Music genres suck.

Something that bothers me is when people say "I hate country" or "I hate rap".

You don't hate the whole genre. You just hate what you've heard on the radio. That's unfair, since everything on the radio sucks nowadays. It'd be the same as me saying that I hate rock because all I ever hear on the radio is terrible songs by Nickelback or Fall Out Boy or your least favorite overplayed band.

Another thing that bugs me is when people say "modern music sucks". It's the whole radio effect again. You can't listen to the radio for 5 minutes and then compare it to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (or insert another favorite 30 year old masterpiece) or something. Even comparing older stations to modern ones isn't right, because the modern stations are still filtering through the crap.

40 years from now, when they have greatest hits from 40 years 80 years ago, you'll see what I was talking about.

Most genre dislike comes from bandwagoning or closemindedness.
It's rare you get someone who dislikes a genre for solid, logical reasons.

But to the poster, well said. It's very true. People say they hate a genre because they haven't heard anything from it that they have enjoyed. I personally never say I hate a genre. I've liked at LEAST one song from every single genre of music.

It depends how long you mean by the 'past few years', but it usually takes a few years for a true masterpiece to pan out and become apparent anyways.

In that case we can't ever say we dislike something at all.
We can say we dont like something because of our experiences, we just cant say we hate ALL of it.

In a musical sense, we can say "I don't like any country song i have heard" but we can't say "I hate country music"

The only music I hate is that untalented crap where they get a simple beat, repeat it over and over again, and get some women to say some gibberish that sounds slightly sexual.

Repeat, repeat, repeat. More and more of this crap comes out every day, I wonder how anyone can tell them apart.
Generic rappers piss me off as well. Their music has zero originality.

Lately, i've noticed more acoustic-guitars, jazzy singers, and all that stuff on the radio, which is way more welcome than something that just sounds like it's been forced through a win98 computer.
