanted to correct you on your view of how the Marines today work. Also if you speak about any service Marines, Navy, Airforce, Army, Soldiers, Airmen, or Sailors capitalize it.

First of all thank you for correcting my grammer in a polite way.
Second the marines are infantry and that go into lots of different environments. They used to be just naval infantry that protected the ships but now today that's different.Who do you think supplies the MAGTF.The Army, the Air Force and the Navy. The Marines have always somehow have had help and so have the Army, the Air Force and the Navy.
Also sometimes holding a city after it's been captured can be even harder. You have to think if there's going to be a counter attack, there's going to be alot more people attacking it than there was defending it.
Besides I don't even see the point of this.Who's better and who's not.The Marines and the Army are both doing their job, both are doing their job very well and both are defending their country.
It can take a hundred days to make one ally, but it can take only one day to make a hundred enemies.
Why do we even have this topic? We need both to protect us and they both have different assignments so you can't really say one is better then the other. Also, the soldiers are our heroes. I can't believe you said that the media portrays them to be. Every person who fights for our country is a hero.
Sup?
they both work hand in hand...if you don't have them both its hard to win a war..but if i had to choose I'd say marines..better training and can operate on land and sea..the army is majority land

I really hope you aren't serious. Saying that with the incorrect spelling...classic!
P.S.
This thread really needs to stop. You can argue this all day and it really isn't a good topic. I will still take PMs about it, but this is just a bad topic for the forums.
