Well here is a one of the debates i will be hosting since i think it is pretty fun, if you want to be in, just take a side or "objective" and debate on, there are a few rules:
No flaming.
No bad mouthing.
Let someone explain something if you think it is inappropriate.
No racial slurs, and the other forum rules as well.
Topic:
Oil companies in the United States. What kinds of environmental, political, social, and scientific effects is this having on our country and the world?
Now since i am hosting this, i have to wait for someone else to reply before i can, its a rule, so everyone have fun. If a point you are making is hard to believe use a source thru some sort of means, not needed though.

Even though about half of our oil supply is domestic, we are still too dependant on foreign oil. It is for this reason that I support the development of fuel cell technology to use as an alternative energy source. Plus in doing so, we would be cutting off the money flow to the Middle East for overpriced oil.

Alejandro1,
You make a very good point, but sadly, what is happening is new fuel cell technology, along with technology that is still being researched is coming out and the oil companies are buying the rights, then destroying them so that no one can have them. GM for instance IS working on fuel cell technology, but it wont be released, my guess, until oil is no longer a profit-to-net business.
Dear Viewers,
Not only are oil companies making sure that better more efficient means of transportation be made, they are also hindering the growth of our economy. If you look back, Oil companies are in control of some heavy pieces of United States legislature, and therefore have their own strong say in matters. For instance, Oil companies have been found to lobby for war in Vietnam, and god knows where else:

But we have to remember that the mid east oil goes to japan and western europe... until those countries turn into non-oil needing areas, the mid east will be the economic power it is today...
although africa would be needing oil soon... cuz they have to go through the whole 'evolution of civilization' sounds worse than what i mean... such as start with the industrial economy the rest of the world used about 50-100 years ago... then have africa slowly break from that until they can afford the new electricity making technology, the rest of the world would have been using...
OR we could jsut give africa that stuff and wait for their countries to join ours...
probably wont happen until the upper-teir nations drop dramatically...
