Why is sex censored?

Sex is private thats as far as ill go with it. But I do agree when GTA san adreas was out they wernt able to ban it over the fact your a gang member driveing by rivial gangs territory gunning them down and killing innocents in the proccess It was the fact that very two badly animated stick figures where "acting" out sex.

in some countries you can watch porn on public tv after a certain time (like midnight) it all depends on the culture, and oddly enough its the morally corrupt societies that try to censor the most.

It's loosely based on puritan culture which says that sexuality is for a couple and not public information. The truth is America and many other North American cultures tend to censor pretty heavily.

I agree censors can go to far and in some ways build a bubble around reality and media reality. On the other hand using choice words redundantly also gets old. I am glad that certain words stay off regular television but it does procreate a false image.

Many things that are "natural" are kept out of the open.

E.g. Death is very natural, so why don't we just throw dead bodies in a pile?

Also, maybe some people consider sex to be a very emotional, private matter. They don't think it is immoral per se, but it is thought to be something that deserves to be treated with respect.

Anyway, looking at modern American culture, it seems like sex is, in fact, out in the open to a great extent. Sex sells. Just as I'm writing this response, I see a banner ad on the top of the page with a woman's bare body being shown, save for her head, clothed in high heels and a thong. Doesn't seem hidden to me.

The problem here is society's standards. Because we live in a humanist society, there is no truth, thanks to relativeism. However, the dark side is you must try to cater to everybody, and lots of people don't want to see sex on TV, because of their values. Just because yours are diffrent does not mean I will compromise mine.

Plus, sex on TV decreases advertising revenue. People remember the sex, not the damn deoderant ad....

Get real, sex does not cause horrible diseases.
People who have a disease that can be transmitted sexually, can pass it on. That is the truth.
If you have no diseases & your partner is also 'clean' having sex will not cause either of you to get "horrible diseases like AIDS".
Being Sexually active should be done with care. Take percautions to protect yourself, there are many different types of STD's. But if your healthy & your partner is healthy a disease isn't going to magically appear, just because you've had sex.

well, not everyone is gunna want to do that you know..
and with he pr0n... that is why there is ppv (pay per view) and websites and such..
if they were to air it on live television it would shock millions ... and .... turn a couple thousand on, but the channels are a way of still seeing this "natural" thing, and not have to feel bad about it.. and when all else fails... make your own ;)

Frankly I couldn't care less, this question seems just so unimportant compared to other things which are going on in the world is all, sorta of like with cops that make road blocks and check people's licenses for the heck of it when there is a robbery going on 2 miles south of the area.

Sex is censored because mainstream religions have portrayed it to be immoral. Also, politicians use the thinkofthechildren platform because it gets them votes. Making sex look bad gets votes, and that's why we have all of this bullshit regulation.
