its from a book im writting on this very subject
it may or may not be of some help
Life is a road. . .stretching from here to infinity
The choices you make at the beginning of your walk effect which path you take, so one must be wary not to take someone else's path, for their destruction and yours are linked.
Time to time, you may get halted on your walk, and may even have to sit down for a time. But from the time you first stand and take your step, to the time you lay down and continue your journey without the flesh you must, never walk backwards. . .for then you are traveling blind. . .not knowing what opportunities lay before you, or what disaster looms over the horizon.
Stand proud and walk strong! Let not others halt you, and let not the past distract you!
go forth and walk Your path, To Infinity!

My postive theory is that there is no meaning of life, but we all still have it...
Possibly mini-bacteria form up from the soil and compress and compact enough to form a life form, which eventually evolved into a human...
Well, probably not, but, you get the gist.

It has no meaning, but not in some bleach-drinking nihilist way "life is meaningless".

Seriously?
Nobody knows, so untill we do, treat each other like we would like to be treated ourselfs. No man is greater than I, no man is lesser than I, rah, rah, rah. Also try and leave the planet in a good condition for the next lot of people who come along and try to find out.

Despite what several posts say there is a meaning of life, but its kind of complicated. paradox-ish really.
The meaning of life is to find the meaning of life.

Life is an enigma, and a paradox. It contridicts itself to many times for a single person to comprehend. Life's only superior is Time. Therefore, many other things must be understood before we can even fathom to understand it. Theories can be made, but in reality, none of them are any more true than the others right now. I mean this literaly. Yes, some logicaly make more sense than others, but Philosophy is about thinking outside of the box. Logic is really of no use when it comes to this, because there is no possible way to prove this. Even if the world recognizes a universal theory, it will always be argued. Life is not based on facts, it's based on aspects.

Life is what you make of it. Depending upon how hard you work at something (within reason)
A good example would be someone like William Wallace, or a negitive example would be the Terrorists.
Though our choices and actions, do we shape our world, for better or for worse
(in today's case worse)

Before we analyze the meaning of life, let us analyze life itself. Life is a state of mentality in carbon based lifeforms. These lifeforms are created out of basic amino acids, creating DNA chains, allowing us to think, speak and do.
Now, in the early days of life, the only purpose was to reproduce. Back then the planet was not populated enough and needed more inhabitants. Through reproduction and mutation caused by the continued advance of generations, the species "evolved" into something with more intelligence and more meaning to stay alive.
Now, we don't really have a problem with underpopulation and carrying genetic lines. We just reproduce. Now, what have we been doing, other than killing each other? We have been researching. We have advanced since the 1950, the 1970s and even the 1990s.
Therefore, the meaning of life is to research towards something new or, if you are incapable of that, reproduce to create offspring that can.
Now, what are we researching? The question that you asked: what is the meaning of life. All of these discoveries tell us more and more about ourselves until we eventually discover why we exist.
Clearer or worse?

The meaning of life is to find the meaning of life.
That's why I said its confusing. I will try to explain as best I can, but it still may not make sense.
Everybody lives and throughout their lives, they look for its meaning. A search which shows you sides of things you never knew existed, sides of YOU you never knew existed. Such a journey contains so much knowledge and understanding, it practicaly blows your mind. I don't know how to explain any further, but you are supposed to look for a meaning, something that will take so long, but is really the best thing you've done. I know, I don't get it either.

The point of life is to evolve and continue the spieces, in this physical world. Like all improvements one can make in life: Devloping job skills, forming relationships, and enjoying life (plasure, ie eating good food, and having sex, and using the mind having a great day, fighting opponents in war ect). all involve with physically bringing resources to yourself to make life easier, ie getting a spouse, having kids. That's the purpose of the physical life, to do things that plasure self, like art and sex, so that it encourages one to stay alive longer.
Sprituality I don't know. Maybe there is life after death, reincarnation, Jesus, Allah. Who knows. only the dead know. So the purpose in life is as that fellow said 42, on off on off on off on off. But then what do I know. I'm a Burger Flipper-Dishwasher.

It isn't an impossible question to answer, and for good reason. I could give you the best answer you ever heard, but you probably wouldn't believe me, or else you'd trample it.

It is an interesting questions ini that we have to ask our selves. What is the benefit of being alive than being an inanimate object. Therefore, I believe life started out as a freak accident but once instinct set in, it became the purpose to just keep living.

We can't understand the meaning of everything yet, because our brain just isn't evolved enough yet
Trying to find the meaning of life is like a rabbit that's trying to learn math, it isn't possible
Only through evolution may we one day find out...
And btw, what's the point in asking yourself what the meaning of life is? Ah, the beauty of free will and consciousness... There's no point, but man still asks himself that same question over and over again...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the meaning of life is death.
Why do we do things?
What makes us do things?
Our mortality. If people were immortal, they would just wait till tomorrow to do things. People want to have some things done before their time here ends. So our death is the only thing that drives us to doing stuff.

To be honest I think the real question to life is not what is the 'meaning' of life, but what is the EXPERIENCE of life. Joseph Campbell once said that qusetion and it really made me wonder...

What is our meaning of life, for nobody know's the real answer! Being Atheist, I can't really count the whole "Earn your heaven ticket" theory. So I've come to my own.
Self-Gratification
We don't know what happens after life, only what happens while in it. My personal theory on the meaning of life is to enjoy yourself, reflect on moments past and gain from them. In the end on your deathbed you have something real to look back on.
If you have something you can be proud of, then you have lived.

To over anaylze everything to the point were we actually believe we can make a impact on anything outside of our ideas of our own perception of a natural state of being.
Faith tramples all reason, logic, and common sense.

this is a question that only human beings ask. the animals and plants don't ask because it is impossible for most of them to carry out complex and abstract thought. the meaning of life, i believe, is completely relative. for an example of this i will use myself. my life is solely lived to find amusement and create amusement for myselfin the form of writing (for now) , and if others find my shit amusing, then it makes me that much happier, because i actually contributed to a small faction of humanity. Everyone has a meaning for their lives, or else they commit suicide. the only truly universal meaning of life is, as was stated before is to reproduce.

We are here for three things.
1) To kill the damn Canadians.
2) To spread our genes.
3) To kill the damn Communists.
And lastly,
D) To drink as much beer as humanly possible.

No. I can see what you're trying to get at, but your phrasing is wrong. I think we exist to not only enjoy life, but to make life enjoyable for others, and to leave having made some sort of dent, even the tiniest one, in the world. A positive legacy of some sort...
