i really dont get this idea of "patriotism" that people like to hold true to themselfs, i mean you were born on the same piece of earth that we are all on but just because it has a different name it should be special to you.

we all live on the same planet and the same earth but for some reason it has to be "superior" to some peoples minds and all that. Kind of like racism, were all the same race but apparantly being a different colour is something to be proud of or hate...

either way generalisations are stupid but then again most of mankind who stick by generalisations are stupid also. Hell if we had these guys in charge we would probably be wiped out by now, reminds me back to the days of thw witch hunter.

Not the sole reason, but the BIGGEST single contributor to allied victory. That is a historical certainty. Meanwhile Britain couldn't even supply it's own war material during the war, and couldn't even fight the Japanese, meanwhile the US fought simultaneously in Europe and the pacific, all while paying the bill of Russia, France, the UK and it's commonwealth, and the rest of the combined allies.

Britain did fight the japanese in South east asia. And actually 400,000 japanese army deaths were inflicted by the commonwealth. The US inflicted 450,000 army deaths. Howether the US did also decimate the japanese navy on top of the 450,000 army deaths. So I'm in no way saying that Britain did even nearly as much to the japanese.

But The commonwealth did dominate the Atlantic and Med. Were the majority of Axis ships and submarines were sunk.
The commonwealth sank more Battleships, Cruisers, Destroyers and Submarines than the US. America only sunk more Aircraft carriers than Britain. (3 more)

On top of the Atlantic, The commonwealth were heavily involved in western europe. and more involved than the US in the med campaign, Africa, Middle east (allthough not much happened) and SE Asia. Australia also was fairly involved in parts of the Pacific campaign

The Commonwealth also supplied bases all around the world enabling the allies to gain the stategic upperhand.

And Not to forget the Soivet Union who actually bore the Brunt of the Germans.

Germans (educated ones) recognize America was the largest contributing factor to allied victory in WWII, and that America defeating Germany was actually better for the future of their country, than had they won. They also admit that their country wouldn't be as prosperous or free as it is today had the US not protected them from the Soviets and poured billions of dollars of money and aide into Germany to restart their economy and pull them out of post-war debt. Even though the US did this for your country even more so, but your tainted British account of history has erased this inconvenient, British pride-shattering truth.

Actually Germans generally think the Russians were the largest contribuating factor to the allied victory and the 'Educated ones' have a more realistic view on WW2, that neither the Russians, America or the Commonwealth were the largest contribuating factor. And that actually it was equally all three in different ways.

Germans also recognize that if the US wasn't there to keep the imperialistic tendencies of the rest of the allies in check, chances are France, the UK, and definitely Russia would have enforced their will upon the vulnerable civilians of western Europe after the War. But no, the US instead rebuilt these countries free of charge and the only thing America asked for in return was plots in which to bury American casualties.

There is no way the UK would of tried to enforce anything on western europe.
Look at the napolionic wars, If I remember correctly The evil imperialistic european allies restored France after the defeat of napoleon and didn't spilt it up between the allies.

Also Look at World war 1 ok the UK didn't exactly rebuild Germany but Britain and the others didn't take over it.

Can we please let this argument be put to rest? There is no point in arguing over which nation is "better". What happened in the past is in the past, so leave it in the past unless you use it to suggest an improvement for the future. Pointing out flaws is all well and good, but it's pointless unless you suggest a way to correct those flaws. Bragging, insults, and jinjoism will get us nowhere. Ok, I've read a lot of these posts, and I would like to say something in defense of both continents. I am American, but I have lived in Europe for 2 years, going on 3rd, and speak English, German, French, and I have visited Greece, Italy, France, England (and Ireland), and more. Just to clarify that so no-one can say I'm looking at this from only one side.

1. On one hand: Yes, Americans have the most powerful military in the world. Fine, dandy, great. If we tried, Europe could be a big pile of dust and skeletons, with some rifle shells and explosion marks dotting around it. Entire continents could be leveled, and no-one would have the power to stop us.

On the other hand: If Europe decided to try to, they could more than likely turn the United States of America into the exact same image as above. However, only if they worked together. Europe's countries aren't powerful enough individually to take on the U.S.A., but together they are at the very least twice as powerful.

Yet again: But, if America used tactics in their assaults on Europe, they could probably take out the banded-together European countries.

Then Again: When have Americans actually thought about using tactics, let alone USE them, ever since the end of World War II?

2. (No necessity for side taking on this one) World War II: Europeans, admit it, without the Americans you would be effectively Germanized. But Americans, admit it too, without the Europeans you would be a backwater country with Shamans and Native Americans doing Voodoo, let alone building Nuclear Bombs.

3. (Again no need for sides) Everyone is the same once you get past the skin color and religious beliefs (or their non-beliefs, to include atheists). Don't you forget it.

4. (No sides) Without America, the world would be a worse place. But without Europe, it would be even worser (please excuse bad grammar and spelling on that word) place. Europe has 9 out of 10 slots for the worlds top recycling countries. America comes in, "litter"ally, at about 20.

5. Europeans: Yes, quite a few Americans talk "tahk layke theas", but only in the southern states. In many Northern states, there are people with virtually no accent, and quite a few that actually have an English accent. THEY DO NOT ALL TALK LIKE RETARDS!

Americans: Neither do English, French, German, and Italians speak like retards. Each country has its own language, and when they speak English, whether it's their native language or a second language, or even a third, they carry over traits from their country only. For example, in Germany they have "ei" sounding like just "i", and "ie" sounding like just "e". They ALSO DO NOT TALK LIKE RETARDS! In fact, it is a true fact that America has more mentally retarded people living in it, even after taking percentages, so it's not just the actual size of the population.

In conclusion: Depending on your point of view, either Americans or Europeans could be the ones to blame for pretty much ANYTHING that goes wrong in the current times, but it is really just based on choice. Sure, America "started" the war on terrorism, but without the "Iraqi's" (later found to ACTUALLY not be from Iraq) assault of the World Trade Center, it would have not started for a loooooooong time.

And also, Bush is not retarded, just not the smartest person ever. He mainly got into presidential power by taking the hearts of the citizens of America, and by causing other competitors to look stupid (i.e. how he created a rumor that a lot of the others were for same sex marriage). Not all Americans are like that. Quite a few are, but not enough that they are significant.

Besides, European people and customs + American food and marketing ideas = (if it would happen) the best country in the world. Period. (In my point of view remember.)

The only reason I dislike America is because of the people who claim it to be amazing and "better than you", when the people who say that are actually the stupidest.

And, for the record, just because you're rich and powerful, doesn't mean you're the best country. Japan, Sweden, and other European countries far surpass the America of today by FAR.
