This reply goes to this specific quote and all who agree with it.
It's not necessarily about whether or not they'll have things to make episodes about, but whether or not it will still entertain the audience. You can only make fun of the news the same way for so long. Even if something new will always happen, their way of making fun of it will get stale eventually, if it already hasn't. They have to find new ways to entertain us or they'll lose ratings and be forced to do something else.
As an addendum to that, however, I doubt they will ever lose enough people to be forced off the air. Too many people, myself included, watch it as a ritual. Even though I don't laugh that often, I still catch episodes at least twice a week. It's just become a habit, I guess.
