Why does the world hate America? 2003-05-03 00:12:37 Reply

I've noticed the large number of Americans posting in the Politics forum, and how they always seem to flame the "foreigners" whenever they have an opinion or two to express. So, as one human being to another, I'm am directing this question to all the non-Amereicans wehave here at NG...

America has taken it upon itself to police the world. It has pushes it's ideology on the un-willing. Floods many countries with weapons. Creates terror and savagery. Uses people to fight off it's enemies, only to cast them aside when their enemie falls.

17 million deaths can be atributed to America itself, or the result of American interference. To put that in perspective, thats more people killed then by Hitler, and more people killed then by Stalin.

Thats not even to comment on American culture. You're percieved as arogant, self-rightous, annoying, and ignorant of the world around you.

Thats part of the reason the world hates you.

Why does the rest of the world hate (or strongly dislike) America and its people??::

People see America as a arrogant (the French said that) warmongering (The Germans said that too) greedy, capatilist, overpowerful blah blah blah. I'll be frank, America is a long way from being anywhere near perfect. But I'll be damned if anyone can list a country being any better than America.

In a lot of the countries (not really in Europe), the people have third grade educations and believe everything that their dictators tell them. Hell, sometimes they have a class at their school to hate the US that is controlled by the government. The dictator can control the minds of these people and can get them to undertake what he wants.

I'm trying to say is we can't always blame ourselves for everything because some things are out of our control. Though we may act arrogant, selfish, and bossy at times, our good side is swallowed by these dictators and hate is used against us to increase his power.

Another thing, over in the Middle East, many Arab countries hate us because we only support Israel, which is the only democracy in that part of the world.

You admit that Europeans don't have "third grade educations" (most education systems in Europe are actually better than the American system(acording to international organisations)) then how can you explain the majority of Europeans' feelings towards America?

I'm trying to say is we can't always blame ourselves for everything because some things are out of our control. Though we may act arrogant, selfish, and bossy at times, our good side is swallowed by these dictators and hate is used against us to increase his power.

It being a "democracy" does not give you a reason to arm it, this is just another example of America forcing it's ideas and values on other countries.

This has got to be one of the steamiest heaps of smoldering, moral equivalent dreck seen here in a long time.

Dredd: Guerrilla news is no more credible then say Rightwingsnews or Freerepublic. They all will print facts but only as long as they support there own agendas.

Clock: O God where to begin. First we ARE the world police force, nobody else is capable of doing so. Horrible shit happens all the time. When nobody does anything we get things like Rwanda. Hundreds of thousands of people machetted to death. I saw, fuck yeah we should stop that kind of shit. When we do stop it we get places like former Yugoslavia. These crazy sons of bitches have hated each other for centuries. They still aren't on each other's Christmas list but they aren't shooting each other. For the first time in history, this is being done by a system that does not require killing more of them then they would kill of each other (Tito, USSR, ect.) Lastly we have when our stalwart allies try this we have Ivory Coasts with a Chamberlininan peace accord which gives everything to the most horrible groups because they are doing the most horrible stuff damage which, oops, doesn't keep them from going right on doing that stuff.

17 Million huh? Spread over a 220 some odd year history that's not that much. How many Ukrainians did Stalin kill in 1932 via starvation alone? Never mind the purges and gulags. What about all the people killed when America was tromping back and forth through Europe in two world wars? Who's account are they put on, the American's? Howabout maybe place the blame on the guys who started the wars.

Culture, moot point. Don't like coke, don't drink it. Don't like Baywatch, don't watch it. EOD

Nitro: Turn off the bottle and open a window. Breath in that fresh Brooklyn air for a minute. Now you might be able write a cognizant post.

Zmdude: Yes look at the dixie chicks, see how they are suffering from a lack of getting shot or even jailed. Hey, they have a right to say whatever they want and not face government sanction. They are not free to piss off their fans and then be upset when said fans stopped buying their albums.

Guess WHO he is?

..He was born in 1928. At the tender age of 14 he joined the Hagana - an underground military organization. During the 1948 War of Independence, he commanded an infantry company in the Alexandroni Brigade. In 1953, he founded and led the "101" special commando unit which carried out retaliatory operations. He was appointed commander of a paratroop brigade in 1956 and fought in the Sinai Campaign. During 1958-62, he served as an infantry brigade commander and then as Infantry School Commander. He was appointed Head of the Northern Command Defence Force in 1964 and Head of the Army Training Branch in 1966. He participated in the 1967 Six Day War as commander of an armored division. In 1969 he was appointed Head of the Southern Command Defence Force. He resigned from the army in 1973, but was recalled to active military service in the October 1973 Yom Kippur War to command an armored division. He led the crossing of the Suez Canal which brought about victory in the war. He served in the Army for more than 25 years, retiring with the rank of Major-General.

Next he entered politics, and was duely elected to the Knesset in December 1973, but resigned a year later, serving instead as security adviser to Prime Minister. He was again elected to the Knesset in 1977 on the Shlomzion ticket then ppointed Minister of Agriculture. In 1981 he was appointed Defense Minister, serving in this post during the Lebanon War, which brought about the destruction of the PLO terrorist infrastructure in Lebanon. In November 1981, he brought about the first strategic cooperation agreement with the U.S. and widened defense ties. He also helped bring thousands of Jews from Ethiopia through Sudan. From 1983-84, he served as Minister without Portfolio, and from 1984-1990 as Minister of Trade and Industry. In this capacity, he concluded the Free Trade Agreement with the U.S. in 1985. From 1990-1992, he served as Minister of Construction and Housing and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee on Immigration and Absorption. Following the fall of the Soviet Union and the waves of (jewish and christian)immigration from Russia, he initiated the construction of 144,000 apartments. From 1992-1996, he served as a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. In 1996, he was appointed Minister of National Infrastructure. In 1998 he was appointed Foreign Minister and in September 1999 was elected Chairman of the Likud Party. He also served as a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. On February 6, 2001, he was elected Prime Minister. He presented his government to the Knesset on March 7, 2001, and after calling early elections, was re-elected January 28, 2003.

Who is he? ....Ariel Sharon of-course.

Good point, but you left out the part where he oversaw the massacres at the Sabra and Chatilla refugee camps (as Defense Minister in 1982) and was forced to resign.

The U.S. gives a human butcher like Sharon state dinners and then wonders why the world doesn't take our "War on Terrorism" seriously.

Alright, here goes.

The French dislike you because you are petty and cannot accept defeat. When Chirac announced his stance against war President Bush ignored himand put him down in a pathetic and childish manner. He virtually ignored Chirac and 'dag up dirt' as it were, to make him look bad. As the final insult, the Americans put forward a vote to the UN asking for permission, basically to start a war with Iraq. When the French said they would veto it, the US ignored them completely, didn't bother having as vote and went right in.

The liberal Europeans dislike you for exactly the same reasons. The UN veto is to be used and accepted. If America vetoed a mothion and the French ignored it completely there would be outcry, and rightly so. However, the US can completely defy the French veto. Even some Europeans that are pro-war strongly dislike the way the US has gone aainst it.

The Spanish just generally hate you, really. They are against war 94% at last count. Their Prime Minister is out at the next election, effectively and they dislike you for making them associated with the war.

The Africans absolutely despise the West because we treat them like shit, give them no money for large aamounts of work and employ 5-year-olds to work in factories.

The South Americans hate us for the same reason.

Some Muslins want all Americans shot because they think everything going on now is a part of the war on Islam.

Arabs dont like you because you are currently attacking them.

Palestinians dont like you. Wonder why.

I hope this answers your question. People generally dont like America because, as a nation it is arrogant, cocky and hypocritical.

I see that the people that agree have very valid and intelligent arguments, but on the other side, there's the people that dont agree, and from what i saw, it was pretty much a bunch of bull. This thread shows exactly why people dislike the u.s., thank you for making such pertinent arguments.

The US has been the cause for almost 3 million deaths in Iraq alone. I don't know how much more have died by the had of the US elsewhere, but 17 million sounds about right. I am aware that Stalin had killed more than us, but I know we have killed more than Hitler. And we've killed way more than Saddam ever has.

One reason why so many people dislike America is because we are constantly making actions for our own benefit that, unfortunately, affect other countries aside from us. The American administration doesn't seem to realize that we aren't the only country in the world.

Basically, we are constandly funding terrorists and other groups to fight different groups for us (usually for financial reasons). Then this makes these funded groups (who are often extremists) stronger and a threat to other parts of the world (which makes other countries angry). Then we cast them off and stop funding them when they've done our dirty work for us, or start screwing with them or their allies in a similar manner (which makes them angry).

Then if they become a threat to us, we fund more terrorists and groups to fight the previous ones (which angers the other half of the world that is inconvenienced by this). Then, when they've done our work for us again, we dump them and stop supporting them once again (which makes them angry as well)----and the process goes on and on and on.

After all this, we wind up with two sets of anti-American terrorists who are stronger than they were before we got involved, and we've ticked of much of the world in the whole process (by putting these people in power).
-------

Basically, we are always screwing with the rest of the world for our own financial benefit, even when it affects the rest of the world (and even our allies) for the worst.

Then, what makes people particularly angry is the egotistical, ignorant views Americans often have of their own country even after these situations take place (which is sometimes not their own fault, but the fault of our biased media and propaganda----for example, the tainted water incident in Iraq, the Iranian Conflict, Iranian Contra, the US supporting the Taliban, etc. are often not even shown to us because it isn't "good publicity.").
------------
Here's some more information for those who think that there is "no country better than the US."

The US makes up only 3% of the world's population, yet it produces over 50% of the world's waste, we use the most of the world's oil and electricity, etc.

Our country is still one of the most prejudice today:

Women get paid only 64% of what men do, and it'll be a long time before we get a woman president (many countries in Europe already have had one or have one now, such as Irland).

Black men get paid only 70% of what white men do and black women get paid only around 55% of what white men do. We still have much prejudice in the South, and we even have large racist groups such as the KKK still heavily active.

Europe and Asia has very little racism in comparison to us.

America is very homo-phobic as well. Gays are sometimes beaten to death here and are made to feel ashamed of their lifestyle (and they can't marry in most states). This never happens in Europe or Asia.

Ironically, we have the highest rate of gun-related (and violent) deaths in spite of being a "peaceful country."

We also have the highest rate of school shootings and violence among minors.

We use the most illegal substances (drugs) as well.

And our schools are surprisingly one of the easiest to pass (for those of you who joke about other countries only having a 3rd grade education). In many European countries, you have to go to school 6 days a week, and you must complete much more courses and "state tests" than you do here. And the big thing is that you don't get as many "chances" if you make any mistakes (which is why so many teens kill themselves if they don't pass some tests in, say Japan or Germany and such---this isn't necessarely a good thing, however. @_o').

And the list goes on and on.

So, we are the most wasteful, one of the most prejudice, the most "drugged out" (lol), and the most violent of the "peaceful countries" today.

So, in conclusion, we may not be "the worst" country.

But we are certainly not "the best," either.

So now we're actually bombing a country "just to see if they have weapons," when there are other dangerous anti-American countries that we know already have weapons of mass descruction....

And what is your good side?

Americans like to exercise our freedoms that many other nations don't have. We spread the idea of an independant economy, not an economic system where you work hard only to have all your wealth stripped by the dictator and keep you living in poverty; one where you can work hard to make your own living, retire with money put aside and live a happy life until you die. We exercise our freedom of speech, press, and assembly, to make the government know what we, the people, want as a whole and to make sure we're not being opressed by a dictator. We show support to other countries in need by sending food and other supplies to third-world countries, only to have them pushed away by a dictator who wants his own people dead. We stand together united during difficult times; when foriegners hijack planes, run them into buildings and kill 4000 of our innocent people, we put our differences aside and comfort each other. We take ridicule from other nations as we search out these terrorists, only to stop them from doing more harm to more innocent people. We rise as a country every morning, knowing, but not forgeting this incident, and move on strong to face new challenges of the nation and the rest of the world. Are we that evil which you speak of?

(yeah! nice use of sentence structure Ninja ;O)

It's also worth adding that Hollywood and US-production companies fund absolutely diabolical (racist, red-neck, self-righteous garbage) which is often excused as "merely entertainment", then churns out propaganda movies like Pearl Harbour and Black Hawk Down...

In America this causes undue patriotism which is easily harnessed by polititians for incessant warring, whilst in other countries, it only helps to strengthen the opponents of the "Americanized 1-World Government"

Do you even watch current legislation? Many nations have more freedoms then America, if not in the past, definetly now.

We spread the idea of an independant economy

Through violence and death.

not an economic system where you work hard only to have all your wealth stripped by the dictator and keep you living in poverty

Actaully you don't care about that, you've supported many dictators in the past. You don't mind dictators as long as they don't hurt your economy.

one where you can work hard to make your own living, retire with money put aside and live a happy life until you die.

Which explains why 13% of America is below the poverty line, which explains why American poverty rates are higher then Canada and most European nations. Right..

We exercise our freedom of speech, press, and assembly, to make the government know what we, the people, want as a whole and to make sure we're not being opressed by a dictator.

Again do you even follow current legislation? Besides, who needs a dictator to tell you what to do when you have coperate america to do that!

We show support to other countries in need by sending food and other supplies to third-world countries, only to have them pushed away by a dictator who wants his own people dead.

Dictators America has put in place.

We stand together united during difficult times; when foriegners hijack planes, run them into buildings and kill 4000 of our innocent people, we put our differences aside and comfort each other.

If by putting your differences aside you mean "killing arab looking people in blind nationalistic-racist rage," then yes you're absolutely right!

We take ridicule from other nations as we search out these terrorists, only to stop them from doing more harm to more innocent people.

America, innocent? Hahaha! Right

We rise as a country every morning, knowing, but not forgeting this incident, and move on strong to face new challenges of the nation and the rest of the world.

What are these quotes straight from some sort of fascist propaganda machine?

Are we that evil which you speak of?

No we certainly would not, we stopped the invasion of Britain on our own. Eventually Russia would have defeated Germany and probably occupied the whole of Europe.

ps: I did have a response to the "What's bad about America" guy, but Explorer crashed and I'm not fucking doing it again. I'll sum it up in one word. "Bullshit"

Just as another random fact, there are 44million illiterates in America. Aussi, beaucoup de hommes ne sais pas quoi je dit. Nobody speaks another language. They expect other people to know english.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! Thats so true! I really hate when people insult minoritys by saying that they cant speak english very well. I mean, those people had to learn english as a second language, most americans cant even speak english well. It really pisses me off.

I really doubt that we would be speaking german, except for a couple of u-boats going up the Saint-Laurent river(wich, by the way, we stopped very easily) we were completely safe. Please dont try and take all the credit of ending WWII by yourself, it was a combined effort. You guys just came at the end and killed millions of japanese with a nuke. If that isnt terrorism, i dont know what is. Dont try and tell me it was the only way, because nuking entire cities while being setted comfily a million miles in the air is never the answer.

· 3,000,000 Vietnamese murdered over the course of about 30 years of US aggression.

· Well over 300,000 Japanese were massacred when the US raided Tokyo and dropped nuclear bombs on the urban civilian areas of Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

· 600,000 civilians were killed in Cambodia by US bombing between 1969 and 1975.

· Over 500,000 people were killed in Laos when America subjected civilians to “secret bombing” from 1964 to 1973, dropping over two million tons of bombs on the country. Over one fourth of the population also became refugees.

· 100,000 people were murdered in South Korea prior to the Korean War by a brutal repression supported by US forces in 1945. This includes between 30,000 and 40,000 killed during the suppression of a peasant revolt on Cheju Island.

· Up to 4,500,000 Koreans were killed from 1951 to 1953 during America’s massive slaughter in the Korean War.

· 200,000 were murdered when the Philippines were conquered by American forces. (This took place just over 100 years ago.)

· 23,000 people were slaughtered in Taiwan by US-backed, trained, equipped, and funded forces (Chiang’s Nationalist army) during the late 1940s.

· 700,000 Indonesians (mostly landless peasants) were murdered in 1965 when the US armed and supported General Suharto.

· 200,000 were slaughtered in East Timor in 1975 by General Suharto with US support.

· 750,000 civilians were driven from their homes in East Timor by Indonesian forces in 1999 and 10,000 were killed.

· Over 1,700,000 Iraqis have been killed by US bombings and sanctions, mostly women and children.

· Over 1,000,000 lives were lost during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s in which the US used direct force and supported Hussein and Iraq.

· 35,000 Kurds were killed, 3,500 villages were destroyed, and between 2,000,000 and 3,000,000 became homeless as a result of aggression by Turkey with US arming and training in the 1990s.

· Over 1,000,000 people were killed in Afghanistan’s civil war from 1979 to 1992, in which the US strongly supported the Moujahedeen, the most violent and sadistic of the forces. (This also set the stage for the CIA-backed Taliban to attain power.)

· 45,000 people were killed in South Lebanon since 1982 by Israel, always armed and supported by the US.

· Thousands have been killed in Palestine and millions (in both Palestine and Lebanon) were made refugees by US-backed Israel.

· Over 150,000 were killed in Greece when America advised, equipped, and financed violent interventions in the late 1940s and late 1960s.

· Over 75,000 civilians were killed and over one million refugees were created in El Salvador from 1980 to 1994 when the US intensely supported the efforts of a brutal regime and its death squads to eliminate a popular uprising.

· 40,000 civilians were killed by the US-backed National Guard in Nicaragua over the course of almost 50 years.

· 30,000 lives were killed by the US contras in Nicaragua from 1979 to 1989.

· 200,000 Guatemalans were slaughtered from 1960-1990s by a military apparatus trained, armed, funded, and assisted by America.

· 50,000 Haitians were killed when the US military destroyed a peasant uprising in 1915.

· Between 4,000 and 5,000 Haitians were killed in the early 1990s by US-established forces.

· Thousands were killed in the Dominican Republic during the 1960s when US and Dominican troops crushed a pro-Bosch rebellion.

· Over 3,000 were killed and countless others injured by US interventions in Cuba.

· Hundreds were killed or injured when the US invaded Grenada in 1983.

· Over 50,000 Somalians were killed between 1978 and 1990 by US-supported Siad Barre.

· Up to 10,000 more Somalians were killed by US troops during America’s “humanitarian mission” in 1993.

· In the US-supported Rwandan genocide, an estimated 800,000 people were killed in just 100 days in 1994.

· Over 300,000 were killed and 80,000 were crippled in Angola from a US-supported civil war.

· Tens of thousands were killed and up to 200,000 were tortured in Chad by Hissen Habre with US support during the 1980’s.

· 1,500,000 were killed between 1980 and 1988 in southern Africa by the US-armed South Africa.
