Emo enough for ya? 2007-03-01 18:51:45 Reply

Hey. maybe some of you can help me out here. Lately, there has been a bunch of bullshit about "EMO". You see, there was a girl from my school that took a bunch or pills at school and had a seizure, she also cut a lot too. When she spoke to the administrators of the school she said she got the idea from a website about "Emo" and there was a points system. So many "Emo" points for doing this, so many "Emo" points for doing that...Anyways, she school blocks off all Emo sites in general or basically put a filter on the word Emo to be used in a web browser. Now I certainly know a thing or two about music genres and I listen to a lot of music that falls into Post-Emo Hardcore or stuff of that nature.

My personal definition or "Emo" (A.K.A. Emotional) is specifically only a genre or music. Music with deep feeling emotions or depressed melodies. That is where Emo originated, and then it turned over to a style or fashion. But since when did "Emo" music or even people who listen to it mean that you cut yourself and think suicidal thoughts?! There is so much negative energy focused against the music nowadays simply because kids and some adults even that are misguided by the meaning of the music or just plain suicidal people are labeled Emo when all they really should be called is: Stupid, Depressed, Suicidal, and plain ignorant! The stereotype has gotten used so much that people now think that its the truth. People listen! the truth is clearly that Emo IS the name of a musical genre and possibly a fashion now. In now way does listening to this kind of music make you an "EMO KID".

And a message for the people who consider themselves Emo, YOU ARE MAKING A BAD NAME FOR THE MUSIC. when they say in music that they want to slit their throat, thats only an example of how the singer is comparing his/her pain. for example, I saw my girlfriend cheating on me and now i want to slit my wrists till I'm dead: they are only comparing one thing to another. seeing your girlfriend cheat on you is like getting your wrists slit open. Doesn't mean, "Hey, you should go out and slash open your skin because this song makes you feel sad."

The main thing is, you so called "EMO KIDS" (a.k.a. suicidal misunderstanding morons) that go about the day saying stuff like that in the name of EMO are the cause of the problem because other people who don't really know about the music genre very much or just don't get it will blame the music for these people cutting.

I personally listen to Silverstein (Emocore, post-hardcore, screamo). They are a great band. But by me wearing a band shirt with their name on it, having black hair, and listening to them make me Emo if i dont cut myself or inflict damage of any kind on myself? Some kids in school call me Emo and i say to them, "sorry buddy, I'm Hardcore punk-rock" But that is besides the point.

I want to know what all of you consider to be Emo, because hey, I might be wrong after all.

The original term "Emo" meant simply emotinal. However people have twisted it into depressed music and such. My chemical romance is emo, yet they are hardly depreesed in their songs, they are very emotinal, but not depressed. As for the girl...she is an idiot. Dealing wiht your problems by bragging how much you hurt yourself is so mind boggling stupid. I love the Emo genre before these assholes screwed it up with cutting and whining....now anything namede Emo is doomed to bashment by others. Thats my 2 cents.

In response to this you and your EMO friends should become fundamentalist christians. I mean be total jerks about harass homosexual students, people that aren't as christian as you, generally be total a-holes. Then when someone gets fed-up and complains say you got it from a christian website that ranks how fundamentalist christian you are, and when christian websites get blocked then it'll cause an uproar and you'll get your website back. I go to a Catholic school they block everything.

Actually, Uhnoesanoob, My Chemical Romance is part of the Alternative Rock Genre, but I saw where you were going with that.

Funny you should say that because a lot of the "Emo" kids I know and including myself listen to UnderOath, As I Lay Dying, and Norma Jean...All of which are Christian rock bands.
