Quick Question: Does anyone know why Flash 8's Filters can only be applied to text, Movie Clips, and Buttons?

Why can't we apply them to graphic symbols? Is it because Graphic symbols play in the authoring environment, unlike MCs or Buttons? I'm thinking it has something to do with Flash not being able to handle rendering the filter every frame on the stage. Does anyone know for sure?

Just out of curiosity.

I actually wondered the same thing. but i never really cared. if its such a big deal just change your graphics to MCs. but i think you probably figured that already.

I never got the point of graphics and have used MC's for everything always. Or did I just say something incredibly stupid?

nope. graphics are fairly useless.

Apart from the fact they run at the same time as the timeline

Graphics are useless in games, and in animation you only really need them if you're exporting as a video file... so just use movie clips

I only make my symbols graphics because you can see the sequence of the graphic when you press enter on the timeline on the mainstage. Unlike a movieclip where you have to test the movie in order to see the sequence.

You could'nt understand how annoyed I am with my host... I'm not doing this my host is and even though its free I dont't think it mentioned ads like this in the ToS, is it illegal? Anyway I've lost tons of hits since I switched (returning visits are down by 40%). And its causing loss of affiliates such as yours. Just so everyone knows I'm not a hacker. I cant get payed hosting yet, but I will soon, hopefully ADM.

Phew...

You are better off using photoshop and fireworks because filters lag intensively on computers.

graphics save your .swf size. Also, they help you organize your _root timeline better withouth a bunch of keyframes..

That's what I'm saying; they run much better on pineapples.

Yeah, but you have to compile the movie to see how the animation syncs with the main timeline. And sometimes, when you are compiling a huge movie (like the one I"m working on) flahs takes 3 minutes to compile.

Graphics are better than Movie Clips for most animation purposes. You can control their function and they sync with the timeline.

Movieclips are better than Graphics for games(obviously), filters(obviously), and loops and organizing things, as they have their own timelines.

They both are useful in respective situations.
