if you had to join one of the military divisions, what would you choose and why?
for mei wold choose the air fource.
the reason, i dont have to worry about getting killed by my enemy. i could fly a jet that comes and goes in a second without anytrace eccept for the destruction it created.
or work on the computers that launch a rocket to an enemy base while i am a few miles at sea.

You mean what Military BRANCH.
Divisions are just a level of organization of an individual branch. The Marines and Army have multiple divisions each.

I think you watch too much GI JOE.

i have to say army. infantry seems more appealing, something about being in a vehicle bothers me even though i would have the protection of armour plating.

More like his distorted view about the role of the military. "pushing buttons and launching missiles at enemy bases n stuff"

I'll be joining the Royal Marines next year. But, I don't really like aircraft so Air Force is the only one I wouldn't serve in.

Military is my backup backup plan. First my Degree and career in Geography. If that fails, police. If that fails, then probably army.

Coast Guard. I'f I'm going to serve my country, I'm going to actually serve and protect it instead of serve as a pawn for imperialist bastards.

I would join the navy. My eyesight is not good enough for air force, so it isn’t an option, and I would rather work with technology then kill with a gun. Plus I hear that there are many more opportunities for advancement in the navy if you have an understanding of computers and technology, which I have, since I am a programmer/analyst and have a decent understanding about the hardware aspect of computers too. Even in a full scale war, where large navies were fighting each other, I would still probably choose navy.

I would have probably chosen army over police...
Anyway, having backup plans is great, congratulations!

Eyesight is only important in the Air Force for certain jobs, but not IT related...
Advancement opportunities in either the Navy or the Air Force are going to be limited; we are not facing a recruitment crisis. In fact our manning is being cut. The USAF and USN are both exceptionally technologically advanced, more so than the Army and USMC. Afterall, the USAF does have Space Command (we had it before Buzz Lightyear!)

I would say the marines. When it comes to preemptive assaults they're basically the elites. Though, I suppose every branch has their own forte.

Except they really do do that kind of stuff...and not from just a few miles, but possibly from the other side of the world...military technology is so powerful, we can guide missles by lasers that can accurately hit the proverbial needle in the hay stack, or a literal pin head on the floor/ground somewhere, take your pick.
GI Joe, does, however distort things...it's a cartoon....
Personally, I'd go airforce...just the concept of flying planes is exciting. What red blooded American male WOULDN'T want do control something that fast and that powerful?

I'm fully aware of that. But It's not as simple as that at all. The way he worded it sounded like something a kid would say while playing with GI JOES on his living room floor.

You know, only a small amount of the people in the Air Force actually pilot, let alone FLY IN aircraft, the vast majority of occupations in the Air Force revolve around menial support and administrative jobs. Plus, the qualifications to become a fighter pilot are incredibly strict. You have to have a ridiculously high IQ to be able to process all of the information on your displays, be able to navigate, and be able to fight simultaneously. Even incredibly gifted people drop out of flight school because they just can't handle the stress.
I'm still thinking about joining the military but if I did I do I will join the Marine Corps and enlist as an officer, maybe a infantry platoon leader 2nd lieutenant. I actually got approved for officer status when I took the military ASVAB test but my friends and parents talked me out of it.

When was the last time the Puddle Pirates were used to invade another nation? Somebody up top still uses the Coast Guard to defend the United States, and at the rate things are going, they couls almost become our last line of defense if we start another sour war....

With State Defense Forces, the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard, they are far from our last line of defense. Besides, if America was ever invaded there would most likely be another draft and people like you would get called up.

good point.
THe best part is you've got everything you need on that boat, a mess, a bunk, flushing toilets & lots of hot water for showers. Cold beer, oh that's right there's no beer on American naval vessels. that's not a problem for us Canadians thank the invisible, omniputent, all knowing & seeing creator.

Well the BBS has been plagued with some people of...how could I put this nicely...slower minds lately. And he probably does play with GI Joes on the floor in his living room.

I know....and I, personally, feel that I could do it. I thrive off stress and high pressure situations and I can process various materials/mechanics simultaneously (possibly a result of years of playing video games with difficult screen displays?? lol).

I would be best suited in Intelligence or Logistics I think, of the two I definately favour the Intelligence role.
