What AOl does is it listens to its users. When a user says "this is spam" AOL takes note of it. It then makes an effort to block it if it can. You can blame the person who first said anything from newgrounds is spam, because he started the process that got emails blocked from newgrounds. gimmie a dollar

I got rid of aol aprox 1 month ago. When it shows your email, there is also a bulk folder that contains (what aol thinks is) spam mail. When I used Italy Yahoo Mail not to long ago, it filed the val email as "bulk". Maybe after users hit the "submit" button in the GG Signup Window, it would say:
“NOTE: Some email services such as AOL and Yahoo Mail file the Newgrounds validation email as ‘bulk’ mail or ‘spam’ mail, if you get an email in your ‘bulk’/‘spam’ from g-bot@newgrounds.com, do not delete it!!! It is needed for your account to be active. Also, some email services don't even serve the email to a ‘bulk’/‘spam’ folder; instead they just delete it. If this happens, go here and enter a hotmail account instead.”

my sister had aol ford like almost a year i had an e-mail threw aol cause they were the only that didn't delete the accont if i didn't check it for 60 days or more the main computer i used had msn which was fuckin easyer to use then aol [at till they came out with msn 8] well one time when the hard drive went out in the main computer i used my sisters computer for two weeks that son of bitching internet pissed me off couldn't even get to newgrounds and a couple of other sites {ebay, etc yes i have no life} i was so happy to get back on to msn when the computer got fixed and in the last few months we got dsl threw the local hick town phone companey {were number 256 to sign up out of like at least 3300 customers} we got rid of gay msn 8, and then my sister tried to get rid of aol they made her fuck around a good 4 hours trying to get rid of it, plus the dumb son of a bitches try to get her to sign up for aol broadband which for one isn't in are area and 2 is at least $20 or more {dsl for us is only like $40 a month which includes the internet service and everything ya the little hick seems to have more then the city} well anyhow the were happy with dsl, oh ya when i had there e-mail accont i got a bunch of shit for porn and home mortage loan {what an odd combination} My point is ditch Aol gayol as some say whatever you call it you will be much happier

this guy does make some good points here people. Most of you aol haters should read what this guy said. I know a few flash guys who use aol. like the huy who makes perfect kirby.

Tom, you are being way to steriotypical about AOL users and I don't appriciate it.

and so what? He is right you know aol users bicth about alot and they have no right to bitch. I mean they complain about teh site being slow but teh have 56k. alos who many great flash movies have gotten 0's and bad reviews cause aol users can't see them cuz it takes way to long.

So their you have it. 99% of people on this thread saying "LIEK OGM!!!!!111 DEI AOL!!!!!11!!!11" haven't even used it before.

I have used aol and hated it. had to sign on and off 3 times just to vote on 1 film. aol is bad and it sucks. switching to a different ISP won't mean shit to some. The bottom line is that aol is a bad thing and that is the truth. I am glad I got rid of it and got cable modem. I know most of you can't get that but egh.

I have mixed feelings over this, but I think there are measures before blocking AOL. Tom, try conacting AOL themself before banning us. You should bring it to their attention and ask for changes. If AOL does no comply, then block them. Maybe, include a list of all your AOL users that'd be blocked, and many forced to change providers because of the block. Maybe then they'll listen. Also, nobody listen to the users who can't even spell or punctuate correctly. They say AOL is for complete dumbasses, but the AOL users are bringing up better points than "gay-ol iz 4 pepl who cant uze a compitor ban aol cuz aol shud die" I'm serious, about 2 pages of this topic is like that. I'm not bias towards AOL, because I've seen good points by people for banning AOL users, but do you see any AOL users saying "aol is kewl aol 4 life!" Ok, bad example, but you get my point. Don't bash me for using AOL, at least hear me out.

I don't hate AOL users. I hate AOL users who haven't tried anything else and still thinking it's the best. I also hate people who've never even seen the way AOl is and still think it sucks. But don't i have tried both and Aol does suck ass. But now every one every where has the right to hate Aol. this is pure bull shit.
P.S.opt. online is about 9000000X faster. Cable modems kick ass.

What pissed me off about these extra charges is that they never mentioned them as part of their fees. Nor did they warn me about the possibility of having to pay for such charges.

Really?? I thought it said it pretty clearly...

As the master account holder, you are responsible for all charges incurred, including applicable taxes and purchases made by you or anyone you allow to use your account or sub-accounts, including your children, other members of your family or friends. This means that, unless your account or credit card information is obtained unlawfully or fraudulently by someone other than those authorized to use your account or sub-account, you will be responsible for all usage and purchases under your account or sub-accounts.

There may be extra charges to access certain premium content on AOL. AOL will provide notice of any extra charge before you enter the premium area. You are responsible for any charges for premium content incurred using your account (including sub-accounts) and these charges apply even during the free trial. AOL's Parental Controls allow you to prevent sub-accounts from accessing premium or surcharged content. For more information go to Keyword: Parental Controls. Some Web sites charge separate fees, which are not included in the cost of your AOL membership. AOL provides access to a large number of third-party vendors, who provide content, goods and or services on the AOL service or the Internet. Any separate charges or obligations you incur in your dealings with these third-parties are your responsibility and are not part of the fee charged for your AOL membership.

Most members pay by credit card. For most billing plans we will be charging your designated card every month, but some charges may accumulate on your account before they are charged to your card. If you don't have a credit card, you can authorize AOL to make electronic fund transfers from your checking account. There is an additional surcharge for this payment option and you should go to Keyword: Billing and read about AOL's Billing Methods for more information. By selecting this billing option and providing AOL with your debit/checking account information, you authorize AOL to debit your checking account for charges incurred using AOL. Every time you use AOL, you re-affirm that AOL is authorized to charge your credit card or withdraw funds via electronic transfer from your checking account, depending on which payment method you have selected. You also agree to authorize AOL to charge purchases you make online to the credit card you supplied to AOL when you joined or to debit your checking account if you selected that option during the registration process.

We expect you to pay your account balance on time. We will give you 30 days from the date on your account statement to pay your bill. AOL will assess an additional 1.5% (or the highest amount allowed by law, whichever is lower) per month late charge if your payment is more than 30 days past due. That amount is also due immediately. You are responsible and liable for any fees, including attorney and collection fees, that AOL may incur in its efforts to collect any remaining balances from you. You also agree that you will be billed for and will pay any outstanding balances if you cancel your membership or are terminated. You should let us know about any billing problems or discrepancies within 90 days after they first appear on your account statement. If you do not bring them to AOL's attention within 90 days, you agree that you waive your right to dispute such problems or discrepancies.

AOL has an extensive network of access phone numbers throughout the country, but it is still possible that the nearest AOL access number might be a long distance or toll call from your location. Any telephone charges incurred connecting to AOL are your responsibility. Since these charges are your responsibility, you should contact your local telephone company if you have a question about whether an AOL access number is a long distance or toll call from your location. AOL also provides several surcharged 800 or 888 access phone numbers (for the current surcharge rate go to Keyword: Access). If you choose to use these surcharged numbers to access AOL, you agree to pay the currently applicable surcharge to AOL. If you have other questions about access phone numbers, you should consult Keyword: Access. It is important to note that you can incur long distance or toll charges or surcharges for 800 or 888 access even during your free trial.

Puhlease. Juno and Net Zero _ARE_ AOL!!! They use the same damn access numbers and network...just they give the routers a different alias to make it juno.com or netzero.net instead.

When I was limited to dialup, just like your precious Juno my AOL got me at 49,333 every time. If not, it was 52,666 or 45,999. You are ignorant of facts. Do research.

Of course, my modem is capable of any speed in increments of 333 baud from 333 to 56,666, and AOL supports it on the V92 number I'm dialing. Maybe you were using an X2 on a K56 number or a K56 on an X2 number. Then you CAN'T get above 33,333ish...every ISP had that limitation before the universal v.90bis and v.92bis modulation standards came along, years ago.

Happy To Help.

Okay, I've made mty points, I guess. Mos of them. Not I shall just get on with my final word on the matter:

If AOL the COMPANY is fucking NG, why should NG fuck AOL's CUSTOMERS out of veiwing the site? We didn't do shit. And how do you KNOW it's all AOLers that vote zeros? You don't. You are making up shit.

If you want to ban AOLers, hell! Go for it! But I will not switch ISPs for you. You can kiss my half an American cent kickback per popup ad goodbye.

BTW, speaking of popups...in the past several months I have spotted ZERO popup ads from AOL on AOL. Since version 8.0 there have been NONE. They even supplied us an integrated popup killer for things like the magazine ad that Tom flings at me every single page I load. Hell, AOL's popup killer even kills the popup on the AOL.com home page! You'd think it wouldn't. Anyways, get that? No popups since 8.0. Another piece of anti-AOL propaganda falls flat.

Too bad that I can't use that killer here because of the Proxy thing, eh? Well, I have this other one for MSIE anyway, but I leave it off so Tom can make a few cents off me.

At 5/7/03 09:05 AM, TomFulp wrote: We have been experiencing a recent surge in AOL users who aren't getting their validation emails, which means they can't validate and use their NG user accounts. While the idea of blocking AOL users from NG has always been tempting, we would like to leave that decision to us and not AOL.

It looks like AOL is filtering our emails as spam - which is complete bullshit. Blue Mountain (greeting cards) actually sued Microsoft (a competitor in the on-line greeting cards industry) a while back, because Microsoft had their software auto-delete Blue Mountain cards as spam. Think about how much that must have hurt their business, when everyone using Outlook stopped receiving greeting cards from Blue Mountain!

That is basically what AOL is doing to us - cutting off our ability to reach people with requested validation emails and "Tell a Friend" emails that help spread the word. It is really pissing me off. Could some AOL users help us figure out the exact problem? Is it a junkmail filter that can be disabled, or do you not even get a choice?

Perhaps NG will prosper from the sudden drought of AOL users, who are notorious for being the dumbest people on the web. No offense, AOL users... but your service sucks and you should switch before they go under. Not to mention they make you share your IP address with a gazillion other users, and it limits your ability to vote for stuff on NG and other sites that check IPs.

So there are two ways we can solve this - either get AOL to stop blacklisting us, or get everyone to stop using AOL. I would prefer both.

Tom...the problem is some people have been using the "report as spam" option on their e-mails (whether accidentally or on purpose), and this has caused the "Community Action Team" at AOL to shit-ball Newgrounds. I mean AOL is a fucking joke when it comes to blocking porn and all that other shit, but when its something legitimate like NG they are all about hurting it. I say let's attack AOL's server...fuck it. Got any good viruses????? hahaha.
