I HATE THEM! I know they need money but WAY TOO MANY! if everyone could throw in like 1-2 dollars then their problems would be solved. this could work!

You know, this topic hasnt been argued for a while, but as soon as one person makes a topic about this type of thing, a couple others jump on the band wagon and make there own topic about it

The worst part is the SPYWARE ACTIVE X INSTALLER, that is a serious violation, popups are one thing, but browser hijacking software is a whole new ballpark...

The Active X installer always shows up like off my screen and just a little bit to be able to drag. I hate the weather thing as well

I reccomend a program called Spybot: Search and Destroy for dealing with spyware, it is much better than Ad-Aware.

The best thing to do is right click the item in your taskbar and select close, it's easier than dragging the window from the corner.

You guys are complaining about Pop-up?

Newgrounds uses 600 Gigs of bandwidth a DAY!

Do you even know what bandwidth is, and how much it costs?

Stop whining, just close them...it takes like two seconds....

Don't bitch about pop up ads!

Those ads help keep Ng on the internet.

The site is already plastered with banners, Yahoo probably uses close to a petabyte a day, and I don't see them uploading spyware to my PC.

Oh, and your signature image is of poor quality, photoshop probably isn't for you.

The Popups take up bandwith for loading times. If we all just gave 1-2 dollars it's all gone

THE WORST OF ALL IS THE POPUPS THAT SPAWN POPUPS THAT SPAWN POPUPS and so on

Only 2? I'm afraid you must be confused with your number of exactly similar replies in a row. There are many many many popups here.

There are a few things to note about the popups. At the end of the day, the site has to pay for itself and the popups help supplement the funding of the site. Tom is constantly on the hunt for well-paid ads that will help reduce the need to get in ads like this.

"Spyware", as it's been put, should only affect you if you have agreed to install after clicking "yes" to the prompts. Otherwise, you have active-x problems (and those are your problems. Sort your browser out).

Those who complain about the advertising frequently are most often the people who also complain about site performance (whether it be the state of the database or the speed in which the submissions in the Portal load). Make your minds up - painfully slow site with little ads, or faster site, with several ads.

Comparing other websites like Yahoo with newgrounds is futile. Yahoo's main transfer through its searches are mainly text-based (low bandwidth consumption). Other services Yahoo offers are subject to restrictions (like bandwidth restrictions on personal websites) or charges for business websites. The personal websites and space all carry huge ads, and the business websites are charged, both of which contribute to the funding of the company. Yahoo are also capable of attracting a few very high-ranking, well-paying sponsors, thus alleviating the need to get several small advertisers on a regular basis.

I have found nowhere that discusses Yahoo's bandwidth consumption or official stats that they have released, so I can't comment fully or speculate too much on that (and neither should you if you're just plucking wild guesses), but I wouldn't expect the main search directory to be doing much more, if any more, data transfer than NG. And no-one can really speculate on the total data transfer on Newgrounds, because heavily-detailed stats have never really been run.

It's because NG is privately owned! I don't see any Newground stocks on the market. Yahoo is a billion dollar corporation. Newgrounds is a FREE site, Yahoo makes lots of money off things like EBay, Amazon, and advertising. If NG made half of what Yahoo makes a DAY, then they probably wouldn't need pop-ups either.

Oh, and your signature image is of poor quality, photoshop probably isn't for you.

I didn't make the sig. Tell that to MissenLinx.

Yours isn't exactly, "Godsent" either....

That's no excuse. Just because someone is not PC savvy, doesn't mean they should have the performance they payed for with their PC degraded by hostile programs.

Banners are fine, popups are fine, but active x installers really have no place on a website with as much of a following as NG..

And how many of those have you seen lately on NG? And if more than zero, on what pages?
