Looks don't mean anything. An ice-pick can inflict wounds that look harmless, but can be several inches deep and fatal. Thankfully, Ozcar's wound was only 2 1/2 inches deep and not near vital organs. Slash wounds can look horrendous, but generally aren't fatal since there's less penetration into the body.

Ozcar takes TKD, not Karate. But the truth is that even an experienced Martial Artist will have a tough time defending against a stabbing or edged weapon, bare-handed. (And that's putting it mildly).

But a lot of folks think that an experienced martial artist can easily disarm a knifer without taking ANY injury himself. Most of the time, you do the best you can. Just like in your case.

well, this topic got big here, and I figured my reply would be lost in the sea of spam that this was sure to generate, so I replied to the one in Latingrounds, but either way, at least you are safe, and an ipod is replaceable, unlike your life.

You should try to have a minor weapon with you, even a wooden stick or a bat, just in case man, seriously, I never leave home without a blunt (albeit legal or insconpicuous) object close by. My wallet has a chain attached to it just so I can wrap it around my knuckles if needed. you know, ANYTHING, so you are not bare-handed.

Thats just dumb though. No matter how tough someone thinks they are, it's dumb to dick around in a city at midnight with valuable possessions with you if you don't have a weapon.

My city is one of the safest yet I still don't fuck around. I'm surrounded by illegal immigrants, meth heads, and Russians. They ones who live close to me know I have guns though so they don't fuck with me. But I still have to watch my girlfriend walk back from her car every night at 5 in the morning just in case.

Thats my point, you have to be prepared for that shit. That dude could have killed Ozcar if he was determined to. Ozcar good have lost his life instead of just his ipod, and there wasn't anything Ozcar could really do to defend himself because he had no weapons.
