Here are some reasons:

The global economy would collapse
We would nuke the shit out of that country 1000 times worse
WWIII would break out
People don't really hate the US, they mostly hate Bush. If we don't have some shithead elected in '08 theres a good chance for foreign relations to really improve.
Lastly, the people who would nuke the USA lack nuclear weapons.

We have ICBMs and SLBMs. Five of which would probably blow any moderate sized country off the map.
We also have NORAD which would detect a lunch the minute it happened.

Now to answer you question honestly. They don't bomb us because we do all the dirty work so that the other countries can sit back and bitch at us saying you missed a spot without themselves getting dirty. We're too important politically, militarily and economically.

Actually, it would be better for the US if nobody had nukes. The US non-nuclear conventional military is more powerful than ever other military in the world combined. Other countries combined would have more people, but the US military is decades ahead in technology than everyone else.

Anyone with half a shred of knowledge about the subject would know that. It would actually be better if nobody had nukes if the US was really to go to war with the rest of the world. The US is the only country with stealth aircraft, ultra-long range cruise missiles, the US is the only manufacture of large amounts of precious weapons (laser and GPS guided bombs), the US is the only country with aircraft supercarriers, (only france and the UK have aircraft carriers but theirs are very small and the US has 30 amphibious assault ships that are actually bigger).

The US has the most powerful military, nukes or not. Meanwhile, almost everyone else in the world relies on US military technology anyway. You think that the UK would be able to fight the US if they didn't have US GPS support? No European country even has their own military satellites, how they hell are they going to go to war with the US when they can't even navigate?

You don't know wtf you're talking about. Your country's military is based almost ENTIRELY on US technology anyhow. Even Britains nukes that you pride yourself in are all American made, American maintained, and reliant on American assistance to launch them. LinkLINK

I'm not really boasting, I'm just telling the truth. It's a simple fact that the US military, both our nuclear power and conventional military power is unrivaled. Yeah I'm proud of it, but its just a simple truth that one of your compatriots was unaware of, so I had to correct him.

Granted it's ok to be proud of your country, but why be proud of killing for your country?

Well first of all, I make a distinction between killing for your own gain (murder) and killing for your country which I consider to be a heroic and selfless act for most circumstances.

I admit, I am a patriotic person and an American idealist, I believe in what we are doing right now in Iraq and Afghanistan so I have no problem with our troops killing for our country. And like this thread talks about, if the US was attacked by the rest of the world, I take great pride knowing that we have the military power to win.

Nuking a nation you havn't even met is something, and thinking a nation should be judged by their firepower is really sad. What's awful is that people don't seem to realise what good could come out of combining it all together.

Well, you know. The people who actually think its a good idea to nuke eachother are just the 13 year old morons. Everyone who has posted in this thread so far pretty much belongs to a country that is allied with the US and probably will never go to war with the US any time soon, so it's all hypothetical really.

Well, I still think the US military is more competent than the British military. It's a myth that the US has poor training, and so forth, it's just that since the US military is bigger, its slightly less efficient than the British military in some areas.

But then again, since WWII, it's actually been the British who have adopted American tactics and military doctrine. The current British military is actually intentionally modelled after the US military in order to merge into the US military in times of war. The Gulf War and the Invasion of Iraq are examples, the British use the same communications systems and unit organization/ tactics to be able to work seamlessly when under US command. In the Invasion of Iraq in 03, the UK military units were under command of the US Marines.

And not to rag on the British military, but I don't see where the idea that their military is superior comes from.

I agree, after all Indonesia developed a crucial component of the iPod, Cuba has a high standard of medical research and education through communism, which makes universities affordable to all.
England has a lot of freedom in stem cell research, China and Japan have electronics,
and Australia is the leading country in bio-mimic technology due to it's climate and despite being a coal-based country is also a leading developer in "green technology" and the list goes on and on.
We can all learn a thing or two from each other and the fact that people don't seem to care what company owns the result of their research or what country gets to claim it, as long as it happens shows a lot, especially when you account the fact they will travel to the ends of the earth to see it through.
